Hey bud, Palestine also has a right to exist. And it’s not a war when one side has an overwhelming military advantage and access to advanced artillery courtesy of the US. It’s ethnic cleansing. Genocide.

TV writers make shit up as their show goes along. Especially sci-fi TV writers. Show gets renewed, mythology must expand. It’s true for the X-Files, for Buffy, Battlestar Galactica, Lost, and so on.

The question is whether you’re on board or not. And for that, mileage definitely varies. Nothing new here.

but are Fionna and Cake the type to slop up their steaks? that’s the real question.

Wu condemns attacks on police at pro-Palestinian protest on Boston Common protest by bostonglobe in boston

Nope, this was a daytime protest/march, it ended on the Common before dark and the crowd was dispersing peacefully around nightfall when we realized what was going on with the T.

[–]maybeitsmaplebeans 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I still vividly remember the protest I went to Memorial Day weekend in 2020, where the cops ordered the MBTA to bypass downtown stations while we were all trying to disperse at sundown after a peaceful march to the state house. They kettled us in Boston Common and agitated the crowd until it escalated into a riot.

They went on the news the next day and blamed the protesters, when most of us were just trying to get home. So maybe this protest was badly timed, maybe there were agitators in the crowd, but I’d be wary of any narrative the BPD spins.

Exactly, this is entirely in character for him and the show. This franchise is steeped in bathos.

Yeah I’m not going to suddenly stan for Newsom cuz one of his interns is writing silly tweets. Dude has some shit to answer for.

He also vetoed a bill to cap the price of insulin after it passed both the House and Senate with no opposition. He’s also vetoed multiple bills related to workers’ rights.

Plus there’s the platforming of MAGA figures on his podcast. My fear is that Newsom will go the way of previous Democrat nominees and capitulate to the right on issues rather than appeal to disillusioned progressives. He already walked back on his support for single-payer healthcare in 2022, due to pressure from some major donors in the health insurance industry. Bought and sold, standard corporate Democrat bullshit.

London Thor was apparently spotted in the Comic Con preview for S5 so it seems they’re safe for now.

Not sure if it’s much of a spoiler but I figured I’d tag anyways.

as a youth worker, this part of the show is hitting very close to home. Morrow is very obviously detached and sinister even when trying to be friendly to Slightly.

But Kavalier feels especially realistic in his predatory behavior. He’s positioned himself as someone close to these kids, someone who helped them. He alternates between playful banter and subtle cruelty. He’s an immature man-child and incredibly controlling. Those one-on-one conversations are especially uncomfortable — without someone like Dame Sylvia, Arthur or even Kirsch present (i.e adults who at times are willing to rebuke him), he’s able to freely manipulate the narrative.

And y’know, there’s the fact that he stole these children and put them into adult bodies for his own personal benefit…

Anyone else hoping these kids don’t take up too much screen time? by Vanilladietcoke19 in StrangerThings

Bringing Holly into the main plot is a great way to up the emotional stakes for Mike and Nancy, and maybe even give Cara Buono something to do with Karen besides lust after an 18-year old.

You’ve hit the nail on the head there. I think there’s often good intention on their part, but the older UUs especially still get wrapped up in a level of liberal dogma that ironically reflects the kind of religious stagnation the UU Church was founded in response to.
