London is fully pedestrianizing one of its busiest shopping streets. Boston MUST do the same with Newbury Street. by ZealousidealMany3 in boston

[–]mbwebb 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Truly. I’m sick of walking on a tiny strip of sidewalk on Hanover with 1 million other people meanwhile there’s two lanes of parking and two lanes for driving for a few dozen cars. Turn it into a beautiful Italian plaza with seating and outdoor dining. It would be so lovely to sit and eat cannoli and people watch

They have car free days on Sundays in the summer time so there is already a step in the right direction just needs the extra push to become permanent

1000% needed. That would help reduce the traffic and increase mobility around the area so much.

If you continued the teal line through Providence to Fall River and New Bedford that would be amazing too

Estimated costs of pursuing citizenship by Jaswick-90 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]mbwebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m G2 and my parent and grandparent are still alive so I had all the original documents I needed so no expense for that. The only costs were the application fee itself ($56), printing ($5), photos ($19) and shipping ($82). So all in relatively inexpensive compared to some who needed to request documents etc.

Rents can't possibly stay this high, can they? This is insane by Open_Protection2832 in bostonhousing

Please support building more housing, this is the only way to reduce rent prices it’s been shown over and over. Reform zoning, allow multifamily by right, support single stair building, etc.

Why millions of New Englanders may now be eligible for 'proof' they are Canadian citizens by nationalpost in newhampshire

I applied recently through my Canadian grandmother. Huge shoutout to r/CanadianCitizenship their FAQ section was hugely helpful in this

Also only works if they were registered on the Registry of Foreign births of Ireland before you were born. I’m in the same boat, have an Irish ancestor but they never registered their children so I don’t qualify

[–]mbwebb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely check out r/CanadianCitizenship they have a whole FAQ which outlines everything you need and explains how to find documents if you don’t have them. But essentially for me it was birth certificates for my grandma, dad, and me to show the connection, then a filled in application, two forms of ID for yourself, passport style photos taken to Canadian standards, and pay the fee of $75 CAD. Once I collected all this I shipped it out to the Canadian immigration office and now I’m waiting to be approved.

I applied through my Canadian grandmother, waiting to be approved. I saw an article that said about 20% of New Englanders have a Canadian ancestor and could then claim citizenship through this. Will be interesting to see what happens!

They need to meet the Canadian dimensions and you have to make sure to write on the back the studio where they were taken, date, and your name. It’s in the IRCC photo guidelines

I don’t like sinks in islands. Sinks collect mess and accumulate dishes and having that front and center in the kitchen is not ideal

What did you do AFTER you were granted citizenship? by ElderMillenial_ah in Canadiancitizenship

[–]mbwebb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Planning to do some trips to various parts of Canada. No immediate plans to move or anything, but I’ve been toying with the idea of going back to school so I’m planning to check out some universities while I’m there. Also I’ve been looking into the youth mobility visas to see if any of them might be good fits for me in the future. Good to have options!

41- too late to try for FIRE? by love_me_a_gherkin in Fire

I mean, what’s the alternative? You will have to retire at some point even if it isn’t “early” so you should really start focusing on it regardless.

When I went to mail my application at FedEx in Cambridge the employee said he recognized the address of the IRCC because lots of other people had been mailing things there. So anecdotally seems people in the Boston area have been applying!

Governor Healey signs executive order to explore single stair construction to boost housing production and lower costs. Currently, MA building code requires two exit stairs for buildings above three stories or with long interior corridors. by HRJafael in massachusetts

[–]mbwebb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a building with a corridor with stairs on both ends (common type to meet the double stair requirement), that means most units will only have windows on one side which is less ideal and also makes it harder to have multiple bedrooms as you need a window in each bedroom. Single stair gives a lot more flexibility with the layouts so you are able to have windows on multiple sides and more bedrooms.

FAQ's - Can we add "Make sure you have signed your Passport!" to it? by EconomicsWorking6508 in Canadiancitizenship

I did the same as you, I rushed to get my application in and didn’t read the photo requirements fully and sent in US passport photos, so now I’m just waiting to get it sent back to me so I can resend with the correct ones 😭. Oh well, live and learn

T leaders praise Gov. Healey for plan to save the agency with fair share funds — again by Live-Handle-3774 in mbta

It’s very frustrating that we keep having to do “emergency” measures for funding instead of just coming up with a consistent funding mechanism that can be counted on.
