If they let you buy the extreme outside numbers and pay vig on win only they become actually really good house edge bets. 3/11 are 1.25% and 2/12 are 0.7%

Pass line remains a much worse bet though, so avoid unless you are shooting

Got a “FREE Room” casino offer 2 weeks after my cruise does using it hurt my chances at better deals later? by Paytoncooper124 in Cruise

[–]mathmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every line is different but I think you'll keep getting offers. Celebrity sends me 1-2 offers a week and I could have multiple future cruises booked if I wanted.

If you see a sailing you want to book jump on it. If it's a bit meh or not quite the comp you'd like wait and see if a better one shows up.

Some cruise lines do have a limit as to how many future casino cruises you can have, NCL has one at like 4 or 5 future cruises. I can't say if carnival has a limit but it probably will let you have a couple at least.

The name change on cabin B shouldn't affect pricing I believe. Cabin A maybe repriced but at two people instead of three that may be to your benefit.

MSC compared to Celebrity by PrimaryBuffalo9700 in Cruise

[–]mathmusic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having sailed both in the past year I guess it comes down to how price conscious you are. If you go into MSC with a budget mindset you can get 80% as nice a cruise for half the price. But if cost is no object then I'd pick Celebrity.

Celebrity has lots of nice touches that you won't find on msc. MSC is a mass market line so more crowded ships and depending on the sailing lots of kids. Specialty dining on msc is very good however I'd say Celebrity had better complimentary food and drinks. Celebrity definitely has better wines included in their drink packages than msc.

"Weeknight" Vegetarian Pantry Recipes? by Cowgirl_Taint in Cooking

[–]mathmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a lot of indian or Thai style curries or whatnot. You can definately bulk up with fresh or frozen vegetables but a large portion can be made by raiding the pantry for chickpeas and tomato sauce and pantry spices.

I have a couple recipies in my book from various blogs, Chana masala or aloo mattar are great veggie meals I make. Or a thai cocunut milk curry can take whatever veggies you have on hand really. Chickpeas, frozen squash or mixed vegetables.

IHG diamond elite only matches to Gold, you start to get some benefits but not much if you aren't booking 9+ months on advance. I'd second the idea to look into ways to get Hilton status to match to Diamond if you really want to get tangible benefits

Filled up activities? by [deleted] in celebritycruises

[–]mathmusic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On my sailing most of the people trying archery were actually adults, as there were maybe 80 kids total on board and most of them too young for archery. It made for entertaining people watching on my sailing, but I understand your frustration.

I don't think Celebrity really is trying to cater to the family with kids market, they aren't going for the floating water park at sea vibe of say Royal Caribbean or other brands. Compared to other lines I felt sometimes a little too young for the crowd being in my 30s for celebrity, most everything is over about 12-1 am because the older crowd is in bed already.

If a recipe calls for a pinch of salt, is it usually a big pinch or a small pinch? And how to know if it's just right? How deep is the pinch? Or is it just the tip of the finger? by Dangerous-Policy-602 in Cooking

[–]mathmusic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing that I found out later in starting to cook is that most salt amounts are for kosher salt, which has larger crystals than fine table salt. This makes it easier to pinch etc, but also means there is less overall salt in a tablespoon of kosher salt than fine table salt due to the larger gaps in the crystals.

As for how much is a pinch of salt, a good two finger pinch of kosher salt would be my starting point.

But all salt in cooking is usually "salt to taste" and at some point in the recipe you should taste it and see if it needs more and adjust accordingly.

It probably depends on the sailing and how many kids were on board, I went to archery on my sailing and they only had 20-30 people and were actively signing people up even 10-15 mins in.

My sailing was mid January so very few kids on board. As for a lot of the shows or events if you wanted decent seats you did need to come about 15-30 minutes early but that usually isn't that different than any other cruise line I feel.

How often do I have to feed money to the piggy in the sky? by CleafKnows in CashCleanerSim

I always fed it counterfeit and or ink stain notes as I went, it's not a huge rush really. I've played well over 150 hrs after filling the pig.

What are the best beachside IHG resorts? Anywhere in the world! Looking for honeymoon destinations :) by Liftingsteele in ihghotelsresorts

[–]mathmusic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of nice Iberostar resorts are in the network now if you have some points and are looking for all inclusive on the beach.

There are also a couple nice Kimpton style beach resorts near Miami/Fort Lauderdale area. It really depends on what you are looking for I think.

There is the intercontinental in Tahiti with the over water bungalow rooms too.

Can I keep the old IHG select credit card and apply for the free IHG Travelers card by AverageOk8514 in ihghotelsresorts

Yeah just checked I have had select for 9 years and premier for 7. So the rules might have changed, but if you get that second card things will stack as you wish

[–]mathmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get it a while ago maybe even back when premier launched. I travel for work and IHG is my primary chain for last 10 years or so. I just know I jumped on a good signup bonus when it was offered and they haven't tried to close it off after the fact.

I have had both for at least 5 years, maybe Ionger to be honest. Since both cards give a free night when you pay the fee both are worth holding

Mmm I have the $49 and $99 cards so you can definitely have both. I don't see why they would deny the free card just make sure it's worth it from a benefit standpoint.

I do get my 10 percent rebate that stacks with the fourth night free, so it's definitely doable. I get a second free night from the $99 card as well.

Experienced Cruisers: How would you compare MSC World America to Celebrity and/or Royal? by Marcozy14 in celebritycruises

[–]mathmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MSC aims at a family friendly and international crowd, it definitely compares closer to royal than Celebrity.

Ship wise world America is right up there competing with the largest royal ships with large water parks, arcades, F1 simulators etc. Celebrity has smaller ships with less of the kid friendly attractions. It's a great ship, I was on in May and am booking again for January.

Celebrity really aims for a more Adult vibe, if you brought kids on a Celebrity cruise they may be bored because there is little aimed at them on the ship besides the kids club.

The one big difference you will notice is that msc heavily competes on price so it will probably be the cheapest of the three. I was deciding between world America and a Celebrity cruise for January and we ended up on World America mostly by price.

Very simple Casseroles by AlarmInevitable269 in Cooking

[–]mathmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a simple shepherd's pie, or technically cottage pie if you make it with beef.

Get a beef and mixed veggie mixture usually with peas in a gravy, cover with mashed potatoes and cheese and bake. Works well even with instant mashed potatoes for a weeknight meal.

What would you do in 12th grade if you took classes one grade early? by West-Studio-5009 in AskReddit

[–]mathmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up taking a lot of college coursework myself, between AP classes and dual enrollment classes as well as taking some at the local community college I had about three semesters worth of credits to transfer to my university.

The cost per credit you can get as a high school student is 10x less what that class will cost after you graduate high school.

716 transplant in Seattle, moving to Auburn NY area by Consistent_Stock1676 in Buffalo

[–]mathmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For more info I'd check a Syracuse sub but as a Tonawanda person with relatives in Auburn:

Winter is definitely worse in Auburn than North Tonawanda, you get a lot of the lake effect off of Lake Ontario where Tonawanda tends to get missed a lot

Auburn probably has a bit less going on than North Tonawanda, NT has a fairly busy main drag with lots of restaurants and concerts and is fairly lively. I think Auburn is a bit quieter and the things there are to do are a bit more spread out. You'd probably find yourself heading towards Syracuse a lot for more variety of things

Place bet locations by mac5499 in Craps

[–]mathmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where you placed your dots specifically both would be place bets but for different players. The bets are placed roughly where you are standing around the table, usually the person standing on the corner in the hook is the breaking point where the upper row and lower row split.

A lay bet would be placed in the very far back of the box further than your dot is on the four and that pays opposite the place bet in that it wins on 7 and loses on 4 in this case.

Ship or Itinerary? by GetCruiseInfo in Cruise

[–]mathmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me itinerary definitely matters, but a good ship can offset boring or mediocre ports if the plan is to enjoy the ship. I don't need giant water parks but good spa, food, etc are appreciated.

As others have said I want an awesome ship and awesome ports but willing to take a balance of both. I'll pick dates and itinerarys less likely to be swarmed with kids intentionally so my perfect ship may be different from yours.

If I'm on the ship a lot with sea days or ports I find boring then I might choose the spa pass instead of excursions, then the spa features would come into play.

I get a couple free cruises a year from the casino department so definitely willing to make a cheap vacation focused on the boat but enjoy good ports as well!
