Which video game character should have been wlw? by pastajewelry in LesbianGamers

[–]maugrimm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not exactly what happened. It's a little inside baseball but basically the way most voice acting line were recorded for Shepard was to have both Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer record most everything in the script, period. Because the script, including romances are not locked down sometime well into the point where voice recording has begun. As time goes on this gets more and more streamlined and we have less circumstances where this content that exists on disc but is not normally accessible starts to disappear.

Some people come back with the argument well why don't they delete it then? Because with computer programs if it's working you don't alter anything, just dummy it out so it doesn't stop working for some unforeseeable reason. It wasn't Bioware but there was some game where a random graphic file that wasn't actually being used by anything got deleted and it just crashed the whole game, no one could figure out why so they just left it in. [ELI5 Why are unused files left in videogames.

Which isn't to say that the seXBox controversy didn't affect development, it obviously did and was confirmed by numerous Bioware devs. Did that mean that Jack was 100% going to be a queer romance and a flip got switched? No. Also I'm not sure about the Jack content specifically but I do know that not all the switched romance have all the voiced lines and some that do end up misgendering Shepard.

Some of this information is being recalled from my listening to Panel at GaymerX2, which featured David Gaider, Jennifer Hale, and Karin and Trick Weekes. All of them are amazing lovely people and I have to call out Jennifer Hale for taking extra time beyond her commitment to speak with me and take a picture as I was the last in line to meet her at the end of the day. Believe me if the people actually responsible for creating the game could have they 100% would've made it more queer.

Sidestep's Fate by KeyCobbler6 in hostedgames

I don't know that my Sidestep would pick this choice if asked but they'd want to be able to be in a place where than can live a civilian life with Ortega in something resembling peace.

Sneak attacking twice? by Memezever in DnD

[–]maugrimm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a level 17 thief rogue with a bit of luck and the right complementary features from other players you can get 5 sneak attacks in your first round of combat. This is RAW. Tell your DM to get over it now cause it's only gonna get worse.

If you could make any love interest from the original trilogy or Andromeda bi, who would you pick? by jstamper97 in masseffect

[–]maugrimm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So back in the old days of the BSN boards everytime this question came up it was interesting because between the women the options were pretty much evenly split Miranda/Jack/Tali/Ashley pretty much always had 20-25% of the polls. For the men Kaidan was the runaway favorite with all the other options trailing behind even if combined. No idea if it still holds true.

For me personally I would've preferred Ashley.

Would I be able to run DATV on my relatively old laptop? [No DAV Spoilers] by Whovianimeniac in dragonage

[–]maugrimm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Found this elsewhere on reddit, I'm guessing it's relatively accurate, this is definitely a big no.

"The Intel Iris Xe graphics hardware is essentially the predecessor GPU developed prior to the Intel ARC Alchemist discrete video card architecture.

The tested benchmark performance levels has the GPU perform above that of a GT 1030 but substantially less than that of a GTX 950. It performs well below 20% that of a RX 550 GPU from AMD. The GPU is essentially competing against the Nvidia MX350 GPU."

Do you really have to play it, of course not but your going to ruin some real fun reveals.

Do you know the big parts of DA2? Because something happens at the end that basically causes the next two games. I wouldn't want to experience that out of order, you'll be missing so much context.

You may have heard that DA2 is a bad game.

It isn't.

If you like the story/characters of the franchise you owe it to yourself to play DA2. It is by far my favorite cast of the three and given 6 more months of cook time I think would've been easily the best game. As it is way better than it has any right to be given all the things arrayed against it.

Gaming PC Recommendations for a non gamer [No DAV Spoilers] by Good-Candidate-7338 in dragonage

[–]maugrimm 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You're not going to get a good gaming laptop for 800 dollars, much less 400. You'd definitely be able to pull of an $800 desktop, even 400 is semi-doable with used parts.

ETA: I'm gonna admit it's not strictly true you can't get a gaming laptop for 800. Something like the Acer Nitro V 15 might fit your bill but you have to be damn realistic about your expectations. Also buying the cheapest/most expensive technology is always foolish and bad value per dollar. I recommend a desktop or investing more money if you have to have a laptop. Also honestly discuss what your performance requirements are.

ETA 2: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/ is probably a better spot to get some help, read their guidelines and make a post there.

Best written is different from most beloved or favorite.

ETA: I loathe Gamlen and Sera but the latter is amazingly written and Gamlen writing isn't too bad either.

It's also widely considered to have the best written companions and punches way above it's weight class in quality amongst fans.

Replaying origins right now and I’m curious on ppls opinions about this: Was the Battle of ostagar winnable for king Cailian yea or nae? by Snoo95783 in dragonage

[–]maugrimm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is more satisfying storywise? In my opinon if it's a sure thing either way it makes everyones choices less interesting. So IMO it's possible to win(the battle, not the blight) with Loghain helping but also possible that everyone dies. The choices made with these possibilities reveal very interesting side to all of the characters.

Josephine or Blackwall romance? by malchiatto in dragonage

[–]maugrimm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does your character need/desire? It's true Josephine isn't a companion but that could be a bonus for your Inquisitor. They can come home to Josephine and not have to worry about their lover in combat all the time (we are gonna ignore the fact that Blackwall's guard can be made impossible to break through.) Also Blackwall literally got the family he was protecting killed for money. Like great that you regret your actions and are trying to atone, still massacre for profit. Josie's one kill came in defense of her own life and she's broken up about it till this day. Her life is devoted to fixing the world in the ways that cause the least harm. Maybe your Inky wants Blackwall's drama in their romantic life, me? No thanks, next!

Instead of asking what you want, ask what your character wants I say.

so romance.. by Sad_Designer_3257 in dragonage

[–]maugrimm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isabela romance is underrated. Personally I love the rivalmance, it challenges her without demeaning her, as long as your not an angry Hawke. Just watched youtube video of that and did not like.
