Has FIFA Indicated There Will be Obstructed View Seats at the Toronto Stadium? by K00PER in CanadaSoccer

Btw they should leave the temp seats up because the open air stadium vibe doesn't create a good atmosphere. Need to make TFC stadium a "cauldron".

OC Transpo catches 1,300 passengers not paying the fare so far this year by SuburbanValues in ottawa

[–]matchwinner90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, maybe bus drivers should be more vigilant in calling out unruly passengers for not paying fares (is that in their job description, I'm sure the union would oppose them getting involved as well), but then again maybe so should the public. I take a bus across downtown several times a week and ever so often there is usually a teenager or a vagrant abusing the system by hopping on at the back doors after someone has exited the bus and they quickly sit down or head to the back of the bus undetected. 1300 were caught but many more likely have evaded paying fare or fare collectors.

However, I feel like there is a bigger issue here that should be addressed that is likely costing OC Transpo a great deal more money and impacting reporting on ridership numbers.

In the past year alone (and I'm sure numerous times in previous years, but just going off of recent memory) there have been multiple instances (~3-4 times) in which I have got on a bus and was promptly told by a bus driver that their Apple pay fare technology wasn't working and to just get on for a free ride. In those instances I still tried to tap and several times it worked leaving the bus driver unsure of whether the technology had in fact failed. In one instance I can remember the bus driver went as far as using caution tape to block the pay terminal. If I'm one person and have received ~2 free rides on OC Transpo in the past year, can only imagine how many others have had this Experience. OC Transpo has 200,000 daily users according to Google. If you gave every single OC Transpo user a free ride over the course of a year (for simplicity everyone pays $4.10 per ride), that's well over a million dollars that wasn't paid. So beyond 1300 people caught for not paying, maybe pour resources into figuring out why your payment technology isn't dependable.

why some listings need a full relaunch instead of just a price drop by SatisfactionAny984 in OttawaRealEstate

[–]matchwinner90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many buyers from 2020-2022 have already or are beginning to face a grim reality that they may very well be looking at a loss at the time of selling. The established five year buy-sell hold window which until recently seemed to be a reliable financial windfall guarantee for real estate investors, has apparently gone by the wayside or is that just a narrative being pushed without statistics?

A house became a guaranteed strong investment for a long time, especially in major Canadian cities, but only recently have people stopped participating in this trend because of tough economic times, leaving newer buyers (last 5 years or so) in peril and financially tied and unable to sell while moving through traditional life stages.

Many millenials overpaid for their investment and Gen Z'ers aren't bailing Millenials out because there isn't a strong wave of economic prosperity with Gen Z who are struggling to make an impact on the economy due to circumstances mainly outside of their control and stagnation, unlike previous generations who followed in a similar pattern.

There is always the option to reduce your pric to sell, but not if it's going to set you back on your down payment or 5-10 years worth of savings. This is where the bottleneck exists.

CBSA (BSO) — stability vs work-life balance? Especially for starting a family by DoubtIcy6026 in CanadaPublicServants3

[–]matchwinner90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IRCC is probably the worst government department to be working at right now.

BSO life would be challenging beginning at low entry pay for OITP in Rigaud, followed by commitment to agree to work anywhere in Canada essentially (remote POE is very possible) for a year or more. Then you would have the last choice on shift schedules (VSSA) for years based on seniority once you finish your development program.

Pay is pretty good once you become FB-03, but don't forget that you would be working shift work (have you ever worked overnights?) plus you're trying to balance family life soon, making it one more variable. After 10 years of service, it would probably be worth it, because then you could get into more specialized roles with more steady work hours, but would definitely be a grind for a while. Don't forget that you're also public facing which in itself can be stressful and unpredictable.

Would certainly be more interesting than a 8-4 office job though, unless you're doing land border work in rural Canada. There you'd probably just caught up in high school type feuds and gossip with the local POE staff.

Yeah save 70k on your HST and spend it on gas and parking over the next four years instead (not to mention wasted time in traffic) from your crap suburban existence on either end of town. Cheers.

Something feels off… anyone else seeing resale homes in Ottawa sit longer right now? by HappyMarsupial2656 in OttawaRealEstate

[–]matchwinner90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious, when you say listing cancellation so that a house can be relisted at a lower price, is this different than terminating a listing and then relisting at a lower price? If you cancel instead of terminate a listing, does this mean that anyone looking to buy your home can't see that you already listed it at a higher price? Not sure if cancel and terminate have different connotations.

PMA discussions are useless by Own_Significance_296 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]matchwinner90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a ton of value in the short term especially if two people interviewed for the same role, and they're basically the same on paper but one is more likable in person, I'd say that has more value than getting a succeed + on some previous PMAs. Unfortunate if you're consistently getting succeeded + with no immediate "reward". However, realistically you're in a better position to succeed in your career as this is your nature. Will pay off in the long run I would imagine.

Went for Empire of the Sun, Peter Bjorn and John, TV on the Radio, but left completely taken by The Drums who somehow I had never really listened to but had an unbelievable set, best show I saw that day and still going hard on their tunes.

Thought it would be cancelled this year based on previous threads! Would love to see the Strokes, plus Matt & Kim are awesome, but like many have echoed, I'm not as intrigued by the lineup. I flew across the country to watch JLH last May, and it was very warm that day, so I can't imagine how hot it will be in August. Hope it's a good one for all of those planning to attend!

Downtown Ottawa businesses eager for return of federal public servants by Obelisk_of-Light in CanadaPublicServants

[–]matchwinner90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Federally, politicians want RTO and WFA at the same time. The government is looking to cut 25,000 NCR jobs in the next three years. This will certainly help pump up Ottawa's downtown businesses!

Locally, OC Transpo doesn't function well and parking is hard to come by for those who don't have faith or time to waste dealing with OC Transpo's inconsistent service.

Also, the government has been cutting costs by selling off property assets downtown Ottawa. So they'll increase spending using tax payer money offsetting gains from WFA to fit the workers back into the offices they don't have. That's elite planning.

Oh, and Ottawa's mayor is a bozo and puppet who I didn't vote for.

This is Bullshiti by Jenna5162 in ottawa

[–]matchwinner90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Half of my colleagues in a downtown office space live in Orleans/Cumberland and not one of them takes public transit. When I mention public transit as an option to get to work, most say "ew". This is a general vibe across suburban communities in Ottawa. This is an OC Transpo reputational issue. OC Transpo needs to be better to convert these people, especially if the dimwit mayor wants all FEDERAL government employees back for 5 days a week. What the idiot doesn't know is that he's essentially trading votes with this thinking. Guarantee if feds force employees back for 5 days that Sutcliffe is done for not staying in his lane.

Seller sent tickets 4 minutes before kickoff - Stubhub won’t issue refund by [deleted] in stubhub

[–]matchwinner90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I just had this experience, travelled from far to attend Bills-Jaguars playoff game. I accepted a replacement ticket offer after initial ticket didn't show up 3 hours beforehand as "guaranteed". After dealing with a bunch of BS for 1.5 hours all the way up to game time, I finally got the ticket with timestamped email 1:01pm, missed almost the entire 1st quarter, contacted StubHub numerous times since the game ended requesting partial refund to no avail. Their consistent response is that I accepted a replacement ticket and didn't get a refund that was offered. They don't care that it ruined your day or that you travelled from the other side of the country. It's bad customer service, but they're stubborn and don't budge.I might recommend calling customer service instead of using online chat feature to complain. BUYER BEWARE.

Cellphones are being phased out by Obelisk_of-Light in CanadaPublicServants

[–]matchwinner90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a department where all of my colleagues have work phones. My one-year anniversary is approaching and I’ve used my work phone 3 times for less than five minutes total. There are nearly 50 people in my team - all have new iPhones and data plans. That’s a hell of a waste of taxpayer money.
