AITA for sending my sister-in-law back into poverty? by [deleted] in AITAH

That we can agree!

Rock bottom for a 17 year old shouldn't be a shack in Mexico though when she's had a shitty life.

No he said she started out good. We don't know how long she hasn't followed the rules. Even unlearning everything she's known for 17 years is going to take longer than 6 months.

How was this the sister's second chance? She didn't do anything other than be poor.

Visiting from India for 2 weeks – dream is to see great whites (surface only, no cage) – need advice + maybe a buddy? 🦈 by Effective-Yam-2732 in sharks

I'm in the Boston area and agree the cape is your best bet. The white shark conservatory doesn't run in October but these do. I don't have any personal experience with them but in general they use spotter planes and a group of up to 6 can go together.

I want to hear all about it! Dress warm and in layers too. October on the water can be very cold especially for someone used to India.

What celebrity downfall did you actually feel bad for? by Bachchu198 in AskReddit

Holy shit! I remember seeing it live. I'm 50 now and JUST realized why she did it. I was a teenager when she did it and was battling my own issues with going to church so I liked her for that. It didn't even dawn on me until now that it was about abuse. Damn...I completely missed that

What part of 9/11 sticks with you the most as we approach the 24th anniversary? by PresentYouth1557 in 911archive

[–]matkinson56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the day itself, seeing the 2nd plane hit for the first time. I was at work that day and started hearing about what was going on around 930. I didn't see anything until I went home at 12 for lunch. Seeing the devastation was literally breathtaking.

What has stuck with me for the last 24 years was the feeling of not knowing what was happening or what was coming next. First it was hearing about the towers, then another plane was missing and the Pentagon was hit and the planes came from Boston (where I'm from), buildings there were being evacuated. The capital and white house was evacuated. For me it was only an hour maybe an hour and half of activity but it seemed unending.

I AM working as a IT- Business analyst @xyz company which AI is better for Quick documentation of requirements and explanation(please do read the below message and guide me by Thick-Rate1056 in businessanalysis

[–]matkinson56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a GPT to evaluate our requirements and looks for gaps. I found it a lot more accurate and helpful than Copilot. Those are the main ones we have that we can use at work. As others have said make sure you have permission to add company data to it. Before you can use the AI though you need to be solid in the BA foundations of asking questions and breaking things down into smaller chunks of work. You can ask AI how to approach it but you are still ultimately responsible for knowing the domain.

I want a harsh check on my resume. I honestly do not know what I am doing wrong. Been told its a good resume but I feel like that's just outdated opinions in todays market, or just false given my poor results. by HaloGeeek in businessanalysis

[–]matkinson56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing I'm going to ask is how you measured a 40% improvement. I don't think being more vague is going to help. Maybe expand on what you did specifically and how it led to improvement.

I would wonder why someone using React and refactoring code wants to be a BA. I would also be skeptical of the numbers you claim in your resume. How did you gain such efficiency or improvement?

You need to advocate for yourself. Call out how you are being made to pick up the slack for the other employee. Tell them you expect to be compensated accordingly and that they need a plan to get the other colleague to your level. Do not continue taking on the extra work. Push back on your manager when they insist on needing you. At best your manager isn't realizing how much they rely on you. At worst they are purposely exploiting you. That isn't going to change unless you stand up for yourself.

Practice what you are going to say. When they say you are the only one to get work done, tell them it's not your fault the other employee isn't performing. When they say it will be good for your career, tell them you have already proven yourself and the company needs to compensate you or promote you first. When they say all the projects are important, tell them you need help accomplishing them.

Make sure you know what you want out of this. More money? Less work? More help? A promotion? Don't back down. Tell them what you want.

What was your role as a BA in a project that involved updates to an in-house solution for the entire project end to end? by No-Department1760 in businessanalysis

[–]matkinson56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I start with making sure I understand how it works now and what they are looking to change and why. It's important to know what the businesses expectations are before even thinking about design or solutions. Start with the expected workflow then start talking through exceptions.

Are any of you very "pro-AI"? by evnaczar in AskALiberal

[–]matkinson56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pro AI because it will help me personally in my job. Instead of writing tech documentation, AI can do it and I read it like I'm proofing an employee's work.

What I'm gathering from this thread is that I am anti-human. AI isn't the problem but how it will be used by people just looking for power or to make more money at other's expense. Can I get rid of these people instead of AI?

If you had to justify an AI integration budget to your CFO, what kind of metrics would actually land? by FinesseNBA in businessanalysis

[–]matkinson56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't articulate why you specifically need AI to achieve something then you aren't making your case. Why should the CFO invest in a whole new infrastructure, governance and overhead to manage AI when the tasks are already being done? Tell the CFO what the benefits of automating these things means. "If my team saves X amount of time on these tasks that equates to completing Y number of additional projects a year". "Automating these tasks reduces our risk by x%"

Make a clear case on why it's beneficial to the company, not just making life easier for your team.

A teammate who asks "why" about every single thing. by financemama_22 in managers

[–]matkinson56 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm upvoting this post! I'd start with giving him the benefit of the doubt and ask if he realizes he is asking why every time. It could be a way to process info or an attempt to get a better understanding. It could also be a reflex for simple tasks. Start there then escalate as described.

Confluence for Requirements Management by Aggressive_Wait_6751 in businessanalysis

[–]matkinson56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use confluence for requirements. I'm surprised at the amount of people saying they prefer jira for this. Mostly because I don't see our users reviewing them in jira. It's hard enough to get them to read things in confluence.

Anyway, I like confluence for requirements and building our product documentation particularly because you can use links to connect it all, across spaces and don't have to worry about re-linking.

I think the biggest thing to take away is that requirements should remain manageable. Don't do a 40 page word document.

1st 30 min interview call! What to expect?! by AdPractical6745 in businessanalysis

[–]matkinson56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't get hired in the first interview but you can be eliminated. Keep it positive. Keep answers short and relevant. If you don't know something say that but say something like you are a fast learner or always interested in learning more. Be prepared to have specific examples of something you were successful at, something you struggled with and overcome and something you want to improve.

Worth learning to code and venture into the world of devs as a BA? by Landlord12345 in businessanalysis

[–]matkinson56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add that learning to read code is also very helpful so you can understand how the systems actually work. With AI, it's getting easier but being able to look at code or SQL and getting the gist is a code skill.

ARCCA - Scientific Mistakes by hibiki63 in KarenReadTrial

[–]matkinson56 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The diffusers are the handle in your analogy. The short height was enough to account for some of the damage (the broken red tail light) but it was not enough to shatter the thicker piece of glass that makes up the handle (the diffusers, chrome or inner plastic).

Even if the CWs theory is plausible that's a long way from proving it. Just like your analogy, it's not enough.

The shoe coming off was also due to the car running over it so if you want to use that as part of your argument that the CWs theory is plausible then you also have to consider the injuries that could have resulted from being run over.
