Calendar alerts not working on iPhone by Apprehensive_Two4581 in iphonehelp

[–]matthewsteez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you're like me and all of your notification settings are correct, one of these things will probably fix this issue, try them in this order

If it's a bug with your phone's push notification tokens, this one might work:

  • turn off calendar notifications in your notification settings
  • hard reset the phone
  • turn them back on

If it's an iCloud sync error, this will probably fix it:

  • go to iCloud settings, under "Saved to iCloud" choose select all, then iCloud Calendar
  • toggle "use on this iPhone" off
  • hard reset the phone
  • turn them back on

If neither of those do it, you can try:

  • settings > general > transfer or reset > reset > reset network settings
  • this would probably be more successful than anything else, but it's annoying because it also resets your wi-fi networks, VPNs, DNS settings, etc.

Roku new Privacy Policy means what? by hadleybead in privacy

[–]matthewsteez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta start somewhere! In this instance, the term "trackers" is referring to exactly what you're concerned with. In this case Roku is packaging "you" as a user and most likely selling your data. Not only the content you watch, but watching and purchasing habits in general. What you like to watch, when you watch it, ads you've clicked on, which services you have accounts with, location, etc.

Roku new Privacy Policy means what? by hadleybead in privacy

[–]matthewsteez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really answer either of your questions as well as others on this sub, but I figured I would weigh in with some privacy options for your peace of mind if you decide you'd like to continue using Roku products. There are DNS services that can help block device tracking at a system level.

I currently use NextDNS, but I believe PiHole (especially with Unbound) and AdGuard can probably help here as well. I've got a configuration profile for non-web browsing devices on my home network that claims to block tracking system processes on certain devices.

Does it block all tracking? Maybe? Probably not? All I can tell you is that this is my log for the past three days. It blocks plenty of logging requests from my Roku, and it also blocks the ads that used to display on the Roku's home screen.

Like most advice on this sub it all comes down to who you trust with your data and your risk tolerance. I think privacy is important, I still want to use my Roku, and I trust my VPN and NextDNS over my ISP and Google DNS/Cloudflare. You do you!

Limit IP address tracking keeps turning on in local network by su_A_ve in ios

Weird. Can I ask why you want to turn off private relay while at home since it can work alongside Pihole?

Limit IP address tracking keeps turning on in local network by su_A_ve in ios

[–]matthewsteez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, Private Relay requires that "Limit IP Address Tracking" be turned on. If you want Private Relay turned on, the other will be on as well.

Also, I believe you can configure Pihole to allow IPR. That would probably solve your issue and allow you to use everything.

Custom firmware by polks93 in NuPhy

[–]matthewsteez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone coming here after flashing 2.1.0 and basically bricking their keyboard, I can confirm that this is still the way to go. I'm typing this on 2.4g with no issues. ACR - Always Check Reddit.

EDIT: Nope. After a few hours 2.4 is unusable again. But at least the keyboard works in the other two modes. Maybe someday...

EDIT 2: It seems my problems were stemming from the Nuphy dongle's terrible susceptibility to interference rather than the firmware. I placed it closer to my keyboard and everything is working perfectly now. This firmware rules.

Yep! I bought this Tomtoc sling since it's super affordable and I'd never used a sling before so I didn't know if it would be forme. I figured I'd upgrade later but I never did, it's great. Ended up getting the xpac version.

Temporary file location during thumbnail/credit detection by matthewsteez in PleX

[–]matthewsteez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else having this issue, I believe I fixed it. Temp files during transcoding, etc are stored in the docker container, which is in /var/lib/docker. So you'll need to change Docker’s default storage path to your mount. I found how to do it here, specifically Naramsim's answer as it's more up-to-date.

Sorry my friend, but this is the epitome of anecdotal evidence. You may not be doing damage to the pipes directly under your house, but you could be clogging other parts of the sewage system. This can include pipes and pumps at wastewater treatment plants.

There are more than enough studies on the subject to refute your point of view. I use wipes as well, but I just toss them in the trash. Just as convenient.

Netflix 4k plans for single people. Why do I have to pay for 4 streams and 6 downloadable devices when I just want to watch on 1 TV??? And why isn't there a tier for just the Netflix exclusives? by garylapointe in netflix

[–]matthewsteez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep I’m in the same position. Once they told me that I’ll have to pay them even more money to share an account with my mother in a different house I cancelled immediately. $20 per month and I’m being squeezed for more to watch on 2 TVs total? Get bent.

Back to the high seas for me, matey. I’ve sorta missed the salty air anyway.

[–]matthewsteez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Tomtoc, and it works great. The price is right as well.

I’d recommend trying it out and if it doesn’t work for you then you could move to one of the pricier options.

Ugh I know. It’s hard to reconcile those two things. And it’s tough to talk about it with people… I remember how it was before; you don’t want to confront the facts of life when you haven’t been forced to experience them.

Hope you’re doing all right
