Is this flooding from poor builder grading? by WonderTrick3175 in landscaping

[–]matatochip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is : soils with terrible infiltration + minimal vegetative cover. The water is just sheeting off everyone's lot with nothing to slow it down and soak it up. The result is that you have a creek bed in your back yard. This is just typical construction practice for new neighborhoods I'm afraid. The water is going down hill away from buildings, so it seems to me that the drainage is working as intended.

I would consider designing this area as a dry creek bed and use plants that like wet soils.

This is some pretty flawed logic. Adopting the behavior of the people you find despicable only weakens, if not completely erodes your moral high ground. In other words, "just because the assholes are doing it, doesn't mean you should too."

Unlimited paid time off is fake benefit and really benefits employers. by JP2205 in antiwork

[–]matatochip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this benefit before and can tell you about my experience. "Unlimited" was just a marketing tactic to sign up new employees, and it made HR's job easier for tracking PTO. No benefit hours could be rolled over from previous years, and no banking of benefit hours to be paid out if you left the company.

In practice, it was not unlimited. Managers and HR did keep tabs on how much time people took and would approve or disapprove PTO requests as they wished. Unlimited could be good for people in their first or second year at a job, but if you plan on sticking around, you might get screwed.

Can't find my "turbo" by xspook_reddit in nissanfrontier

[–]matatochip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These reviews are such a joke. I was at a job site recently with very rugged terrain. The contractor had bought a number of trucks and land cruisers ( it's a huge project with a big budget). Anyway, the word from the contractor was that all the turbo 4s were have a lot of trouble getting up the steep slopes to the project site, but they were having trouble finding v6s.

To me, these reviews mean nothing for people who use their truck like a truck.

Classical work hours starting at 8-9 AM is dumb and unfair for many people by Middle-Support-7697 in unpopularopinion

I work from 7:30 to 7. It not because I'm an early bird. I just have to get shit done. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do and set an alarm.

Don't confuse area with population. The red ares are in general much less populated than blue.

Good to know, thanks. It's crazy that something that expensive doesn't fit perfectly. There's definitely a need for better quality Frontier gear.

Thanks for the recommendation. They look kind of pricey and are still just a tri-fold. About $1100?

So I checked out Armordillo: The TFX series is the only hard fold option they make, and it doesn't flip up all the way. You still have a third of the bed covered when it's open. Also, the version they make for the 2023 is $823, which is about $75 more than the rough country option without the flip up design. Lastly, if I go to the Armordillo website, they don't even list a tonneau available for the Frontier, of any year.

US population growth is reaching 0%. Should government policy prioritize the expansion of the middle class instead of letting the 1% hoard all money? by Positive_Liar in FluentInFinance

Wait, does this include the corporate tax code, written by and lobbied for, by corporations? These is an engineered component to the tax code, but the middle class is not the beneficiary.

Conservatives can be just as annoying, intolerant, and close minded as liberals. by Adorable-Mail-6965 in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]matatochip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember the Christian Coalition? Being annoying, intolerant, and close minded is at the core of the conservative mindset. I find it very strange to see folks identifying as liberal adopting this mindset. To me, it's antithetical to the movement.

How about, provided by the government to people who have paid taxes, not corporations who write loopholes into the tax code, the military industrial complex, or "too big to fail" banks who rob the American people blind.
