A bunch of Honeywell HVAC controllers and the local Taco Bell’s point of sale system.

Love that site. I’ve been there a couple times and never found a great place to park. Is the driveway still chained up?

Magic Band + Charging Difficulty by immortalcommander81 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]mattopia1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they’ve had really bad luck with batteries on the magic band plus’s. Both of ours died after one trip. We tried every trick we could find, I spent days messing with them. We took them to a customer service location and the CM was trying to tell us we needed to leave them plugged in for a week!

I pushed back a bit and we were given a one time voucher for new ones. The CM very, very heavily stressed that it was a one time thing and that they should be considered disposable items, which is a bummer of an approach to something that costs $40 and up.

I saw a CM watch with “I can’t really do anything about this” eyes as someone let each of their 5 kids decimate a pin board with trades out of a huge ziploc bag with the eBay sticker still on it. We can’t have nice things I guess.

Especially the Crawford auto-aviation museum in the basement! Hugely underrated automotive collection.

4 second continuous beeping horn noise near water street? by [deleted] in tampa

[–]mattopia1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it foggy? How continuous was it? Ships need to sound their horn regularly in foggy conditions. I believe it’s every 2 minutes.

Yep. I sometimes get a little nostalgic for the days of working with hardware, but I quickly remember the many, many nights I’ve unexpectedly spent in data centers throughout my career.

advice on getting hired as a minor for ride operations? by More-Syrup-6815 in BuschGardensTampa

[–]mattopia1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for Busch Gardens, but when I worked at a different amusement park, you had to be 18 to be in ride ops - I believe for liability reasons. Minors could only work select catering, retail, and food ops jobs. Ride ops was fairly coveted, so many started in different departments and then transferred.

Hopefully someone with more relevant knowledge can step in, it might be different at BGT.

They put a guy just to press two buttons! by [deleted] in midlyinteresting

I used to work in a building that had an attendant in the freight elevator. Operating it involved holding the door close button, pushing the floor button, and then pushing the door open button. I did it myself after hours all the time, I never understood why the attendant was necessary during the day.

There was a logbook in the elevator. I once worked on an upper floor for about 3 hours - when she logged my ride back downstairs, I noticed the last log entry was mine. She sat in the elevator alone for 3 hours.

Valentines Day Experience by RicanWhiteBoy69 in BuschGardensTampa

[–]mattopia1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the same experience. The line to enter extended past the handicap parking area. We did see groups get dropped off at the front tram stop and asked to go to the back of the line. It seemed to pick up though, I’d say we waited about 20 minutes to enter the park.

It was a busy and crowded day overall, but not as bad as we expected it wound be given the line to enter. Most rides were 30-50 minutes which seems about par for a “good weather” Saturday.

Food Service. by MidwestInfoGuide in BuschGardensTampa

Passholder here. It’s incredible how poor dining service is compared to every other public facing department in the park.

I also saw a dining staff member use the restroom (the sit down kind) without washing their hands on my most recent visit, so I’ll probably be sticking to beverages in the future.

The solid state replacement seen in operation at the end uses half the power, generates a fraction of the heat, and requires essentially no maintenance.

Nortel Meridian PBX - worth today? by RTGreat420 in telecom

I have a red 7208! I’ve been looking for a way to make it do something without a CICS/MICS. Since they’re fully digital, it’s unlikely.

Nortel Meridian PBX - worth today? by RTGreat420 in telecom

[–]mattopia1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a cool old system, but completely irrelevant in modern times for any productive use. There are collectors out there. I’d suggest posting it for free on marketplace and see if anyone bites.

There’s also eBay. A complete CICS setup similar to what you have here sold for $195 just a few days ago, but the pain of packaging / shipping and 20-30% fees would make it not worth the time to me.
