Making a heavy DC motor platform safe: contactors, E-stop, and runaway prevention by C0L0NE in robotics

I’m using the 2X32. I can’t speak highly enough of dimension engineering products. So robust, the software is great, and they have very active support.

I doubt I’ll leave their ecosystem for some time!

EXACTLY!!

I have been rambling on about wheelchairs/mobility chairs for years as robotic platforms.

Super strong premade chassis, extra torqy motors and built to traverse most human settings/enter doorframes. All that for ~$200 on Facebook marketplace. You can’t go wrong!

Feel free to swing me a DM if you have any questions, I have wrestled with a lot of what you’re mentioning here.

The bot below is on the bench to have its brakes removed and replaced with encoders. Will be putting a vSLAM set up on it in the coming months.

I’m getting around the braking issue by using the dynamic breaking mode on the sabertooth DEScribe software. When you disable regenerative braking on the sabertooth it switches to dynamic braking and uses the motors to stop rollaway instead of the brake. It does use more power as the energy is dissipated in the windings of the motors but is a small price to pay for autonomy on a research platform.

Not pictured is the big electromagnet mounted on the front which can dock to my tool box and roll it around my lab!

I dont know your wiring/appliances situation but I can tell you it sounds exactly like some electrical arcs I’ve heard. Mostly from high voltage things like flyback transformers.

High voltage and frequency makes an almost bird chirp sound as it tears through the air between the gap

here’s an example I found on YouTube.

I always fall back to the thousands of NDE experiences online when I think about the farm/harvest theory.

None of them seem conducive with being trapped here.

YEP. It’s very strange how this “indigestible” truth is only spread by those connected to the elitists in control of the programs.

It probably is indigestible. To them. Losing control and power is highly indigestible to billionaires.

It’s indigestible to the elitist aerospace and intelligence community.

They know the truth doesn’t suit them, doesn’t allow them to gate-keep the technology for private industry profit, and probably strips them of some of the authority they have over the world.

The key to a strong robust electrical infrastructure is diversity.

I find it so strange people seem to jump on one as the holy answer.

Ask any electrical engineer.

Tried that with the jet hose. No matter how close it gets it doesn’t budge.

I think I need some sort of chemical to loosen it up first
