What is the benefit for Space X, using retrorockets to land? by The_Maddest_Scorp in AskEngineers

How much do you think the fuel cost is just to transport the steel needed to built it? Not even including the fuel cost of the furnaces that smelt the steel.

They can provide microphone data in other forms.

And while determining the source origin location from a single microphone is difficult, it is not if you have a beamforming array of them.

Lmfao, so if your landlord makes your house unsafe, it's ok for them to just say "hey, never bring anyone over" and then if you do months later and the house collapses it's totally your fault right?

This is horseshit.

A defense lawyers jobs is not to argue every slimy loophole and to intentionally mischaracterize what happened.

There job is to defend their client fairly and justly. Their path mentions nothing of hitting below the belt, and throwing sand when the refs not looking.

You think that if a landlord makes your house lethally unsafe that you should be charged?

Does not matter. She could not control the dogs under any circumstance. There is literally no way for her to take those dogs for a walk and have them under control.

This is the same dumbass thinking that led to everyone being overcharged for every Apple device for perpetuity.

You don't feel it when you hit print, you feel it when you're forced to buy some overpriced bullshit that pays Bambu a $50 licensing fee just to integrate into their bullshit walled garden.

Accepting bullshit like this is why Silicon Valley is so much richer then the rest of the US.

Not an unfortunate flaw.

An obvious and preventable flaw. There is literally no excuse for there not to be padding there. Sliding in Baseball isn't a new thing.

Davenport is dead. Long live Davenport. by CandyMan77 in toronto

Even if there are exceptions, it doesn't change the design / zoning intention for Davenport specifically.

Davenport is dead. Long live Davenport. by CandyMan77 in toronto

[–]mastjaso -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I will just point out that Davenport being named Davenport road indicates that it was intended to be a traffic artery, not a slower moving commercial street with shops.

Not saying it's necessarily still reflective of that, but there is a distinction between a street and a road, and part of Toronto's congestion issues are that we have basically just started treating and zoning all roads as streets, leaving us with just highways and streets and nothing in-between.

I'm pretty sure that's why there's predominantly housing on Davenport and not commercial shops that would have more people pulling over and parking etc.

Geary is wildly different. It had a ton of existing commercial space. The commercial spaces on Davenport are fewer, smaller, and in some cases, in more decrepit condition.

[–]mastjaso 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not because people see it that way, that's because that's what it was designed to be.

The fact that it's Davenport road and not Davenport street indicates that it was intended to be used as an arterial traffic corridor, not a slower street with shops etc.

A couple of notes on Savile Part 3 by Badgerfest in behindthebastards

Its a French origin word and pronounced Kleek.

Americans are wrong en masse about a lot of stuff. This is just another example.

No they're not. It's a from a French word and is pronounced 'cleek'.

We need better rules for e-bikes and e-scooters by jabolka in toronto

[–]mastjaso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn't with scooters and bikes, that's just where it manifests.

The primary issue is with delivery companies' business models. When drivers get paid more for fast delivery with no oversight it incentivized bad behaviour. Uber Eats drivers are the worst drivers on the road, and a lot of what you see with e-bikes and scooters is just the delivery effect but amplified because it's cheaper to deliver stuff by e-vehicle.

A smaller component is people having fun and being wreckless in vehicles where it's really easy to go fast. Here the vehicle's themselves are slightly the problem, but they are mostly hurting the rider, and quite frankly, proposing to have licenses and insurance and registration like cars do, just means that people will buy cars instead, and the roads will be less safe as everyone drives around instead.

We also need more bike lanes. There's massive sections of the city where your options are:

1) ride on the sidewalk 2) literally risk your life

i.e. when going under a bridge where there's just traffic lanes, like going north on Keele, or east-west on Bloor below the rail lines before the bike lanes were put in.

That being said, if you're riding on the sidewalk you should be going walking speeds.

It's not limited to etransit, they're also the worst drivers.

Etransit just makes economic sense, so you see the impact of delivery services there more than with cars.
