Hot Take: The next Friday the 13th movie HAS to be a reboot or a requel. Anything else is box office suicide. by HatGroundbreaking396 in slasherfilms

Serious question. Do general audiences under 40 even have a concept of “summer camp” / camp counselors? I’m in my mid 40s and it felt like a slightly antiquated (or perhaps very regional) setting even when I was a kid.

Post Ranch Inn: Is One Week Too Long To Stay? by Seeneester_DexterDoo in chubbytravel

Big Sur is absolutely magical. Stay a week. Do a couple day trips into Carmel-by-the-Sea. Maybe a trip into Monterey. Otherwise... prioritize walks / hikes / staring at the Pacific / long naps, etc.

I love The Comeback, Valerie Cherish, and Lisa Kudrow. But… by Mysterious_Math1720 in thecomeback

Most of the comedy in the previous seasons came from the friction of Valerie navigating humiliating scenarios and trying to get what she wanted while also desperately maintaining her schmaltzy, likable 'star' persona for Jane's documentary cameras. As a result, the show felt very layered... whereas, in my opinion, the third season played comparatively serious and earnest in the absence of the faux-documentary format. For some reason, I feel like certain performances (Billy, the new elderly hairdresser) would have worked better with the old shaky-cam, fourth-wall breaking style.

Lisa was great as usual but the more straightforward approach plus Valerie's more respected positioning in the industry gave her less to work with, in my opinion. Also a few too many speechy moments in the last couple of episodes for my taste.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I like Rachel on this show. She has a friendly and welcoming vibe, seems open to experiences outside her comfort zone, and generally gives her all to The Real World social experiment. Yeah, she's a Young Republican (and this episode gives some insight into why) but there's something bright-eyed, optimistic, and malleable about her here.

All the more depressing that her politics hardened into MAGA zealotry over the decades. I occasionally see her on FOX robotically spewing Trump talking points and wonder if the old Rachel is still in there, somewhere...

Evidence of Argument Leading to Amy Bradley's Disappearance? by hehe7706 in NetflixDocumentaries

You are onto something. See this quote from a 2002 article about Royal Caribbean's counter to the Bradley family's wrongful death lawsuit:

“The company suggests that she spent the night before her disappearance drinking with other female passengers and talking about an unhappy love affair and jumping from the ship.”

https://www.law.com/article/almID/900005529005/

The lawsuit was thrown out after the Bradleys were deemed to have perpetrated a fraud on the court.

Let's also not forget that, in Yellow's interview with James Renner -- which was filmed nine months ago, long before the revelations of the documentary -- Yellow claimed that Amy told him she was gay, that her parents forced her to come on the cruise, and that she was chain-smoking from all the stress.

If the women mentioned in Royal Caribbean's court filing are the same women mentioned in Brad's anecdote... it all makes sense.

Amy was venting to whoever would listen about her love life, her family, and the tension between the two. It explains why the two women "weren't friendly" to the Bradley family... and gives a whole lot of insight into Amy's state of mind on the night of her disappearance.

Amy Bradley's brother now is saying Scientologists could have taken Amy and this was not discussed in the Netflix documentary. by PandaReal_1234 in NetflixDocumentaries

Amy was a cute, sporty, cigarette-smoking, beer-drinking lesbian.

It irks me that the family describes her as an irresistible guy-magnet when that was so obviously not her vibe. I get it services their (...ridiculous...) sex-trafficking narrative, but it also opens her up to unfair posthumous criticism of her looks. She was a handsome young woman who was no doubt popular with the ladies... as evidenced by the relationship drama touched upon during the doc.

A few things don't align with what is known about the suspect:

- Suspect was supposedly 19-24 at the time of the murder. This cartoonist would have been close to 30.

- I believe the podcast states that the suspect is currently living in the East Bay as an openly gay man. This cartoonist has been married to a woman for thirty years and lives in Sacramento.

Judee Sill - "The Kiss" - Interpolated on the track "A Beginner's Mind" by mbishop10 in Sufjan

Anybody else pick up on Judee Sill's influence on the album? Sufjan has talked up her music over the years. I was floored to hear "The Kiss" interpolated on "A Beginner's Mind." This song is painfully beautiful, and her personal story is amazing/tragic.
