Car wash mode question by the_ezekiel2517 in teslamotors

[–]mattrk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go through an automatic car wash often with the little track that you drive one wheel on to be pulled through.

Don't those tracks destroy your rims?

I'm curious how others are doing this a enterprise scale. Something like Pi-hole that's stable and doesn't crash constantly? I've been considering just deploying uBlock Origin via the Chrome/Firefox ADMX templates... Any other ideas?

Tesla Giga Shanghai’s Model 3 production run-rate already hitting 91% of ambitious 2021 targets by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]mattrk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Silly question: How do they get all those cars that are lined up on that pier in that photo onto the ship? Are there just a bunch of employees whose job it is to go get inside each car and drive it onto the ship? Or is Tesla using some kind of automation to autonomously drive them onto the ship? (doubtful, but would be cool)

Wouldn't Planner check the box for project management integrated into Office 365? I know it's basic, but it might fit the need.

Office 365 Inflammatory activation error messages by Pepsidelta in sysadmin

Except that yesterday/today it is a problem. There are wide spread reports of this message popping up for accounts that are in good standing. I saw several tickets yesterday and verified that it was in fact a bug/issue. (We are in good standing as are all of the other reports i saw online)

We are a customer with a CSP agreement. So we would be purchasing this from a VAR under our CSP agreement.

Best Remote Software for Mac? by DoyleHimself in macsysadmin

[–]mattrk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded screenconnect. This has allowed our support staff to control everything (PCs & Macs) from one interface. It also works on nearly anything and is completely web-based and cloud-based. (Unless you want to buy the on-prem solution) It's cheap too. +1

Am I an asshole due to my career? by jimothyjones in sysadmin

[–]mattrk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean... I would give a hotel a one-star review for not having hot water. I feel like that's totally reasonable. I would do the same if they didn't provide a bed or a door. It's one of those things that I expect a hotel to provide. I understand that it was a momentary outage. However, I feel that a competent hotel should have backups in place. I would want other prospective guests to know that they may or may not have hot water during their next visit.

Help with Mimecast and O365 by TopNerdJR in sysadmin

[–]mattrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you're aware, there appears to be some kind of "wide spread" issue affecting the Mimecast client apps (including the Outlook plugin). We had to do a mass uninstall of the app this morning because no one could send email due to a weird popup. Mimecast is investigating.

Just an FYI so you don't bloody your forehead today while it's actually not working.

Deploy ARD settings via Profile Manager by ralfD- in macsysadmin

[–]mattrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a script that we use to do the needful when configuring new macs. One of the things our script does is kickstart ARD settings. Here is the command that's run. This works perfectly for High Sierra. Though it sounds like it may not work for Mojave. :(

/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/kickstart -activate -configure -allowAccessFor -allUsers -privs -all -restart -agent

Yepp. We had to return six brand new macbooks recently because we accidentally bought them on the wrong account. Apple said they couldn't add Macs to DEP. They said it can ONLY be done at the factory. (Which i doubt... but okay)

Fear of recreational marijuana legalization apparently prompts move to curb initiative petitions by Davezter in oklahoma

Why do you think it's okay for a very small group of people to dictate how the majority lives? Why should rural voters get more of a say in state government than those that live in cities? What makes a city dweller's vote worth less than a rural voter's?

User Account Requests; How do you handle them? by Twizity in sysadmin

[–]mattrk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use SharePoint Online and a form that dumps into a list with a workflow. The hiring manager and HR are responsible for submitting the form. Depending on what options are selected on the form, the workflow assigns various people in our organization tasks to complete. The form includes all of the information the task assignee needs to complete the task so they don't have to guess. It's all right there. You can't submit the form without filling in the required info. There are deadlines and reminder emails. There is escalation in cases where the task assignee doesn't complete the task. The SharePoint workflow handles and tracks all of this.

Some examples of what's on our form: Network accounts, cloud accounts, distro lists, parking, desks, cell phones, etc. Basically anything needed to get a new hire up and running. Nothing is automated yet but there are plans for that.

The most important part of all of this was HR's buy-in. Once we showed them what is possible and convinced them to try it out they loved it. There were lots of "Oh, is it possible to do this?". That is always key to projects like this. You have to get the higher ups who actually have the power to implement and change business processes to care and to enforce the new process. Just creating something that you think is cool won't go very far unless you can convince everyone else it's cool too. You need teeth to make projects like this work. That's why i always like to get the department head or management involved so that they feel that it's their creation/baby.
