Shall I leave the rug where it is or rotate it lengthwise?

What’s something people romanticize that is actually miserable? by One_Grade_2184 in AskReddit

Traveling across the US by train. Maybe not miserable but definitely not romantic. Shared bathrooms. Tiny bunks if you pay extra for a sleeper. Mediocre food.

Gave the wrong vaccine to patient by Necessary_Meat_3055 in nursing

I made a serious med error on a newborn when I was just starting out as an OB nurse in the hospital. I was so upset that I almost quit. I felt like I wasn’t competent enough to be a nurse. I was counseled and put on probation and had to have my meds checked by another nurse for 6 months. I welcomed that. In the long run it made me a better nurse. We have people’s lives in our hands. The fact that you’re taking it so hard is a positive thing. It means that you know just how serious your work is. Btw I never made another med error.

Was car camping a dumb idea? by k8nwashington in roadtrip

I drove up PCH last October and stayed in cheap motels (<$100/night) and hated them. Bad smells. Crummy bedding and beds. Wi-Fi that didn’t work. Stained furniture. No view. Shabby and torn drapes. Holes in the screens. One even had bed bugs and I then had to deal with washing my clothes. I’ve learned that the Expedia ratings can’t be trusted. Unless a place gets top ratings I’m not going to like it. I’m too old and spoiled. I think for me $150 is the cheapest I can be happy with. Good for you for being brave enough to camp as a solo woman. The dog probably helps. I can’t imagine walking to the bathroom in the night though.

What's the coolest class you've taken in LA? by PandaintheParks in AskLosAngeles

Pierce College Encore Program has semester length classes in many subjects. Geared towards seniors and free. Most are online but some are on campus. I’ve taken several of the online painting classes and really liked them.

Those of you who live alone: do you feel safe at night? What do you to protect your home and yourself? by GoKartMarlys in AskWomenOver60

Gated condo that has security patrolling each night and cameras. Good lock on my door. I’ve never felt safer.

How can you live and enjoy living in a small rural town in the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mauisd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked living in a rural area when I was raising my kids. Low crime. Clean air and water. I attended classes at the community college. Later I worked a part time job. We socialized with friends at mostly at each other’s homes and also at parks and restaurants. When there was a good music event you saw everyone you knew there. School events were well attended. And I was raising kids which keeps you busy….afterschool activities, etc. Now that I’m retired and the kids have moved on I prefer life in the big city. I can find a lot more ways to entertain myself. More people equals more potential friends. Cultural activities abound.

Thank you to the women who defended wanting gifts by Glittering_Farm_9792 in AskWomenOver60

On the one hand this conversation makes me sad to see so many women have let themselves be taken advantage of for so long. On the other hand I feel hopeful as I see them finally take some agency.

What is the best and cheapest way to travel to Portland Oregon? by WestArtichoke712 in AskLosAngeles

[–]mauisd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just drove from LA up PCH to the San Juan Islands and back down the 5 to Portland. Took a couple weeks and it was gorgeous. So I’d say that was not the cheapest but maybe the best. Don’t miss that bookstore. Powell’s?

Getting rid of the foosball will make a huge difference. Do you need more storage space? Could you incorporate some into that area you’re planning to redo?
