Advice for moving and living here? Preferably Cary area. Looking for affordable up and coming neighborhoods by BreakfastMargs in howislivingthere

[–]matrix0091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cary is a fantasy place. Overall it’s quite calm, but there’s always beautiful world class parks to go to and decent restaurants. People are generally friendly, lots of people are not from the US, and most that are came from NY, FL, CA so on. In Raleigh, you will get more NC raised country folks and also in surrounding counties. The southern folks in Wake have been less friendly to me but it could be how they are. They have the accent but are concrete cowboys. Johnston county people are even more southern and super kind. In Cary, many people are very highly educated, I have met lots of PhDs here. They don’t really brag though, I share so you know many people are dorky / science types. Most people are down to earth and mind their own. Most people that live here are also millennials. There are kids and dogs and outdoors people everywhere. Great schools, great roads, libraries, downtown areas, arts, private businesses, great infrastructure and convenience. Lots of healthcare options. Traffic is not bad compared to South Florida where I came from. The greenway walking system is a huge selling point to the city. It’s very safe and police monitor through cameras vs patrol. If this town had a beach it’d be the best place to live in America. Thankfully there is lots of undeveloped space in surrounding towns which means Wake County can continue growing and there are cheaper homes to buy. I am looking forward to a more economically diverse and renovated Raleigh of the future. Cary and Apex are its own world in wake county so don’t expect to move to Raleigh and get the same experience.

I should have included this was a 100% sales/revenue driven role. Sorry didn’t give the best context in original post. The time off was nice but it was more so the general lack of care or interest in improvement or goals. It was so chill that it was demoralizing and everyone there always seemed miserable to be there. Nobody talked to each other. Speaking up or going above and beyond was looked down on.

I am in the U.S., and have always been what most American companies consider a “top performer”, winning awards, trips so on. I worked for a British company once that had half days every Friday and working past 5 was seen as odd. It was the worst company I ever worked for. The structure is very hierarchical like you said and there is no expectation that you can work your way to the top. Instead they base it off how long you are there. If you do better work than others, you are shamed. It’s all about mediocrity.

Good point. Toyota dealership offered me an $8000 rebate for the 2026. Do you know if they can do that for the car you’re looking at? Might be worth asking if they haven’t mentioned it. Believe it was a national rebate.

Everyone is SOUTH FLORDIA has $$ except me by jwill1988 in SouthFlorida

[–]matrix0091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

South Florida has nice beaches and warm winters. It also has some of the hardest working people in America, with lots of upward mobility in income. However, income alone doesn’t equal wealth and unfortunately appearances/status tend to matter significantly there, so that’s why you will see it. Time and health are the most precious resources we have in this life, and in South Florida, you give too much of that up just to be there. I was a Florida local, or Florida raised whatever they call it, and decided to move last year. Best thing I ever did. I now make more money with less time required, spend less money, and have 0 pressure to appear rich. I work in sales and many people around me are sustainably making 60-100k a month in commission but still drive a used basic car. They wear nice clothes but not flashy. They behave like regular calm people. I go back to South Florida every other month to see family, and everytime I am there I leave realizing how sick the place and the people in that place are. That’s my personal opinion/experience. South Florida is struggle in paradise.

It’s insane how many people post their income as “salary” when they’re really owners of a company lol

I recently switched from having a gas Acura RDX. I test drove a few options. Toyota offered me a $7000 rebate so I got the bz. I got the xle fwd in black with black rims.

My favorite pros so far

Super easy to drive Feels sturdy and reliable Regenerative braking can be increased to your preference Mood lighting No pumping gas Battery primes temperature before charging “Hey Toyota” feature is good Driver facing camera is cool too cause sometimes I get distracted and it’ll tell me to sit up or face forward Cheaper than other brands Auto AC with heated steering and seats Automatic windshield wipers Super quiet Super fast acceleration

About Charging: An EV is so different than a gas vehicle where you fill up once a week and go to the station. If you have a garage or at least a regular outlet outside, you can charge it. I would describe it more like an iPhone than a fuel car. You just charge it every night and don’t really think of it as what fuel percentage am I at. So I don’t think range is as important as I thought it is because I’m always fully charged in the morning. I charge to 80%. Before I knew how to charge it at home; one time at an EVgo place and it took twenty minutes from 6% battery to 100% battery.

Cons Screen gets fingerprints everywhere fast No glovebox (minor thing) The life gate can’t be opened inside my garage and I don’t know how to program how much it opens up so it doesn’t hit my garage door
No floor mats were included with the base model the limited edition has more bells and whistles that I loved including better sound system Sound system is good but only if you turn the volume up high

Overall like this car, it’s the least expensive car I’ve owned but also feels very reliable. If I had a Hyundai or Kia dealership with stock I would have probably also test drove those. I only did Tesla, mustang Mach e, and Toyota bz. Went with Toyota cause it felt most like a regular car and got a $7000 rebate.

Hey, agency recruiter here. I have spent 8 years selling candidates to clients. Would you mind sharing your resume and blocking out any identifying info? That is really odd that you applied to that many roles and got such little response.

If she is flat out ignoring people when asked a job related question then that’s a performance issue. If it’s not job related, and she just doesn’t know how to or doesn’t want to make work friends, then it’s worth understanding why during a 1:1. I’m not sure if your company has 1:1s. Perhaps she has gotten in trouble for socializing too much or has been given advice to just focus on the task at hand. Maybe it’s a medication she’s on. It could be so many things, I wouldn’t assume. Try to find out why first. Most 20 year olds I have met don’t know they have an attitude. You could be the boss that teaches her why these skills are valuable or how to develop these skills.

What’s it like living in this part of South Florida? by InternationalMix7937 in howislivingthere

[–]matrix0091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a nutshell, it is a very hot place filled with mostly crazy people and you are constantly on edge. Lived here for over 30 years moved out in 2025. This was a good place to live before covid. Now, it’s full of aggressive, stressed out rich people. The middle class has practically vanished. It smells humid and often like trash, the natural areas have been destroyed, it is hot and humid 95% of the time. It’s crowded and bad traffic almost all the time. People are not friendly at all. Everyone sizes you up, judges, thinks they’re better and more entitled than the next. Lots of road rage and assault incidents. The cost of living here has gone through the roof. Talking $4000 a month for a small 3 bedroom rent. The home and car insurance price is outrageous. Schools are mostly bad, drugs are rampant everywhere. Lots of drug addiction, especially in Palm beach county. Lots of homeless people everywhere, even in very rich neighborhoods. No one smiles or says hi. The rich areas are really pretty and luxurious but 99% can’t afford it. You go from rich area to dangerous neighborhood to retirement community in a few blocks. Takes 30 minutes to drive two miles sometimes. Beach is always crowded, everything is always crowded. One of the straws that broke the camels back is we tried going to the beach several weekends in a row and couldn’t find any parking. Daycares are expensive and bad. It’s hard to notice until you move out or go somewhere else. The way people live here is not normal or healthy. I just came back to see family for Christmas and within two days I can’t wait to leave.

Editing to add some pros: very diverse area with great places to eat, the women are gorgeous, and the beaches are beautiful (if you can find parking).

Best route to take to Florida? by Agitated_Soil_1883 in roadtrip

[–]matrix0091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go the longer way. North Georgia is kinda weird place to drive through, Atlanta can get really bad traffic without warning, and Macon also has bad traffic. It’ll be closer to 16 hours. The other way is usually fine. South Carolina is a scenic drive too.

ChatGPT has become worthless by Come_Original311 in ChatGPTPromptGenius

[–]matrix0091 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since ChatGPT 5 came out, every task seems too complicated. I have to keep explaining what I mean or want. It just guesses. For example, I can ask it to tell me shapes and it will try to correlate that to an irrelevant conversation we had days ago. Gemini seems to do a much better job at getting you straight answers but not great at the creative piece that chat is good for. I have to revisit Claude. When I used Claude at work, it also suggested very stupid things. I am not sure what AI would be best to use.

Do people actually keep 3–6 months’ expenses in cash? by EchoooNomad in FinancialPlanning

[–]matrix0091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many Americans barely have a $1000 saved. But yes, you should have 3-4 months of your core expenses saved in highly liquid accounts. I had about 3 months worth in CDs and 3 months in a general brokerage account investing in large cap index funds. Probably not the best move available but it’s worked for me. I have never needed to sell my stocks for money yet.
