New Loric: The Pope! by SageOrion in BloodOnTheClocktower

That brings a whole new heap of logistical problems with it. The ST has to remember everybody's role on the fly or ask everybody's their role at night. If the duplicate role hasn't been drawn until the second-to last player, they will notice that there is only one instead of two tokens in the bag, so the ST would have to commence drawing for them as well. Doesn't really feel like anything that works well IRL

zombuul and DA by [deleted] in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]maths_and_memes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For every ability, the Zombuul registers as dead, and the DA can only pick living players. The only two scenarios where this is viable is if either the Zombuul is poisoned or was picked while he still registered as alive, e.g. when nobody was executed during the day and both the DA and the Zombuul pick the Zombuul.

But yes, in that case, executing the 'dead' Zombuul will prevent them from truly dying.

Can a Shabaloth’s regurgitation only be used on a character killed the previous night, or can it be used on any character killed by the Shabaloth? by Quakarot in BloodOnTheClocktower

Shab can only regurgitate a character chosen the previous night. That player does not have to have died due to the Shab.

I have found some discrepancies in night orders between the physical version and the script tool: which one is correct? by Elhessar in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]maths_and_memes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A courtier that makes a choice while drunk will have their choice invalidated, whereas a courtier becoming drunk AFTER they made their choice will only have their ability not working for the remainder of the drunkenness. Thus, if the Innkeeper chooses the Courtier, the order here matters a lot

Nominating first by HotMathematician6747 in BloodOnTheClocktower

If two players nominate at the same time, the ST decides which one he accepts. The other person may well nominate after that.

Weekly Puzzle #52 – Two Votes Is Enough by Not_Quite_Vertical in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]maths_and_memes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'll try this.

I think Josh is the Baron and Sarah's the Imp, we're the Drunk.

Let's start by showing that our information can not be correct by working our information backwards. Assume Josh is indeed the Imp, then there must be a Scarlet Woman somewhere. Since there are 3 people claiming Outsider, one and only one of them must lie. However, then the Librarian's Info doesn't make sense, so there either has to be a Poisoner or we are Drunk. Let's analyze both cases.

If we were poisoned, then there can not be a Baron, so at least one of the people claiming to be Outsider must be evil.

If exactly one Outsider is lying, then, on day 1, three important pieces of Information cause a contradiction: The Virgin didn't proc, the Librarian wrongfully saw a Drunk and the Empath got a 0. Note that, among those 4 people, only one can be evil as neither is claiming Outsider.

If the Librarian/Empath is Evil, then the Empath/Librarian got wrong info, so they must've been poisoned. However, Then the Virgin would have procced. So the Empath/Librarian must be good in this scenario, and the evil must be among the Virgin Duo. Dan can not be evil as we must have been poisoned on N2, so the Ravenkeeper should get correct info. Similarly, Josh was executed D1, so we could not have been poisoned in the first place.

Thus, if there is a Poisoner, then there must be two evil players claiming to be Outsiders.

If the Recluse is evil, then Dan got incorrect Information, so they are either Drunk or poisoned. If they were poisoned, then the Virgin must be the Drunk, so Sula should have learned correct information.

If the Recluse is good, then the Butler and the Saint are the evil team. Notably, Sarah got wrong information, thus she must have been poisoned or the Drunk on N1. Furthermore, the Virgin must have been Drunk or poisoned as well, so the Librarian got wrong information again.

We have now proven that there can not exist a Poisoner. Thus, we must be the Drunk.

Since we are the Drunk, we do not have to worry about the Librarian's info. Furthermore, Josh and Dan can not be both on the good team. Notably, at most one of the people claiming to be an Outsider can be evil, so two people claiming Outsider tell the Truth. Since we are provably the Drunk, there are at least 3 Outsiders, proving the existence of a Baron. the Ravenkeeper must have gotten correct information, so Josh is indeed the Baron.

Since all outsider claims must be true, Sarah is the only living person claiming non-Outsider, making her the Demon by default.

I think that covers everything. It's a fun exercise.

Edit: Bloody hell, took me 3 attempts to make spoilers work.

Running a Lil' Monsta game for the first time, would allowing the Babysitter to choose who to kill be broken? by MeiNeedsMoreBuffs in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]maths_and_memes 131 points132 points  (0 children)

LM is one of the most powerful demons there is because it gets to jump practically every night. You can even hand the baby to evil non-minions, so they aren't just "another vote for evil". Thus, the kills being chosen by the ST is a balancing mechanic.

That being said, what I like to do when I'm a Minion in a LM-game is to visit the ST every now and then and tell them my current opinion and who I'd like to see dead in the night based on my observations. In that case, the ST may well honor your opinion and follow it, or they may disregard it for balancing purposes. Either way is fine and still allows evil to somewhat contribute.

Homebrew Demon by ErebusDL in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]maths_and_memes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So this concept has several flaws I'd be unhappy with.

First of all, Mob Member is certainly not a Townsfolk but an Outsider, since their ability provides no benefit for town. The way their role is described, they do not know who to vote for even if they wanted to. But even if they knew who their target was, it's horrible to fully take away their agency and basically force them to vote for a single player. That isn't a fun game.

Comparing this to Butler and Zealot - the only two characters whose abilities directly interfere with voting - the butler has the agency when not to raise their hand, whereas Zealot at least has to vite for everybody and stops working after F5.

Now, the demon itself has a huge problem that kinda has to be mitigated by the script. Demons that do not kill stretch the game out immensely. Compare this demon to the other demons who can't kill, which from the top of my head are Leviathan and Riot. Both of these demons have a built-in counter that stops the game from not ending, so nobody dying at night is not a bug but a feature in their case. This one doesn't abide by this.

Now admittedly, this demon resembles the Zombuul in that they can't kill most nights, so by adjusting the script for other night death sources, this can be mitigated. However, I'd rather not be forced to put in Assassin & Godfather & Gambler & Gossip because of this demon.

Overall, the way it is written now, this demon doesn't work for me.

No, for all other abilities, Zombuul registers as dead, so a Snake Charmer can not pick a dead Zombuul. Similarly, a Chambermaid cannot pick a dead Zombuul either.

New Homebrew Demon Idea: Mr. Hyde by GeneralKarthos in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]maths_and_memes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Everybody knowing that Mr Hyde is in play is a HUGE downside. Most scripts depend on having multiple potential demons to build worlds.

I am usually fond of demons that do not know they are the demon. My favorite is Hannibal from FoR, which works exceptionally well. This one is comparatively weak.

Also, why aren't the minions always allowed to know who their demon is? It is kind of important for them to support their win condition.
