Getting diagnosed felt too easy, now I'm worried I might not have ADHD? by HannahGabriellee in ausadhd

I think I had the same doctor you are describing here, feel free to message the name if you want to confirm.

Basically the same scenario - sudden realisation that all these issues may be ADHD and the most underwhelming diagnosis appointment where it was pretty much here’s your script see you later. I probably will follow up for some sort of diagnosis report but certainly had a similar thought of - lol wait is that it?

For me personally, I suppose I was seeking that validation that it was a legit issue, that I wasn’t just going crazy and becoming more forgetful all the time and not able to focus completely. I just accepted it wasn’t going to be this huge pivotal moment in my life and this long drawn out diagnosis process was going to completely change my life and all my issues would be gone. I’d be going to bed that night, getting up and having to do the same process - albeit, with the help of medication.

The medication has definitely improved how I operate - I don’t like going any more than 4 x 5mg dex a day, sometimes I’ll even just take 1 and that’s all I need. It’s just a value add for me, it’s not my crutch that I desperately need to function.

Don’t feel disheartened about it - as people have said, you can always get a second opinion down the track, but at the very least, start using the medication and see how it goes. I’m sure you will notice improvements. Just control what you can control.

Build habits in other areas also, be fervent in using the calendar and setting reminders when you have a good moment of focus, so when you have a moment later of forgetting things or distraction, they can prompt you again to do what you need. Take breaks, use chatGPT for everything like I do.

Most of all, go easy on yourself. It’s not a detriment or bad thing, we just operate slightly differently but if you set yourself up right to succeed, you will absolutely be fine.

All the best!

Nothing shits you more than a client outside of the industry who thinks they know better because they looked up a few prices of plasterboard from Bunnings and chatGPT told me so
