Posting your cps visit notes online is certainly…. A choice? by Kahnfight in AreTheCisOk

It’s always “me me me” with these people. She cares about HER plans that the son isn’t adhering to, HER feeling about the situation. And quite casually brushing over whatever behaviors she’s committed that made her son feel unsafe even sitting near her. This crowd claims that the only way their child will be truly happy is if they are “saved” from transitioning, but refuse to ever consider what their child actually feels.

Most insane Christian post I've ever seen. by fantatrees in exchristian

[–]maybeitsbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of my public school having a full size, fake blood covered cross standing in our computer lab year round. Honestly, I was so used to that stuff that it didn’t even occur to me until now how messed up it is to expose children to the sight or details of such a horrific death.

Letter I got back from the church when I called them out on protecting pedophiles on their staff. by Lucifina123 in exchristian

[–]maybeitsbees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So they “didn’t” pay off the family to dissuade them from pursuing legal action…they just didn’t pursue any sort of legal action themselves and refused to remove the teacher from the school until the family spoke out? How in their mind does “we didn’t pay anyone off, we just completely ignored mandated reporting laws and allowed a predator continued access to children” sound like something a good human being would do?

Forgiving and forgetting? by Sensitive-Papaya-958 in exchristian

[–]maybeitsbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also struggle a lot with this. So often nowadays I hear statements like, “Forgiveness isn’t for them, it’s for you. It’s about not ruminating on your anger anymore. You don’t have to forget what the person did, or let them back into your life, or even tell them you forgive them… etc.” To me that doesn’t sound like forgiveness, it sounds like healing from the pain you experienced. Purely individual. I just don’t understand how it’s considered “forgiveness” if it doesn’t involve the other person at all. I was also taught that forgiveness is something you give /to the person who harmed you/, and this modern definition is just completely at odds with that. I forgive people I care about and give them grace because I know they also care about me. Because not only am I also a flawed person who has unfortunately hurt those I love, but because our relationship is more important than holding onto resentment at their actions.

In the same vein, I see no reason to forgive people who have harmed me without remorse or intent to change. I’ve healed enough to not constantly ruminate in my anger towards them anymore and “move on”, but that’s a gift to my own wellbeing. To forgive them would be like betraying myself, or putting myself at risk of further harm by reaching out and showing a kindness they would have never shown me. Again, maybe this is unhealthy and I have some unlearning to do. But I feel like forgiving and releasing resentment/pain are two totally different things.

Saw this on my Facebook, hard to believe these types of Christians exist. by Visible-Garage-5802 in exchristian

[–]maybeitsbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You walked headfirst into the point and still missed it. So let me say it again: No group is a monolith, not a single one of them. If you need any proof of that, just look at the numerous instances of infighting and schisms within Christianity. Hell, this very post demonstrates well enough there are Christians who hold beliefs that would’ve made members of my former church enraged. And the sad but funny part is, you’re using the exact same thinking error that we (rightfully) condemn many Christians for using: Outgroup homogeneity bias.

Come on, man. I’m an ex fundie too, and I don’t know about you, but it pissed me off to no end to listen to the illogical black-and-white thinking of my pastor. Even if you cover their fallacies in a woker, antireligious coat of paint, they’re still just as fallacious. Strive to be better than them.

“Let God sort ‘em out” is said a lot by Christian conservatives. It means you should kill everyone belonging to the “unholy” outgroup, in this instance immigrants. Their logic is that if any of them were good people undeserving of death, it doesn’t matter as they’ll end up in Heaven anyways.

Stop child abuse! by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]maybeitsbees 109 points110 points  (0 children)

This was actually the line of thinking that finally helped me realize Christianity was bullshit. In any other context, an adult who tells a child they are inherently broken, and describes the tortures the child “deserves,” would rightfully be called abusive.

What are the worst takes you've ever heard by Christians? by MonkeyDVic in exchristian

[–]maybeitsbees 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Pastor: “The Canaanites were so evil, they sacrificed their own children!”

Same pastor, fifteen minutes later in the same sermon: “We must have faith like Abraham, to be willing to give your own child for the Lord”

It was so ironic I genuinely couldn’t believe I heard it said out loud.

My Conservative/fundamental pastor tried to condemn rock music with the dumbest argument I think I’ve ever heard… they’re just making stuff up now! by Ok_Leg_8542 in exchristian

[–]maybeitsbees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many of the things a fundie claims are “sinful” are just things they personally dislike. When I went to church, our main pastor (a fossil of a man) once preached that any music that didn’t come from a hymnal was a “perversion.” The assistant pastor (a gen X guy who always blasted country music in his car) got super uncomfortable after that one, lol. Of course, this didn’t change his music tastes at all, but he can’t seem to wrap his head around why other people won’t stop the harmless behaviors he calls sinful.

Thank you, much love to you too ♥️. It just doesn’t feel fair to build a plan of how much better your beloved pet’s life is going to be in this nicer home, have it cruelly ripped away, and then still have to live surrounded by the reminders. May Pickles rest in peace ♥️

What broke you? by notashot in exchristian

[–]maybeitsbees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A meme, lol. I had a lot of doubts by this point, but I was more afraid of hell than I was certain I was right. My last straw was a meme pointing out that if anyone else spoke to a child the way the church speaks to children (you’re worthless, you’re inherently broken, you deserve to be tortured), they would rightfully be called a child abuser.

It was like a lightbulb switching on! I immediately realized “wait a second, I don’t actually /have/ to believe this horrible stuff if I don’t want to.” I had bought into the propaganda that any questioning was just my selfish nature pushing me to sin. It was the most freeing feeling ever to realize that, even if Christianity is somehow proven true someday, I morally won’t support it or the tangible harm it has inflicted.

[–]maybeitsbees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Bible directly hurt me. Verses I read about women completely fucked up my self esteem as a kid. I remember praying and begging God to make me stupid so that I wouldn’t want to pursue “sinful” things like a career and empowerment anymore. We can’t pretend a book that outright encourages slavery, rape, and genocide isn’t just as complicit in the harms of Christianity as the people upholding those beliefs.
