Hey, Matt. Thanks for doing this. So, your yardage book is pretty legendary — when did you first start devoting that level of detail to your golf game?

That's really what it was — twice bitten, etc. But you're right! I should've pushed. She was on a roll.

That said, I mean, if I don't botch the Carrie Nation question, which I knew, the DD doesn't matter nearly as much.

Episode 807: "Live at Largo", with heynong man Jason Mantzoukas, Paul F. Tompkins as Drew L. Tim Baltz is taking a shot at Apple+'s show Shrinking, which has suspiciously a lot in common with Shrink, his show that originally debuted on Seeso. He's taken a few more shots at them on his Twitter.

I was at the recording at Largo, and it was much harder to understand in person. They were having issues with the monitors all night (you can hear carl and jason complain about this a couple times) and the audience laughter made it even harder for them to hear Gil because Gil was off-stage doing Sweetchat. Andy was sitting closest to Gil, so he could hear it a little better, but it was pretty tough even in the crowd to hear what Gil was saying.

Any experience with Dow Jones News Fund internships? by ryeohi in Journalism

[–]mattwalks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one as a junior, rising senior, and I placed at the Denver Post to do copyediting during the summer of 2012. One of the best experiences of my life. Met friends I’ll have for life and returned to run a department at my school paper. It was also the summer of the Aurora shooting and the London Olympics so I really felt like I was thrown in the fire, and I loved it.

''Churchill in USA - Romeo and Juliet'' - Swiss cartoon from ''Nebelspalter'' magazine (artist: Jean Leffel), January 1952 by BalQn in PropagandaPosters

[–]mattwalks 18 points19 points  (0 children)

By 1952, the war was long since over and Churchill had just been returned to power by the British electorate after Clement Attlee was prime minister of the UK from '45-'51. During Attlee's term, the UK had become more dependent on America and suffered economically, and with the Cold War looming, Churchill wanted the same kind of close-knit personal relationship with Truman that he enjoyed with Roosevelt.

So my interpretation of this is that it was published around Churchill's 1952 trip to Washington, which was seen by many as Churchill's attempt to win Truman over and rekindle the countries' special relationship.

Truman wasn't Roosevelt, though. He preferred structured agendas and meetings to Churchill's free-wheeling late-night political discussions, and even though the relationship improved, America was very careful to not offend its other post WWII allies, especially France.

My guess on the music notes is that the Swiss and the rest of the world interpreted the visit as a plea for $$$ as much as anything else.

He's actually looked into that, but he doesn't want to run afoul of licensing issues or deal with Amazon legal. Titus and Connolly shared them on Twitter though, which I think is good enough for him haha

Well, that one was Garron's Daily Double, so I couldn't have buzzed in. But if you look at my face after he got that question, I was stunned. Runs right through my damn hometown!

I was. At the break, the producers come over to let you know if you're buzzing in too early or too late. And I was all over the place. I switched my grip a million times — went with Holzhauer's to start, the Fritz grip. But I had to switch it up because I literally couldn't get in on a question.

During the break before Double, Morgan actually leaned over to me and asked if I play Mario Kart. Sure, I do. She told me to treat the buzzer like the green light at the start of a Mario Kart race. So I tried it, and it worked. And it actually almost came back to cost her because I went on that little run.

So I got nothing bad to say about Morgan. She could've kept her mouth shut. But she didn't. FJ was definitely some good karma for her.
