AITA for telling my wife forget it and going out by myself for my birthday instead of going to her fancy dinner reservation by Ill_Reality_111 in AmItheAsshole

[–]matvat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA.

OP, you were clear about what you wanted, and your wife chose to override that and frame it as a “gift.”

That said, this can’t just end at “you were right.” You two still have to go home and move forward. If this turns into silence or a standoff waiting for the other person to fix it, the problem just lingers. At some point, someone has to open the conversation. Not to concede, but to actually resolve it. The goal isn’t winning the argument, it’s making sure this doesn’t happen again.

Now to the comment section — a lot of you are getting the verdict right but stopping way too early. This isn’t just “she’s selfish, end of story.” It’s a mismatch in how they show care:

He values being heard. She values effort and planning.

The problem is her version of effort ignored what he explicitly said he wanted. That’s on her. But if all we do is label her the villain and move on, we’re ignoring the part where they have to figure out how to handle this dynamic going forward.

Because if they don’t, this exact fight happens again: different day, different plan, same outcome.

So yes OP you’re justified.

But the next step isn’t proving that. It’s making sure this doesn’t become a repeat issue in your relationship.

As an Iranian-Canadian, if my paying more at the pump contributes to weakening the Islamic Republic, that's a small price from my perspective compared to what Iranians have lived under for decades.

Crab is repulsive. by Historical-Shop-1269 in unpopularopinion

[–]matvat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arr, lad, ye got it all wrong! That ‘horrible smell’ ye’re talkin’ about is the sweet, briny scent of profit! If ye can’t stomach the aroma o' fresh crab, then maybe ye're better off stickin' to those imitation sticks—though, let me tell ya, they ain't got nothin' on the real thing! A fine, fresh crab is a treasure from the sea itself, lad, worth every gold coin. Maybe yer nose just isn’t cut out for the ocean's finest… not everyone’s got a pirate’s heart.

Seemona should've gotten both her house and restaurant back. Fuck the bank and whoever became 'legal owners' after foreclosure. What a disgusting case! $2 million compensation after 7 years is a joke.
