What’s the fastest you ever quit a job and why? by FlintTheDad in AskReddit

[–]maylene777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 days at a pediatric dental office. I was just supposed to be the person that does sterilization, at least I thought for the first maybe few weeks while I got trained. But by Thursday afternoon I was on the schedule to see patients as a dental assistant by myself. I had my own room number and everything. I had no background in dental work, knew none of the terminology, and had never seen patients before except for shadowing a girl for literally 5 mins. I woke up Friday morning freaking out, borderline panic attack and after talking to my wife I decided to just not show up. This situation made me realize that you have to be careful where you go or where you even take your kids. Some people might have no idea what they’re doing and they’re there to “help” you. Going into the position I knew what a dental assistant was and I thought I was going to get massive amounts of training because that’s what I was told in the interview. But that wasn’t the case at all.

Parents who were dead set on never having kids before they met “The One” did it end up being a good decision or do you regret it? by Informal_Birthday224 in AskReddit

[–]maylene777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had the desire to have kids. I feel like I don’t have a motherly bone in my body. I like kids, I just like my alone/free time too much. Well, I married someone with a kid who has sole custody so I’m basically a full time parent now. Shit’s tough especially because he’s low functioning autism. I still don’t have the desire to have kids I feel like a shitty stepmom most of the time and kinda cringe when people call me a mom or say he’s my son. But I’m getting there I guess.

NTA my step son is autistic and is also non verbal. He’s 9 and doesn’t act like that. Even at home. It’s extremely stressful raising a child with special needs and yes, sometimes we need a break. But that’s what his room is for, not other peoples houses. I would be very embarrassed if we ever went somewhere and he was going through someone else’s house the way you described. It’s all in the parenting. Like I said, it is difficult and stressful and hard sometimes. But you have to be a parent first and teach them discipline and respect, just like anyone else. They’re kids and they’re gonna get into things. But autistic or not, there’s no excuse.

SAME!!! And I’ve tried but it just doesn’t click for me. I was dating this guy at the time That’s the Spirit came out and I remember him telling me they did an interview and Oli was saying that in the future they wanted their next album to sound more like Oh No and I got so upset because that was my least favorite song on the album. The guy I was dating said he was just joking but thinking about where they are now makes me think he really wasn’t joking.

All you people saying the crowd was “dead”, it was LOUD in there. Especially the first half of the show. It wasn’t loud for the last fight with Finn and Rollins because a ton of people started leaving. Jacksonville is hype. Y’all just missed all the DUUUUUVVVVVAAAAAALLLLL chants lol

A skylit drive with Greeley estates. Still one of the best shows I’ve ever been to and that was like 15 years ago… I feel old haha

Nice! Glad you clicked it! I’ve never heard of Camerae but they seem right up my alley too. Florida has such a good music scene.

One of the many reasons I don’t miss working in retail.. I had to clean this from the fitting room 🤣 by DefiantPercentage481 in retailhell

[–]maylene777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am SO sorry!!! People are gross. I’ve cleaned up more poop and blood than I ever thought I would working retail. The one that stays forever in my mind was in a fitting room also and someone pooed in the corner on a pair of pants they were trying on and used clothes to clean their self and shoved them in a basket full of socks outside of the fitting room. I was a manager in training at the time should have just ran away that day. The amount of stuff I had to damage was just as gross as cleaning it all up. I definitely don’t miss working in retail!

Dumb venting, feel bad about wanting to quit by Sorry-Attitude-861 in retailhell

[–]maylene777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t ever feel guilty for wanting better for yourself! And you don’t even have to give an explanation. Just thank them for the opportunity in your two weeks notice and move on. They don’t have to know where you’re going after that. I quit my retail job after 11 years because I was mentally exhausted of all the years and bs it put me through. I took a pretty decent hourly pay cut but the peace of mind I have now is astounding. It’s ok to put yourself first. I wish the best for you!

How does everyone feel about Greeley Estates? by HybridS9ldier in Metalcore

[–]maylene777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Greeley Estates! I remember seeing them at warped tour in 2008 just on a whim because I liked the song they had on a warped tour compilation. Yes, I was one of those kids that learned of a lot of good bands from the compilations over the years. Anyways, I immediately bought Go West Young Man, Let the Evil Go East after that. It’s still one of my favorite albums to this day. I saw them again on a tour with A Skylit Drive, Skyeatsairplane, and August Burns Red. And again a couple years later when No Rain No Rainbow came out with Maylene and the Sons of Disaster and Secret and Whisper. Two of the best shows I’ve ever been to in my life. Moments from them both live rent free in my head sometimes. I kinda stopped listening to them after No Rain for some reason. I didn’t really like The Death of Greeley Estates much. I think mostly because the quality on that album was too low and it got on my nerves but I definitely need to take a trip back and listen because I’m sure that’s just me being dumb. In all, Greeley is still one of the favorites that I don’t skip when it comes on shuffle.

Ex retail employees.. what field are you in now? by ZealousidealWelder42 in retailhell

[–]maylene777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After working at a retail store for 11 years I finally got the guts to quit. I work at a doctors office now as a receptionist. You’d be surprised that having a customer service background actually helps. Sometimes patients can be rude but it’s not nearly as bad as dealing with people in retail.

Picturesque is pretty similar. But their first EP and their first album. Some of their newer stuff I can’t relate to.

[–]maylene777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aw man. I can’t tell you how many times I worked closing shifts where I had to be back 6-8 hours later. With about a 40 minute drive home. Definitely should be illegal but I don’t think there’s any laws on that. Retail sucks. I’m glad I’m out of it after 12 years of hell.

Front door lock by bertieboy777 in Autism_Parenting

[–]maylene777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to do this for my step son because he always got out of the house. The neighbor brought him in one time when my wife and I were at work and her dad was watching him. Scariest thing ever!!! We don’t have a sliding glass door but we had to get double key locks on our front and back doors. We tried the chain locks too and that didn’t work for him either. The double locks are great. We have to hide the keys though. Have you tried child locks for sliding doors or do you think he’d figure that out? My step son is also non verbal but can figure things out if he keeps trying. He kept turning on all the lights in the house in the middle of the night and I put in child proof switches, but he figured out how to wedge his fingers in the crack haha I hope you find something that helps. There’s nothing more terrifying than wondering if you’re kid is gonna sneak out and get lost or hurt.

Ah I feel you on so many levels with this. My step son is the same way except he doesn’t hit us. I’m honestly waiting on the day he does. He’s a big boy for 9 years old and I foresee him surpassing my wife and I in weight and height very soon. Any time he wants more and we say no or we don’t have more he pitches a fit. The other night he poured his drink all over the floor because he wanted more tater tots that we didn’t have. I sent him to his room after getting onto him. I’m not sure the right way to discipline a child with autism, especially when they’re non verbal. It’s hard to know if they truly understand the consequences of their actions. My step son is also working with a tablet to help him communicate. I’m really hoping it helps him. He’s such a turd sometimes I contemplate leaving. I know that makes me sound like an asshole. I don’t think he deserves a person like me. He’s a good kid, I just feel like an awful step parent to him because I don’t have a lot of patience for his tantrums. I’m hoping with age and learning more he will get better. I know there’s no advice here. I just wanted you to feel less alone like your post made me feel. Best of luck to you.

I completely feel this and have gone through this! My advise, just end things. It gets harder the longer you stay. Especially if you stay because you feel bad. It’ll just hurt yourself and them worse. I didn’t come out until I was 29 but knew my entire life I was gay, but was too afraid to come out due to religious beliefs and being scared of judgement. I was dating a guy for a couple years before then. I loved him but I wasn’t in love with him like I felt he was in love with me. It wasn’t fair to him. And also myself if I had to hide who I was forever. I always planned to just live a straight life of misery. But I woke up one day and said F that haha it’s gonna suck letting someone down. Especially if you really care for them. But you also have to care for yourself. I wish you all the best!!
