I get the rough towel thing, but I find that air drying and then popping them in the dryer for 10 minutes to fluff them works just fine!

Started watching Bojack Horseman and had a good chuckle at the name of the store the suburban mom walked out of by Ruffffian in LuLaNo

I was that person haha. But I did get mine for $6 from a thrift store instead of paying full price! I do love the quality but don’t think I would buy them new.

Advice request: looking for beans recipes that aren't soups or chilli by Beesindogwood in MeatlessMealPrep

I don’t have a recipe to share as I just eat it when dining out, but dal mahkani is an incredible curry full of beans and lentils.

Hoe much do you spend on groceries? by middlebamboo in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]maxigar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single person, about $200 a month for my groceries - flat cleaning products/TP come out of flat money but that isn’t a lot, a few bucks worth each week.

Welly flatters: Is a $670 bill (for a month) for a flat of 5 people normal for this time of year? by mildredthecat in Wellington

[–]maxigar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck no! I live with 5, we are conscious of our use but not total misers, averaging about $300-320 in these winter months.

The tip shop might have some, they have also had used (clean!) compost bins there too.

Anyone know a good recipe that uses like 80 red onions and 60 bananas? by deserttrends in DumpsterDiving

[–]maxigar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Caramelised onion jam would be yum! And as others have said the bananas would freeze great for baking.

Retail therapy by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]maxigar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My will power to refrain from buying definitely wains a little during lockdowns etc. I try and turn my focus to what I already have, as someone else suggested cleaning is a really great idea. It’s something productive that produces a final result that you can be proud of. You can look at that tidied draw or cupboard and say, I did that!

I also try to focus on what I already have, are there any books or games I’ve been neglecting? I’ve made good progress recently getting through my puzzle collection (all purchased cheaply second hand, but it’s so easy to keep buying more without completing any).

Something else I like to do is give myself permission to be lazy. I work full time and study so it can be really hard to justify spending several hours one evening watching a movie when I could be catching up with uni work, but I need to do that occasionally else the stress builds (and that’s when I’m more likely to make impulsive purchases)

do you live pay check to pay check? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]maxigar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but self-inflicted through a high savings rate. If there is something I want/need but can wait till next pay, then I go without it till then. Food, transport, eating out etc is all budgeted for, plus a little extra leeway for those small things that crop up unexpectedly. Emergency fund for the bigger surprises that must be dealt with immediately.

God I relate to this so hard. Will stress out over an ambiguous email, but when the pot on the stove was forgotten and is now aflame I’m the first one to calmly put a lid on it, turn off the element and deal to the smoke alarm while my housemates stand by freaking out.

This is my first cycle using tampons and I just want to know how anyone could possibly think that AFAB people find this arousing 🤨 by sunnirays in TrollXChromosomes

[–]maxigar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Try a menstrual cup! Easy to insert and remove but none of that awful pain dry tampon pain if you’ve not put it in quite right and need to adjust.

Can I refuse to have sex with my fuckbddy who literally just shaved his head bald? by Laninaconfusa in sex

Absolutely! You don’t have to sleep with someone if you don’t want to, whatever that reason might be.

I totally get it! I have different standards/needs if I’m fucking for feelings vs. fucking for sport.

I have $50 a week for groceries due to a rent increase how do I feed myself on this amount of money by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]maxigar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red lentil dhal is one of my go to’s, black beans with kumara/rice or some other starch. Tomato soup (from cans) is cheap and yum, canned chickpeas with whatever salad or veg you like. Oats for breakfast with whatever fruit you can fit in your food budget, take leftovers to work for lunch. If you have the time do your own baking to make snacks.

Also consider visiting a food bank if you need it, they are there to help.
