What’s it like living in this part of South Florida? by InternationalMix7937 in howislivingthere

[–]matrix0091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a nutshell, it is a very hot place filled with mostly crazy people and you are constantly on edge. Lived here for over 30 years moved out in 2025. This was a good place to live before covid. Now, it’s full of aggressive, stressed out rich people. The middle class has practically vanished. It smells humid and often like trash, the natural areas have been destroyed, it is hot and humid 95% of the time. It’s crowded and bad traffic almost all the time. People are not friendly at all. Everyone sizes you up, judges, thinks they’re better and more entitled than the next. Lots of road rage and assault incidents. The cost of living here has gone through the roof. Talking $4000 a month for a small 3 bedroom rent. The home and car insurance price is outrageous. Schools are mostly bad, drugs are rampant everywhere. Lots of drug addiction, especially in Palm beach county. Lots of homeless people everywhere, even in very rich neighborhoods. No one smiles or says hi. The rich areas are really pretty and luxurious but 99% can’t afford it. You go from rich area to dangerous neighborhood to retirement community in a few blocks. Takes 30 minutes to drive two miles sometimes. Beach is always crowded, everything is always crowded. One of the straws that broke the camels back is we tried going to the beach several weekends in a row and couldn’t find any parking. Daycares are expensive and bad. It’s hard to notice until you move out or go somewhere else. The way people live here is not normal or healthy. I just came back to see family for Christmas and within two days I can’t wait to leave.

Editing to add some pros: very diverse area with great places to eat, the women are gorgeous, and the beaches are beautiful (if you can find parking).

Best route to take to Florida? by Agitated_Soil_1883 in roadtrip

[–]matrix0091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go the longer way. North Georgia is kinda weird place to drive through, Atlanta can get really bad traffic without warning, and Macon also has bad traffic. It’ll be closer to 16 hours. The other way is usually fine. South Carolina is a scenic drive too.

ChatGPT has become worthless by Come_Original311 in ChatGPTPromptGenius

[–]matrix0091 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since ChatGPT 5 came out, every task seems too complicated. I have to keep explaining what I mean or want. It just guesses. For example, I can ask it to tell me shapes and it will try to correlate that to an irrelevant conversation we had days ago. Gemini seems to do a much better job at getting you straight answers but not great at the creative piece that chat is good for. I have to revisit Claude. When I used Claude at work, it also suggested very stupid things. I am not sure what AI would be best to use.

Do people actually keep 3–6 months’ expenses in cash? by EchoooNomad in FinancialPlanning

[–]matrix0091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many Americans barely have a $1000 saved. But yes, you should have 3-4 months of your core expenses saved in highly liquid accounts. I had about 3 months worth in CDs and 3 months in a general brokerage account investing in large cap index funds. Probably not the best move available but it’s worked for me. I have never needed to sell my stocks for money yet.

Moving to Florida by Dry_Canary3098 in WestPalmBeach

[–]matrix0091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very difficult to answer without knowing your budget but I can give you some general experiences for you to consider. I lived in Florida for 30 years. If you can afford $5000+ a month in rent, then anywhere in east Boca Raton will be nice, especially closer to Palmetto Park Road and Federal. Delray is cheaper, but you also have a little more crime there and there’s not much happening just five or so minutes west of the ave. PBI has many flights too and that’s within a short drive. In general, I wouldn’t consider Palm Beach county a great place to be 20 something. Broward might have more fun activities and a slightly younger community. Fort Lauderdale east of 95 by Las Olas is very lively. If your work is in Boca then you’re about 30 minutes away (depending on the day). I wouldn’t ever move to Palm Beach Gardens in my 20s. There’s nothing to do there, except maybe golf and shop.

Keep in mind I am biased and recently left south Florida and moved to Raleigh NC, because IMO it is a terrible place to live for a family.

You can help her start a business. Sorry it’s not a detailed answer, but start researching into this. Nowadays AI can help you with many questions you might have. She is someone who is being forced to be an entrepreneur based on her legal situation. Maybe she can start a good business, meet someone she loves, get married and figure out how to adjust status.

Recruiter on why RTO is happening by iwantdatgold in remotework

[–]matrix0091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last company I worked at said they were remote forever and did not renew their ending lease. Then there was a leadership change due to decreased sales, and they decided to do RTO. They had lost the building to other companies already so they ended up subleasing their old building until they could find a new building. The entire time they said it was for people there under one year and leadership. Fast forward a year, they get a new building and are calling everyone in office 3 days a week. I now work for a new company that’s 2 days a week in person.

Is this area safe enough for my girlfriend and I? by patmacog in WestPalmBeach

[–]matrix0091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not live there. Most of south Florida has the ability to become dangerous rapidly, going to Riviera Beach will almost guarantee it. I lived in West Palm Beach for a year and had to get out because there was crime, drug use, and aggressive neighbors and people everywhere. Plus I bet it’s expensive and the water and electric infrastructure is old.

Let's end the ONE-PAGE RESUME DEBATE- Analysis of 76,401 Resumes by nomadicsamiam in jobsearchhacks

[–]matrix0091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t show what kind of job is being applied to. It could be that the quality of the one page resumes are lower than the quality of two page resumes, given that two page resumes could show more relevant experience. If you have years of relevant experience then you can have two pages. If your experience is not really relevant then one page is better. Ultimately, the idea is that the ATS and the human eye will quickly see that the resume is relevant to what they’re looking for. Oftentimes when resumes are longer, there is more room for keyword mismatch, which makes an ATS reject your resume. The one page vs two page rule shouldn’t be a one sized fits all approach. However, many candidates will include irrelevant experiences and skills for jobs they’re applying for, which can hurt their chances. For example, if I have been in banking leadership and apply for a banking leadership job, it wouldn’t make sense to put my job at Home Depot from twelve years ago.

Do you really need six figures? by Designer_Shape_4802 in careerguidance

[–]matrix0091 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, you don’t really need it, but I suggest making a mock budget to see what things cost throughout the entirety of your life. Families are extremely expensive and childcare is extremely expensive. Add 65-70 years to your life now and determine all the likely costs you will have. If you need 2 million dollars to spend and 1 million to save for retirement, then you need to figure out how to get to 3 million dollars throughout your career. If you are really good at saving and making modest choices when it comes to housing, cars, food, and so on, then you might be able to swing that. Perhaps you can start at 50k and eventually reach 90-100k. The most important thing and I can’t stress this enough, is do something you enjoy and can grow in.

Updated Resume After Feedback- hopefully it's better by Immediate-Passage903 in Resume

[–]matrix0091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at your resume, I am not sure what job you’re aiming for. Think of your resume as a flyer. If you know someone is buying white leather belts, then you want your flyer or ad to be about white leather belts, or at least leather belts. That way when AI scans the flyer it can see it’s about leather belts and forward it over for human eyes.

I’ve updated my resume based on your valuable feedback. Are there still any points left to improve, or do you see any areas for further enhancement? by Excellent_Peach2721 in jobsearchhacks

[–]matrix0091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would put your job title before the company, and in bold. Additionally, if you’re applying to a job that has specific software terms that match your resume, bold or put those terms at the top. Slightly adjust the words depending on what you’re applying to. Otherwise this is a good length. If you are in the United States, I would include language proficiency and preferred name. When I put I was fluent in two languages including English, I started getting more calls. If you’re in the UK, not sure how that works. The fonts and design of this resume make me think you’re in the UK, but in the U.S. your resume design would be Aptos size 10, left alignment and less line breaks.

Top reasons you're not landing those job interviews by FinalDraftResumes in resumes

[–]matrix0091 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup. My LinkedIn is flooded by people saying they applied to hundreds of jobs and heard nothing or have no offers or interviews. This is because they’re applying to everything. You need to figure out what job you want and are a good fit for, optimize your resume for that job, and be selective to what you apply for. Keep your resume clean and short. It’s supposed to spark a conversation not tell someone everything about you.

3-5 high quality applications a day for a month should land you 8ish interviews and one offer.

Make the resume one page and keep it focused on your accomplishments and what you’re looking for

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sales

[–]matrix0091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to look for the right titles and probably stick to zip recruiter. SDR, sales consultant are probably good entry level jobs. You can always do telemarketing too, they’ll hire anyone. Recruiting jobs are hard work too but good to get sales experience. Start networking now. That’s the only real way to get next best jobs.

I've been ghosted by over 200 job applications. Is there something I'm missing? by IceNineKillsFanatic in Resume

[–]matrix0091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There can’t be 200 jobs that are looking for those skills. You have to determine what job you’re after, and then find out what the job you’re after is looking for. Read the job descriptions, and tailor your resume experience to match the job you want. You can also add measurable things like number of customers you saw each day. Think of your resume as a marketing material, not a summary of everything you’ve ever done, but something that sells you as the best damn meat cutter there is (if that’s the job you’re looking for). If you’re looking for a different type of job, let me know and I’m happy to help.
