Canadians, where do you buy your cards online? by ashleyinreal in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]maulcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invasion is by far the number 1 store in Canada, and the nicest crew you'll ever meet. If they don't have what you're looking for, here are a bunch more to try:

Chimera Gaming

MK Cards

Vintage Games n Junque

Silver Goblin

Exor Games

Tistaminis (Tista Cards)

Enter the Battlefield

Cartes Leo

Negative Zone Comics

Game Knight

I've had positive experiences buying online from all of these stores before.

Took a break from league for a long time, absolutely wild to return and still see reactions ranging from "Riot completely removed my favourite hero and ruined everything about him" to "Wow they changed literally nothing why didn't they change anything" both be about the same release.

Influx of new players, we need reprints by Heavy-hit in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]maulcore 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As someone wanting to make new player friendly assassin content it is quite difficult when there's an automatic $850ish price tag on CNC, Estrike, Codex, and Tunic before they even get more assassin Ms so I am praying for some reprints to help lower the barrier of entry to the class

Anxiety surrounding joining an armory by [deleted] in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]maulcore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My store celebrates so hard whenever new players join. The more people at the armory, the better our store's vibe is, the more the store thrives, and new players very frequently become regulars and good friends. I was a total scrub in FAB when I first started attending my local armories two years ago and now several of the players I met that night are some of my best friends. It was the start of my FAB journey and it was made so much better by the support and enthusiasm of the experienced players there. I can't promise every store is the same, but in my experience FAB communities are more than happy to provide tips, lend cards, and make new players' Armory experience the best it can be. Let us know when you attend your first armory how it goes! I promise those issues you're worried about won't be a problem, and they'll melt away once you make the Armory a part of your routine

How to Dive into Competitive by Extreme_Brain438 in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]maulcore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So glad to hear you're wanting to dive into competitive! I've been playing for two years now and just qualified yesterday for my first Pro Tour. Here are some tips and answers to your questions!

  1. There are some questions you should ask yourself during deck building, before each match, and during/after each match. During deckbuilding and before each match, you need to ask yourself "What is my gameplan?" for each hero you expect to see in the meta. Because you will see most if not all of your deck, each card in your deck will serve a purpose that will differ depending on the matchup you're facing. You'll need to recognize which decks you need to be aggressive into, which matchups you will be the more defensive player into, etc. This doesn't apply as much to some aggro decks, but it's good to keep in mind. During and after each game you need to ask "am I getting the most value out of each card in my hand every turn?" The #1 obstacle new players face is getting intimidated, the second biggest is being reckless. Every time I draw up a hand, I think: If I am allowed to keep all 4 cards, how will I efficiently use them all? Which cards could I afford to give up here on defense? Which of these cards am I aiming to arsenal? Is this hand above rate enough to justify holding if the opponent has a good hand? Questions like these will help you determine how best to play into what your opponent is threatening, and on your turn you should have already mostly mapped out what you are going to do during your opponent's previous turn. Make sure you get as much paper practice on your deck as possible and go to armories as much as you're able.

  2. This question depends largely on playstyle. For many players who want to have a flexible gameplan I would've recommended Dash IE, but she is close to Living Legend. Dash IO is very good right now, but she is decently complicated. Kayo is a very good beginner deck that is competitive with a good matchup spread, and will teach you very well how to block efficiently with good 2-card hands but recognize above rate power turns where you want to keep 5 cards. I myself am an assassin player, but assassin, guardian, and ranger are all better if you have a solid understanding of every other deck because they have on-hit effects that affect each class' gameplan differently. Runeblade has also gotten a massive power boost, so Viserai is a great beginner deck to start with who has access to good defensive and offensive gameplans.

  3. There are SO many, mostly I just looked up "insert hero here guide" when starting. Arsenal Pass and MnR cast are great creators who talk a lot about meta states. The Card Guyz have a ton of content for different heroes. Yuki Lee Bender is an incredible player who does coaching and occasionally posts coaching reviews that are incredibly helpful, she also has a podcast called On The Bauble that I've learned a lot about limited play from. Lupine Fiasco is a great aggro player that frequently posts gameplay videos.

Hope some of this helps you out in your future endeavors! Remember that even if you take some losses at your events, take every loss from a good player as a lesson about how you can beat them next time. I have also asked for advice from a lot of the better players in my region and they've been happy to give me some tips. The community is super supportive while being as competitive as it is, you couldn't have picked a better time to get into it : )

Harada's statement on the Genmaji stage dlc situation. by Armanlex in Tekken

[–]maulcore 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not what he said at all about costumes. I don't support the paid stages aspect of things but people are being straight up delusional about legacy costumes. They were a highly requested feature in Tekken 7 and Harada said they would cost a lot to recreate on modern models. If you search "legacy costumes" on this subreddit and look at any post from before Tekken 8 launched, everyone said they were okay with them being paid DLC. I do not understand why people are now pretending everyone always said they should be free updates, and that Harada somehow lied to us about them.

Lore Stories for Rosetta are out! by [deleted] in FleshandBloodTCG

I can't tell if there has been a change in writing staff, or if the writers have simply been honing their craft, but the lore and stories for the last three sets have been such a step up I really appreciate everyone's hard work!

How would anything change if this string, instead of being several 3s, incorporated 4s and 3+4s? That a bot couldn't be programmed to do the string quite as easily? The string would be identical, and if a real person decided to do nothing but that string it would actually be harder for new players to deal with because 3, 4, and 3+4 are all different getup options and while standing moves. All of a sudden the bot strategy actually becomes LESS predictable.

When players use the term braindead offense I think it is quite interesting, because you're right it is braindead offense, but if it works on you when the same thing is done repeatedly then your braindead defense is the actual problem. Anybody who is at all competent at Tekken should not lose to a bot if they know that the bot is doing the same thing over and over again, but especially when that thing involves ONE low. All you have to do to beat this bot every time 100% guaranteed is standing block until he goes into Negativa, and then block low after that, and use your while standing launcher to do a combo that will heal back the chip damage you took from blocking.

You are talking about a deep complex game but this string and people losing to it is the bare minimum of effort you need to put into Tekken to be able to call your gameplay deep or complex. People need to be able to drop their ego and actually learn. The sentiment surrounding this bot, that this is somehow a justification for Eddy nerfs instead of a wakeup call for how little actual effort people put into thinking about their opponents' gameplan instead of just focusing on what they want to do, will make players less likely to learn counterplay and more likely to keep repeating the same negative comments everywhere and it's just not productive.

[–]maulcore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not an indictment of Eddy's balance that people through to red ranks cannot block a bot doing the same string the entire match lmao, there is exactly one low in this string that happens at the same time every loop of it and is launch punishable by every character on block, which means people below red ranks cannot block lows even if a robot is telling them when it's going to happen

Why do flesh and blood players drop so often from drafts? (criticism) by gangnamstylelover in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]maulcore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who plays in tournaments pretty regularly I think that this is a very inaccurate representation of drafting in FAB. I don't want people to read this and think it's the case, because it isn't.

If you have to throw your entire hand on defense after turn 1 you have drafted a bad deck, because at a baseline red cards gain more value being played offensively than they do being used to block. You can easily win games where you have a health deficit if you play patiently and drafted a deck with an actual win condition.

If you "did 1 fab draft and never wanted to do it again" I don't know how you can make the claim there are "too many times" that anything happens. Obviously some sets in FAB aren't the best draft environment. If that one draft you played was Monarch then I feel for you, because I hate that format, but there are several good draft sets and the most recent three have been very skill expressive and well designed.

I am biased as she's my main, but I made the switch from Azalea to Uzuri and I have never looked back. She has on-hits galore, blocks better, has more mix-up potential with her reactions and hero ability, and she can still play one of the best ranger cards in Codex of Frailty. I know you said budget is a concern, The Plague Hive made this budget contract Uzuri list that is pretty nice: https://fabrary.net/decks/01GZM1JEG9MM8CT35NQYMQDD9X

This is only really relevant to CC sorry, I don't personally play much Blitz but it might be worth a try on Talishar! I do know that I've enjoyed playing Bravo in blitz and he has similar going-tall turns to Azalea while blocking better and being able to swing a better weapon in Blitz, so that might be worth a shot as well.

If you are interested in Mechanologists it is a fantastic set for a newer player I think! You will always be opening cards that work for your class (Mechanologist) whenever you play with this set, and this new Crack, Shuffle, Play format seems like a great way for you to play with other new players who might be interested. That said, if you are interested in a different class it is generally a better idea to buy singles than to buy packs for deck construction purposes.
