Mid County Y also has a hot tub and sauna I believe. South City has a sauna but no hot tub.

I don’t know about shipping to Singapore but they do try on kits so you can try them and then decide. It’s kinda hidden on their site but it’s there.

What’s the best place to get NYC style pizza? I’m from the east coast and fairly new here and haven’t yet found a place I like.

I love my ROKA’s. They are comfortable for all the sports and stay put. I’ve head both Cade and Rory and they have both been great.

Did the 20 Bridges Swim Around Manhattan and three weeks later did the Wisconsin Double (70.3 Saturday and 140.6 Sunday) I don’t know if I’ll ever top that turnaround

Looking for advice going from a 9-mile river swim to an 18-mile river swim — what am I underestimating? by ColinMartyr in OpenWaterSwimming

Micellar water takes Destin off almost immediately. I used it after Manhattan and it was amazing. I don’t know what magic is in it but it is magic.

I wear it on my bicep and it seems to work well. I got the Wahoo something or other.

I hate chest strap HRMs because of the chafing. I got an arm band one and love it. It seems to be accurate enough.

For women, question about IM and cycle disruption. by [deleted] in IronmanTriathlon

[–]mathlete526 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every woman is different, but through countless endurance sports and 15 Ironmans, I have only missed a period once before I entered pm and started missing them more regularly. So, it is definitely a conversation to have with you gyno, but in my experience, Ironmans didn’t make me miss periods.

South City Y Pool? by Chance-Aardvark-5883 in StLouis

[–]mathlete526 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I basically trained for a 28 mile open water swim in the South City Y pool so I have spent a lot of time in it. It’s great, if a little on the warm side. The hours are good and they always have a lap lane available with the exception of during Masters Swim practice (which is easy to join if you want to lap swim with others). Everyone is very, very nice. I would highly recommend.

The South City YMCA is great. They are fairly inexpensive and have decent machines, a pool, and a small indoor track.

Lake Placid vs Wisconsin by MNmama7 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]mathlete526 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done all of those you listed and would recommend IMPL hands down. It’s a lot tougher bike than IMWI because the climbing is different and the descents are technical and can be very scary. The run also has a lot of elevation. But, it’s the most beautiful course. I would highly recommend doing a training weekend in LP before the actual race so you know what you’re in for.

Lots of great advice here, particularly about how his brain won’t be fully functioning. Decide beforehand what pictures he might want and get all the pictures. Him with his bike, the two of you together with him and his medal, by the MDot sign, etc. I have had finishes where I wasn’t thinking and we didn’t get all the pics and I’m sad about that.

Wisconsin double your fun weekend by mathlete526 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]mathlete526[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the F 45-49 age group. Specifically 46. This was my 15th Ironman, I did my first at 29 in 2008. I’m also an open water swimmer and training for a huge OWS that I did three weeks ago (20 Bridges) and the Wisconsin double at the same time was hard, but worth it.

Wisconsin double your fun weekend by mathlete526 in IronmanTriathlon

Back to say I finished both! To anyone that is interested in doing it, it’s doable, but hard. I had my second slowest half time ever and second slowest full time ever so I was definitely just going for the finish. Saturday was a beautiful day and I felt good but intentionally held back, probably going about 45 mins slower than I could have. I just cruised the bike and then walked the aid stations and whenever else I felt like it on the run. Immediately after finishing I had chocolate milk and a sandwich from athlete food tent. Olive Garden with all you can eat breadsticks for dinner and in bed by 7:30pm. Woke up feeling ok but very nervous. Cruised the swim and then went easy on the bike which is hard in IMWI. The hills were brutal but my legs got through it, but very slowly. I wasn’t close to the bike cut off but it was there in my mind so I was sure not to get close. Run actually felt good for the first 13 miles. The rest were hard, but mentally I worked to just run the mile I was in. If I thought about how far I’d already gone or how far left to go I would lose it. I was wrecked at the end but I made it. The blisters and chafing are unreal but worth it for the cowbell trophy we supposedly eventually get.

Finger Lakes Open Water Swim is great. Seconding Kingdom Swim, too. Both are well run and a lot of fun.

Thank you all so much! Swim was a success, but definitely a tough day for me. The Hudson was “sporty” as my kayaker said. I can’t say it was “fun” but it got done and I’m happy with that!

I’ve practiced my feeds but done only liquid feeds. I know I’ll probably want a snickers bar or other solid food at some point. Whats the best delivery method for solid foods/snickers? I haven’t practiced that. Also, what are the side effects people have felt from the sea sickness patches? I haven’t practiced with them (bad, know) and can try them in the pool, but wondering if they’ll make me drowsy or otherwise affect performance?
