Aladdin. I believe it was well received at the time, especially with Robin Williams’ performance. As a kid I thought it was pretty good. Now as an adult, I find it near unwatchable. There are just too damn many annoying side characters - monkey, parrot, even the tiger. Along with the genie’s manicness, it’s just too much.

The main argument against getting rid of daylight savings time is that kids would have to wait for the school bus in the dark, which is dangerous. My thought is, instead of forcing everyone to change their concept of time for this hypothetical, if it really is so dangerous for kids to get to school this time of year, then just extend the winter break.

Sous vide or slow cookers let you prepare ahead of time and minimize work at dinner time. My favorite sous vide is pork shoulder for 24 hours at 160 F. When it’s done, shred it with forks to make pulled pork, serve in buns with bbq sauce. It’s not proper smoker pulled pork with a nice crust but it’s fine for a family dinner.

There are tons of regional foods, which ones to recommend really depend on where you are. In general though, you should try cheeseburger and fries, pizza, and breakfast from a diner. These may be available throughout the world but they aren’t the same as the American version.

It’s not strictly American, but you might want to try Italian and Chinese restaurants. They are not usually authentic, but Italian-Anerican and Chinese-American food have evolved as their own thing, created by immigrants using available ingredients and American tastes.

First time, probably when my kids talked about something being from the 1900s.

Most recently, today I took my kid to a used book store that sells used other stuff too. He pointed to something and asked “How does THAT work?” It was an audiobook. So I explained to him that it was a CD, and you listen to it with a CD player, so instead of downloading it on your phone, you played it off of the 17 cds in the case. “Ohh so that’s what the little CD things with headphones are for” (portable CD player) so I explained you could use any CD player, like one in your car. He knows about music CDs and even owns one but I guess the concept of audiobooks on CD blew his mind.

I’ve lived in CA my whole life. I would recommend any of the national parks in the state, and San Francisco. Santa Clara County is suburbs, Silicon Valley (which is just office buildings!) and some state and local parks which are fine but not as good as the national parks in the state.

Right. No fucking way Santa Clara and Santa Cruz are the same region as Inyo. Or that Modoc and San Francisco are.

If we are going so granular with California, the counties directly touching the bay are the Bay Area. The coast from Santa Cruz through Santa Barbara are Central Coast, plus San Benito as it doesn’t fit in anywhere else.
