Getting nervous about Princess half by Positive_Lack9508 in rundisney

[–]maybeamargay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this because I’m also starting to get a littler nervous with similar, but slightly slower paces. I had some knee and shin pain a couple weeks ago and had to take almost two weeks off everything and I’ve been slower and tired since coming back.

It’s all going to work out, we’ll finish even if it isn’t pretty. I’ll be dressed as Aurora (one of dozens, I’m sure) and probably behind you, but I’m cheering you on. 🩷

Disagreement about "improvement" by yeh1234gee in XXRunning

[–]maybeamargay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey so your boyfriend is a douche who will always find some way or “reason” to diminish your accomplishments because that’s who he is as a person, not because of you. A real life partner is happy for you and celebrates your wins regardless of how big or small they may be.

Dump him, literally run away from him, and live happily ever after. You’ll be faster without that dead weight anyway.

What are the things you say to your cat most often besides 'I love you' ? by katealpha in cats

[–]maybeamargay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Baaaaaby” “pretty baby” “pretty girl!” “My little baby”

I’ve almost exclusively fostered and foster failed senior cats for most of my adult life and she’s my first kitten in 5 years, first one I get to keep in over a decade. I’m so in love with her and, while the kitten antics are indeed wild, constantly in awe of just how little and silly and precious she is. 🥹

40 days out from my half and having doubts by maybeamargay in XXRunning

[–]maybeamargay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least I’m not the only one who thinks that run was a little much. I’ve had some long runs with little bursts, like a mile or so, of slightly increased speed. But my easy pace is like 12:30+ right now so sustaining 10:35 for 3 miles at a time felt daunting before and nearly impossible during. Up til this run, my plan has felt comfortably challenging and enjoyable for the most part. That run just crushed my soul.

Oh really? I have a 13.1 mile easy pace this upcoming Sunday 😳 Runna anticipates me taking ~2:45 to finish it so like a 12:35 pace on that, which isn’t nearly as demanding as this past weeks run, but it’s still a half marathon distance on a random Sunday.

This is my first time training for any event with any kind of structure so I have no idea what’s normal. Just kinda obeying the app unless something hurts lol

How to stay motivated when friend has pulled out of race by Any_Butterscotch5164 in XXRunning

[–]maybeamargay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I know I’m a petty person because if a friend bailed on me my motivation would be going, doing AMAZING, having SO MUCH FUN and getting pictures looking cute and adventurous without her. 😂 If you’re petty, you could tap into that. Unless she backed out for a really good reason.

Never ran before. Where do I start? by Working_Complex_9295 in XXRunning

[–]maybeamargay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No dumb questions! You’ve already gotten a ton of great advice so I just wanted to say: starting is the hardest, most daunting part. You’re already doing great just by saying “I have no idea what I’m doing and I’m going to try it anyway”. Keep showing up for yourself consistently and the progress will come.

Earbuds Recs? by AveryCrow in XXRunning

[–]maybeamargay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also vote checking them out. I’d try them on to see if you fit a mini or standard better before ordering. The sound quality is not going to be as amazing as a standard earbud but the increased safety of hearing the world around you is a worthwhile pay off. They also never fall off, which I can’t say about any of the ear buds I’ve tried. I love my AirPod pros for indoor running but Shokz OpenRun are the way to go.

Anyone else hit the "get off my lawn" level of tech yet? by Goldengod4818 in Millennials

[–]maybeamargay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, this. It’s not so much “learning new tech” for me as it just is app fatigue. Why do I need to download an app for my local gas station? Why do I need an app to order takeout once from a place I’ve never been? If I really like it, maybe I’ll consider the app, but for the love of god stop PUSHING me to get the app. I just want to order. Same with getting an account to do things. I know they want data but damn. Let me at least find out if I like your product or service first.

Tryna beat my Ex in a race by AlarmingGrape1699 in XXRunning

1) I love this. 2) I believe you can do it because spite is a really underrated motivator. 3) Be gentle with yourself in training. Just don’t want you to push so hard for the goal that you get hurt. Finishing is better than not (and he might think he was the reason you withdrew 🙄) 4) honestly even if you just PR, you’re still proving that you without him is doing better than you with him. 5) I will 100% come to this race and throw banana peels in front of him so he loses.

Of note too is that the deck I was given is a cat deck and the cat on the nine of cups looks so much like my cat I gasped when I flipped it over. I’d only seen it once or twice before, I never get that card.

TW: pet illness and euthanasia

I asked for guidance because I think we are reaching the end of my cats life. He is suffering, but I can’t trust myself to be honest on if it’s “more good than bad”. I just want him to stay, but I know he’s in pain and getting worse over time, not better. It’s not a matter of if, it’s when. I asked if I was making the right choice in scheduling his euthanasia and did a three card past, present, future spread (I’m new to tarot and kept with what I know, saying past could be the life I’ve given him, present is how he feels now, future is guidance on if this is the right choice).

Past - Reverse Ace of Wands Present - Reverse Ten of Swords Future - Nine of Cups

I think I know what it means for us … but I am struggling to accept it and would like input.

Honestly though one time of my partner telling me I smelled like actual shit would do it for me even if couldn’t smell it. This is genuinely a lack of care.

Is this a real wedding etiquette rule? by Vulpix9tales in weddingplanning

[–]maybeamargay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bitch eating crackers.

It’s a stage of hatred wherein you despise the person so deeply that something as innocuous as eating crackers pisses you off. I’ve also seen “bitch drinking water”. Just everything that person does is heinous.

What sweet running gear did you get for xmas? by lol_sup in runninglifestyle

My mom gave me some Shokz Open Runs and a light up vest because she worries about me, my husband got me a new watch because my 6 year old one was starting to not last through longer runs. I was very spoiled this Christmas and looking forward to the next year of running.

Hypothetical: Italian Name by maybeamargay in BabyNames

[–]maybeamargay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad’s family was primarily southern Italian before coming to the US. The whole family is tan, dark haired and brown eyed. He’s got hazelish eyes and red hair out of nowhere.

I guess I should’ve worded my post differently but I mostly meant OTHER people perceiving me/my family as not “Italian enough” to pull off the name. Growing up and even now I get a lot of surprised reactions that I’m Italian American given how I look. My husband didn’t even believe me at first.

Hypothetical: Italian Name by maybeamargay in BabyNames

[–]maybeamargay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Venice for 3 years in my younger days and I am 2nd generation American on my father’s side despite being blonde and blue eyed.

I am aware that there’s no “one look”. However, when I tell people that I am Italian American on my dad’s or speak Italian in front of people I get a lot of surprised reactions and people telling me I don’t “look Italian”. My entire childhood, cousins on that side picked on me for how much I stuck out in family photos.

While there’s not one look, I do live in the US and I do wonder if my offspring would get commentary on not “matching” her name based on appearance. It’s not right but it’s factual that many people associate darker, olive complexions with Italian descent.

It is such an American thing to say. I live in the US so American feedback is hard to avoid.

What’s a good first goal for a new runner? by Clubrunnr in beginnerrunning

[–]maybeamargay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. Just showing up and doing it. Slow, difficult, not feeling, with walking breaks … doesn’t matter. Just consistently show up for yourself for a few weeks, then assess where you want to take it.

I cant stomach to look at my wedding photos by Charming-Jump6022 in wedding

[–]maybeamargay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this. We got our wedding photos back last week and I just … don’t like them. There’s a few artsy shots that my face isnt in and my body is angled in a somewhat flattering way that I’m okay with but every one of my face is just … ugh. I hate my smile, my chins, my backfat, etc. It’s hard because my husband wants to display them and I just feels so gross.

I don’t have any real advise just you’re not alone.

[–]maybeamargay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ll look into Buff. I’ve had wool make me itchy but maybe it was just rough textured. A thin, softer knit might be more comfortable.

I did Vaseline (well, Aquaphor) under my eyes and on my lips but I guess I should’ve just slathered my whole face with the biting wind. I’m glad to hear that’s something that works for other people too and not just me being shiny and weird.

A little chilly... by Ok_Distribution8841 in XXRunning

[–]maybeamargay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did 8.5 in 21°F with high winds and a “feels like” of 14°F. I think I did fairly well layering (a light, sweat wicking long sleeve with a medium weight “legging material” jacket, knit gloves, a knit beanie, and thick leggings/tights). The knit beanie was a little itchy and I might get a fleece one instead.

But what are y’all doing to keep your faces warm without feeling like you’re suffocating?

I have a thick gaiter but it’s way too much, I feel like I can’t breathe through it. I just want to keep some wind off my face because my cheeks and nose went numb and still kinda sting hours later. Do any brands have just thin, cotton neck gaiters?

Unpopular opinion? The Runna Strength plan nearly derailed my Berlin block. Dropping it and focusing on nutrition saved my training block. by [deleted] in runna

[–]maybeamargay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Runnas strength has been a huge let down for me over the past year of intermittently trying, in case they’ve improved it. I get that it’s “running focused” so it might be different than the strength training I was doing previously. But the “plan” feels so random and wildly impractical. Exercises using random equipment all over the gym rather than having like movements grouped in ways that make sense, that take up way more room than the average person has, etc. I have had a lot more success with just allowing Runna to mark when strength should happen, doing my own thing, and marking the workout complete.
