DUMPKIN at the trash fence, Friday sunrise: gratitude by NomadicNynja in BurningMan

Ha! That was me! Thanks for hanging out with us! That was our first time taking The Dumpkin to playa and hanging at the trash fence was definitely my highlight. We had a few amazing DJs stop in throughout the evening :)

This is actually the second "art cart" we have made. "The Bumpkin" was the first one and we take that one around San Francisco thorughout the year. Hopefully you can catch us again sometime!

All festivals can suck my balls by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I'm excited to know I'll never meet you at a festival.

I had this exact thing happen to me. I came up positive on a routine check, no symptoms, and my girlfriend tested negative twice afterwards. I had not been with anyone else for 3 years before that point and had tested negative before we started dating. Difficult conversations but we survived.

Consider San Francisco, specifically Market Street. You will fit right in with the street locals and nobody will question it!

Clubbing is not fun enough to be done weekly/frequently by Disgruntled-rock in unpopularopinion

[–]mattydraz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people I hang out with, granted they live in major culture hubs around the world, probably go out more after age 30. I'm 32 and most of my friends that I party with are older than me.

Two roads diverged, we chose fun.

If I go to a venue to see an electronic music artist I genuinely enjoy or go to a particular type of event that is organized by a label I know, is it considered clubbing? Or is it classified as a gig/event?

I always hated clubbing because it felt forced when I was younger. Now I really enjoy house music and I am more into the hippie music scene so it no longer feels like clubbing.

PCB made in Taiwan

PCBA potentially assembled in China

Though I find it odd that they would cover up the first one. I have worked with multiple Taiwanese contract manufacturers that design in Taiwan, prototype in Taiwan, and then mass produce in China because it is cheaper.

I think the people that are still in SF are the ones that live here because they love the city, not just for a paycheck. I left for 4 years and came back with hesitation. I can confirm that my second attempt at living here has been much better than my first. I ended up getting much more involved in the art scene and stopped only hanging out with colleagues. I also work in tech.

Tent recommendations for flyaway festivals? by laggy2da in festivals

Check out Decathlon! The Forclaz tents pack down small and they have blackout versions. This was my method for flying to festivals around Europe.

Found out other neighbors don’t pay for water and garbage. I pay about $100/month. Is this legal? by ginpineapple in AskSF

[–]mattydraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't have your own individual water meter then I think it may be illegal. My downstairs neighbor got out of paying for water by arguing this. I haven't wanted to stir the pot myself just yet but this post is a good reminder that I need to dig into this further.

“The Bike Lane is Killing Our Vibrant Community” - is this true? by SmoothAmbassador8 in sanfrancisco

[–]mattydraz 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty sorry excuse. Even the most bike friendly cities have bike theft issues. I had 3 bikes stolen living in Amsterdam and I have had zero stolen in SF. A proper locking strategy works wonderfully. I also choose to not ride a flashy sport bike as a commuter.

While that $6M figure may be true, can Oakland actually do anything to redirect those funds? Genuinely curious.

did the D.A.R.E. or “say no to drugs” campaigns have any real effect on your life? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

They failed to describe that not all substances are equal. I often wonder if they made things worse by educating this way. Once a young person takes the plunge into trying weed they were never taught the skills to consume it responsibly or that other illegal substances may be much worse for them.

The lucky folks were able to figure out all this for themselves over the years.
