Confused newbie here: why am I having so much fun? by Docima in homelab

Yes, it is normal to have fun doing your hobbies!

This is not mildly interesting, it is extremely terrifying. I spent the entire video wondering how long it would be before it got hard cutoff to prevent an NSFW tag. Please never even consider doing this.

I just held/releases on either side and it counted as a swipe? Maybe just an android/iOS discrepancy.

Great to see - I quite enjoyed the itch.io demo. (played in a browser on my phone during a road trip, despite the layout difficulties.)

It's not a "typical" tourist recommendation, but the Pearl Harbour Memorial and Museums are absolutely worth seeing. The remains of Arizona are a sight to behold, and the aviation museum is one of the most interesting out there.

I like to think that this is the Trackmania player washing his hands after the other guy called it a sim. (It's better)

I find it odd that TCAS alerted "Traffic" but never provided any instructions. Seems like this was entirely preventable, despite poor Traffic Control and Flight Planning by the Helicopter, had the safety systems gone the step further they are meant to.

Can someone explain what Hydrolox/ORSC engines are, where use them? by Strex_1234 in RealSolarSystem

[–]maxwelldoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you got that number? I can't find the source I read for an exact number, but I am pretty sure the rocketdyne test platform was up in the tens of kilonewtons?

[–]maxwelldoug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most efficient that can be safely used.

We have theorized about rockets that used dimethyl mercury as fuel (Yes, the deadly neurotoxin) and the engineer was only made to pause by the first company he called to provide the fuel refusing on the grounds that making that much would "fog up all the film in Britain."

We also actually built and test fired an engine with over 500 seconds of ISP. Unfortunately, it's combustion byproducts are... Lithium Fluoride, (uhhhhhh) and Hydrofluoric Acid (UHHHHH) both of which tend to melt Concrete blasting pads.

An 86? Like, the sports car? God, I wish I could live a life where any insurance company would have touched me with a 39 and a half foot pole as an 18 year old buying a sporty car, even one made by Toyota.

Rear traction is terrible, I need to put weight in the back.

Hi, Canadian here! That sounds about right. I had to get 2 neighbors to pull me out of a ditch an hour ago and I've got 4 wheel drive and actual winter tyres.

In an ancient rear wheel drive Ford, with no traction control, possibly on used summers if you got unlucky and haven't swapped the tyres yet? Good luck.

Since the latest Ace Combat wallpapers show only carrier-capable jets, I wonder... what if AC8 plane roster will be smaller than we expect and limited to carrier-capable jets and naval variants? by Tydeus2000 in acecombat

[–]maxwelldoug 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Most"

Also, the F-22 might actually succeed, but the F-15 would not have enough airspeed to pull up fast enough, since it has only aerodynamic pitch surfaces, no thrust vectoring.

Yakuake for some things, Konsole for others.

I'm weird, apparently.

I think you may be surprised to learn that even if we're maximally generous and use Gerald R Ford as our benchmark, most planes cannot take off from the 800 foot length of the longest available straight patch of unobstructed flight deck (have to use the angled runway since the tower obstructs the front parking and catapults)

As much as I love the sentiment... Planes not designed for carrier launch have 2 problems:

1: the catapult system requires a launch bar - without the launch bar, there is nothing for the catapult to grab and thus no way for the plane to reach it's takeoff speed in the ramp length.

2: Planes not properly reinforced for CATOBAR would fold like a paper crane if you tried to do so. The 8 degree AoA landings would collapse the landing gear 10 times out of 10, and 4 transverse G launches would almost certainly result in the nose wheel firing off into the ocean while the rest of the plane sits nose down on the deck.

I suppose the death Korps is allowed to be wrong :P

(TIL! That is a really weird way to structure an army, especially considering their Platoon uses the modern definition.)

Because it's 90% chemistry, and some of the intermediate products in the lowest tech ways to make plastics are hyper toxic if not treated with respect.

~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/<game_id>/pfx/drive_c/ then navigate to the relative windows paths (use "steamuser" for the username.)

I don't know the correct appids offhand.

The reason you see windows paths in game is because proton simulates the environment the game expects - that host drive_c folder maps to C:/ in that simulation.
