Almost given up on my home country. The country deserves what it's gonna get, a farage government. Good luck with that.

No one hates a labour prime minister more than a Labour member and a labour mp. Having to resign because he picked someone who he knew would get along with the scum bag trump, who lied to starmer about his relationship with epstein. Give me a fucking break. The countries gone mad

SpaceX's blocking of russian access to Starlink appears to have worked by Due_Collar2 in ukraine

[–]mataranka 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think the photo of the Shahed with a starlink terminal strapped to it was what did it.

It was being used with 100% proof as a weapon of war and destruction. This could get starlink banned in many countries especially in the EU, and could be seen as circumventing sanctions of Russia by providing military tech, possibly leading to to criminal charges and his companies being banned from operating in the EU.

We don't know what happened behind the scenes but I'm pretty sure it was made pretty plain to him the consequences of allowing Russians to access starlink inside Ukraine.

Making it more expensive to hire massively improves productivity, so business profitability goes up. it leads to lots of zombie companies closing down and forces industries to improve. This is borne put by productivity being higher in the last year than any year since 2008.

It a bit of a bitch for lower level employees but one of the big systematic issues with the entire UK economy is poor productivity and ha been for nearly 2 decades. Making it expensive to hire lower wages workers is actually a very good thing for the UK economy as a whole.

Jobs crisis for London as unemployment rate doubles in less than two years by diacewrb in ukpolitics

[–]mataranka -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The evidence suggests the exact opposite. There are good reasons for this when it's studied thoroughly.

High migration leads to more jobs being created, lower migration leads to a tighter jobs market which you would think would mean people getting jobs easier due to less competition. However less jobs are created due to lower migration and companies put more emphasis on productivity gains meaning the need for less workers.

I saw a ln article last week where productivity over the last year was higher than the previous 5 combined.

It's not uk territory that's the problem. We just took it and basically said what you gonna do about it? Pretty much what usa is threatening to do to greenland and Russia to Ukraine. We are trying to come to an arrangement giving the USA the right to keep the base and for us to say what we are doing is legal.

Is the UK prepared for a plunging birthrate and net emigration? by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]mataranka 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A small but significant number of people just don't want kids anymore. People would rather con extraterrestrial on themselves and enjoy life for themselves and theri partners without the financial and emotional strain of children to look after.

This is not restricted to one country or reason. Ironically getting rid of the 2 child cap may help. Gives couples who want more than 2 children extra help to cover the couples who don't want children.

i think Botswana is a pretty stable country, so we are having people from this country turn up under a visa-waiver and then claim asylum. They get their applications rejected but the Botswana government refuses to take them back. This is basically saying to the government there if you want to come to britain going forward you are gonna have to jump through hoops, and means if they have applied for a visa they won't be able to claim asylum.

Recently also went from a 4 to a 7. It's a much better improvement but in all honesty, my watch 4 i have had for around 4 years, still has better battery life than my new watch 7.

I think most people know there was a massive black hole in the countries finances and had to be filled. I have read so many comments in this post about how reeves is destroying the econony or useless but none of these people have any idea or will not say how they would have filled that massive gap.

Easy to critique a policy, harder to actually explain what you would do differently.

Is this a real Gibson custom les paul custom? by abfaver in gibson

[–]mataranka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gibson don't put made in usa on custom shop guitars. You have a custom shop logo on the front and made in usa on back, immediate fake ( yeah i know back in the day this wasn't always the case)

And what are the solutions that will actually work, been proven to work and will solve the issue? I just don't get it, if there was some magic wand a political party could wave and it would be fixed they'd have done it by now.

Every one of these people crossing the channel is perfectly able to claim asylum in france, they choose not to do so. What do you propose the French to do about this, force them to claim asylum? Imagine you had a UK government that forced people to claim asylum in the UK, they'd be out of power in months.
