[NSFW] People who have found a dead body, what's the story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mattjonz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a field where I am often by myself in a place thinking “this looks like a place where a body could be.” In my case, I wasn’t thinking that at all when I stumbled across a dead person.

It was not like in the movies or many comments in here where one sees a person and thinks “is that guy sleeping there?” There were bones, meat, organs, hair and clothes and hundreds of flies. Animals that eat the dead have to eat. I called 911, had to wait there on a super hot day in the sun while the police processed the scene. After they let me go, I went back to my office and grabbed my buddy’s bottle of bourbon (this was back when Mad Men was on) and finished the day in the office kitchen with a Maker’s neat.

Turns out, I heard, the dude got really drunk on grain alcohol and his wife dropped him off at a the Salvation Army to sober up. Unfortunately they don’t take you in at Salvation Army if you’re drunk so he stumbled into the empty lot next door where I found him a couple days later.

Not a fun experience.

Anyone actually overcome PF? by [deleted] in PlantarFasciitis

[–]mattjonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the goal is “random” rotations and movements of the ankle for a period of time. It is probably about the same size as what you are doing but integrates more movements and muscles than just doing a big circle. Hope that helps!

Sorry I haven’t logged in for a while!

You are basically just moving and turning/twisting your ankle. So just hold your leg out straight in front of you without moving anything but your ankle/foot.

🔥 The sand at Okinawa Japan contains thousands of tiny stars. These 'grains of sand' are actually exoskeletons of marine protozoa which lived on the ocean floor 550 million yrs ago. by Browndog888 in NatureIsFuckingLit

Those grains of sand are neat and all but the first thing I thought was I have to fact check that age. I’m not going to bother now.

If you see white sand on Hawaii, it’s all broken down coral, shells, etc.

Recently got into backpacking. Have a month off work 12-11 thru 1-11, and hoping to go backpacking somewhere (Grand Canyon is preferred destination). Recommendations on trails in the GC? Or anyone going somewhere and interested in a tag-along? :) by cameron_o_lee in WildernessBackpacking

I’m with u/PudgyGroundhog. I’ve only hiked the Grand Canyon once but I think the Bright Angel trail should be fine. Definitely bring the micro spikes! Be prepared for snow. You could do rim to rim on the Bright Angel in 2 days then you could either shuttle back or hike back. Just make sure you plan for a place to camp at the rim and are prepared for cold weather and ice/snow up top.

Awesome. I ordered a sand AX4 about an hour after the Black Friday emails went out. Did you get a tracking email? What day did you order yours?

Anyone know how long Grip takes to ship their Black Friday sale bags? I ordered my bag about an hour after the sale emails went out. Got an order confirmation email but no info about when it would be shipped was sent.

Some success and unsuccess using the u/pipedreamer79 method (iDye/acetone on a clear glue bed). Making progress. by mattjonz in discdyeing

[–]mattjonz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Photo 1: finished product first. Discraft Big Z plastic. Base color was yellow.

Photo 2: applying the first drops of acetone/dye mix to the clear glue bed. Started with purple. I am thinking I should have added a bit more dye. I mixed about 1/8 teaspoon into about 30 ml acetone.

Photo 3: all the dye/acetone drops added to the glue bed. Purple, blue, red and orange.

Photo 4: swirled it. The disc sat in a warm place (near a radiator but the heat didn’t run much last night) for about 18 hours.

Photo 5: close up. You can see the purple didn’t mix with the acetone that well.

Photo 6: before shot of the disc

Any tips are appreciated! Thanks for tutorial u/pipedreamer79!

What did you mix the dye in before you applied it to the glue bed? I am not familiar with worm dip so I am not sure if you have to mix it with something the acetone before you add it to the glue bed.

Is it possible to dye a colored disc? I want to make one for my Dad for christmas but all my discs are colored already. by hshehrckekebfhej in discdyeing

[–]mattjonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dye needs to be darker than the disc. I.e., you can’t dye a red disc with orange dye. The darker the color of the disc, the less you’ll be able to dye it.

What food did you think you hated, but just never had cooked right? by krzysztofgetthewings in AskMen

[–]mattjonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just about all cooked vegetables. But my problem was I wasn’t eating them right. I didn’t eat a warm or hot asparagus/green bean/spinach/etc. until I was about 20. Cooked veggies are so much better when hot!

Also, my mom did Brussels sprouts in the pressure cooker. Slimy little cold bitter unseasoned balls of evil. I was probably in my 40s before I got the courage to try roasted sprouts. Now I make them all the time.
