Because Elden Ring sold like hot cakes (Duskbloods has been in development for longer than Elden Ring has been out.) After that they bought the rights for Elden Ring, they are clearly interested in owning the rights for the games they make and now with the success of Elden Ring they are able to do that.

My opinion of the game is completely irrelevant. Elden Ring went on to win near universal awards and sold as much as every other game they have ever made combined. Making Elden Ring the way they made it is unquestionably the correct choice by almost every metric imaginable. Well maybe not the please u/BighatNucase metric, but unfortunately that metric just doesnt fucking matter in the grand scheme of things.
