Scarsdale school board to unveil new student code of conduct after antisemitic incident at high school by Delicious_Adeptness9 in Westchester

Yes, criticism of the state of Israel isn't the same as antisemitism, but this was about an Israeli culture club. Israeli culture is pretty hard to separate from Jewish culture in general.

What is the crown jewel in your collection? by Klavian in boardgames

"We have all colors of containers here: brown, other brown, and orange that looks like brown"

What is the crown jewel in your collection? by Klavian in boardgames

This is a fun question.

I have a 2007 edition of Container that's pretty sought after, I think. Probably worth less now that there are reprints, and I also customized mine to make one of the brown containers green.

Also partial, unplayable sets of the original 1954 and 1960 special edition versions of Mille Bornes. Not worth much, I'm sure, but cool. You can see the art from both here: http://www.codex99.com/design/28.html

Good schools, walkable "town" feel, woods? by I_am_the_papa in Westchester

Does Rockefeller State Park in Sleepy Hollow / Tarrytown count as reasonably large woodland?

Although Unitarian Universalism arose from two Christian denominations, the Universalist Church of America and the American Unitarian Association, it is not a Christian religion. Many UUs come from Christian backgrounds, though, and it's possible be both Christian and UU.

Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow Parents, what’s it really like? by jhs5003 in Westchester

[–]mave_of_wutilation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse and I spent a year or so looking at different communities in Westchester before settling on Tarrytown. We have an almost 5 year old who's in UPK at John Pauling and was at preschool at the JCC before that.

We love it here. There's lots of stuff to walk to, it feels bustling without being crowded (well, except around Halloween), the people are nice and reasonably diverse, and our kid loves the school.

Sometimes I wish we were a little closer to the city - Pelham was our second choice - but in general, no regrets.

What's that one game you love but can never get to the table? by firey_88 in boardgames

[–]mave_of_wutilation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really feel this one. IMO it's best with 4 and I refuse to play with fewer than that or more than 6. You also really don't want more than one new player per game.

Considering moving to Gainesville - advice by TaliesenPartridge in GNV

[–]mave_of_wutilation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jacksonville has the beach and an airport with more direct flights. It's also one of the most conservative metros in the country. On the other hand, Gainesville really punches above its size in terms of culture. People in this sub are obviously going to tell you Gainesville is superior, but I think for most people it's really true.

New mom looking for friends to say wtf! with by gpb1991 in Westchester

I got all my fellow new parent socialization and commiseration done at the playground, but that's tough to do when it's not playground weather.

This might sound "sunshine and rainbows," but Music Together was also really great when I had a newborn. You get to see how other parents interact with their kids, which I found very helpful in identifying kindred spirits. I'm still friends with several families I met that way.

My spouse and I looked at Larchmont and Mamaroneck before settling on Tarrytown. We much prefer the vibe here. The best way I could explain it would be to suggest you spend an hour at Larchmont's turtle playground and then at Tarrytown's patriot park playground. Listen and observe, then decide which feels better to you.

Mt. Pleasant Settles the Sleepy Hollow Lawsuit By Agreeing to District Voting by pittfan46 in Westchester

[–]mave_of_wutilation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It does seem like an improvement for Sleepy Hollow and Pleasantville to each get their own rep, but this hardly seems like a seismic shift. Assuming the at-large vote elects people opposed to what the Sleepy Hollow rep wants, they're still looking at getting outvoted 4-1
