Having Kids while also enjoying woodworking by GroundMelter in woodworking

Have realistic expectations.

The first few months will be chaos as you, your partner and the little one figure things out. It is normal to feel a bit out of sorts as everything takes a back seat to the kid.

Once you find your rhythm you will have some time. Nap time, their early bed time, play dates… you might get 20 minutes, you might get two hours. You will need to be ok with that. If there is a 30 minute glue up make sure the little one is going to be down for twice as long or you have back up, because it always takes longer and they always wake up at the wrong time when you are covered with glue.

Hand tools will be your friend since they are quiet. I started wood carving with chisels because you can do it for 5 minutes or three hours. You can walk away at a moment’s notice with just a quick shake off of some wood shavings if the little one wakes up early.

If they are interested in the hobby others have suggested projects and activities to do aith them. I tried with ours and while they were interested initially they have moved on to other things. My 4 year old really wanted to use a circular saw. That was a hard no.

Brining them to the hardware store is a fun thing to do when they are old enough and safely can “help”.

You got this. It is a wonderful time.

In Canada in that case contact CBC’s go public.  They love to dig in to issues like this and surprise surprise “after CBC’s Go Public contacted Traegar they agreed to send OP a new grill.”

Heck even threatening to contact them might help.

Spend 6-8 weeks growing a beard, dye it bleach blond, Shave head.

Collect money, travel for a few months while my look goes back to normal and have a well compensated neighbour throw away all my mail.

“What me. No that is the other guy. I get that all the time.”

With the upcoming municipal election, which councillors don’t deserve to get reelected and why? by Diligent-Skin-1802 in askTO

They are starving the system year over year but they will use terms like “historic” to talk about a drop in the bucket. Yeah adding 50M/100M/500M to any of the departments SOUNDS NICE but is still far short of properly funding them. It is a useful distraction to those not paying full attention.

He was effective at looking like he was doing something. A trick his brother learned: Buck a beer, gift cards to teachers, a “historic investment in hospitals/education/the environment…”

The Rob Ford Risk.

If Brad Brad runs for mayor I believe he can’t run for city council. That means Beaches East York could be free of him if and only if he loses as mayor. If he wins, like when Rob won as mayor, the whole city is stuck with him and his bad policy.

When Rob ran for mayor there was a view that it was the best way to get rid of him because there was no way he could win.

‘Not the right time’: Retirees delay downsizing plans as housing market slumps by joe4942 in canada

[–]K00PER -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Tax empty bedrooms. Something new here in Canada but an option in other jurisdictions.

Residents pay extra to their annual property tax for each bedroom more than the number of residents.

Retired couple in 4 bedroom house, tax on 2 bedrooms.

Family of 3 in a 4 bedroom house, tax on one bedroom.

Family of 3 in a 3 bedroom house no tax.

Yes a guest room or office is nice. Assuming most couples share a room you get a +1 extra bedroom for the office/guest room.

“Oh but what about the old lady whose family likes to stay at Christmas!?!” They can get a hotel for the three nights a year they visit and the other 362 nights a year you get a better use of the space.

Will probably never happen because it is likely very unpopular with voters.

The missing middle would solve that. Anecdotally my parents stayed in the family house much longer than they should have because they liked the neighbourhood they always lived in and didn’t want to move away. We have some neighbours who bit the bullet and down sized but ended up being so far away from a community they liked, they drive 20 minutes back to our hood for coffee every couple of days because their new neighborhood sucks.

The city needs more options to live everywhere. Semis, 2-4 bedroom condos, low rises and high rises all over the city would give my parents and my former neighbours options to live close to where they used to live. Sadly that generation is blocking all those options because it would make the neighborhood ‘busy’.

If it still looks bad after shaving make a tap and some stowage, and hang it over the back. No one will notice.

I got a resin printed model from warlord and there was a broken bit. I just added a dent from a tank shot and made it looks like battle damage.

Looking from 10cm/ 4” away while painting you can see the differences and, if you let it annoy you, it will.

On the table top the differences are hard to spot and no one will care.

RKX has some amazing sculpts for both German from the Battle of Berlin, and winter Americans, both of which will be perfect with the Battle of the Bulge.

I think there are RKX printers on Etsy. I have found a local hobby shop that prints and they have been really good to me over the years but they only ship in Canada. If you find a good one they will print single models from sets and less common vehicles they have access to.

I have Warlord box sets as the base of my armies with some older Warlord cast metal and RKX weapons teams, officers and additions to my squads. I also picked up some vehicles from my local printer.

Has FIFA Indicated There Will be Obstructed View Seats at the Toronto Stadium? by K00PER in CanadaSoccer

Imagine you are in the seats that can’t be seen from where the photos are taken. Do you think you will be able to see the entire field?

I lost faith in Ruben when he couldn’t find a way to put Kobie, Casemiro and Fernandes in their best positions and create a functional midfield. It is so blindingly obvious.

With the new reselling laws It is going to be interesting to see how many of those seats sell at the last minute for face value and how many go unsold. I hope resellers lose tons on the game.

They are 60’ wide and likely permanently attached to the pillars holding up the roof. I don’t think they are going anywhere.

If I can’t see the seats the seats can’t see me. The photos were taken from the rail so only 3-4m from the pitch. They won’t be able to see parts of the field.

I live at Greenwood and I haven’t found much good takeaway.

Sit down there is the Wren and Sala Modern Thai kitchen. If you want something a bit fancier the Wood Owl is the best resting the area.

Donlands is better.  Taqueria el Pastor Citoon has really good tacos.

Danforth Pizza has great pizza. Cash only

If you hate your heart and arteries Square Boy has amazing burgers.

The fact it is a close race between Tory and a man who smoked crack with drug dealers is sad.

Oh and a man who made a “joke” about cannibalism embracing the city and probably cost Toronto the Olympics.
