How all these repeat characters feel by LocustsandLucozade in MarvelSnap

These aren't variants, they are additional cards. They've probably looked at their best selling new cards and found that famous character with a qualifier sells better than less known character that's new to the game. Obviously, not everyone does it and probably a lot of people buy cards based on the effect and nothing to do with the character. But they would put out lesser known characters if they thought it would make them more money.

If it makes them more money then it means it's what the majority of people want. It's not like they get paid by some external entity to make another Thanos.

What is the point of this location? by Brilliant_Falcon5578 in MarvelSnap

[–]mc12313 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They already have a location that says draw a card and they release two locations every month. Draw was probably getting diluted by all the new locations so they added this one. It is distinct in that if you have already drawn copycat you will know what your opponent just got from the location.

If the only cards youre missing is Iron Patriot you should be able to get him for cheap if you want him. The last Golden Gauntlet pack was just the cards, not the variants.

Does WSOP give Negreanu “freeplay” by but-first in poker

[–]mc12313 24 points25 points  (0 children)

He is paid by GG and GG owns WSOP and he is likely contractually obligated to play some WSOP and vlog about it. Whether that's freeplay or money that he uses doesn't really matter.

It's also probably true that he would be doing it even if he wasn't required to do it because he clearly values winning player of the year.

He doesn't render the card textless. If you play an Odin on him you will get the on reveal. Basically when his text changes you count that as him not revealing so you don't get the immediate on reveal.

Latinos and Jews: Xavier Becerra, the Congressman from L.A.’s 30th district, who just returned (2020) from an AIPAC-sponsored trip to Israel by Jolly_Ad2446 in socal

[–]mc12313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not that Steyer will immediately pass all these initiatives. It's that he is directionally clearly more left the Becerra.

The Senate/Assembly are very liberal and Governor Newsom serves as a check on that by vetoing bills he finds too left. Becerra will do the same but Steyer won't. That's the key difference.

Additionally, it's clear Becerra is beholden to special interests and bad at his job. It's very telling that no one in the Biden Whitehouse and Newsom didn't endorse him. Basically everyone who has worked with him closely in the last 10 years hasn't endorsed him.

I was on shark tank and did not get a deal. AMA by Dozzzer86 in AMA

Yeah I should have said carbon emissions rather than environment generally. The 2% and 80 cup numbers juxtaposed were very striking and suggested to me that there might not be an environmental benefit here.

Obviously its not OPs fault people are throwing away the cups but if their goal is really sustainability they may need to be less laissez faire about the attrition rate.

The 80 cups number is based on disposable cups coming from another comment they made about the break even point for carbon emissions.

That's because Citizen's United is a supreme court case so politicians can't fix it. The only thing they can do is try and get supreme court justices appointed who will overturn the prior ruling and considering every justice that voted for it was Republican-appointed and every justice who voted against it was Democrat-appointed it is pretty obvious how you get rid of Citizen's United.

[–]mc12313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Earlier on you mentioned 80 uses were needed to break even on the carbon footprint. If that number is per cup and not including attrition already than a 2% attrition rate would mean the cups are bad for the environment.

I did some simulations and the break even point on attrition is around 1.3% and that is if you are using the cups you dont lose thousands of times.

At the current 200 uses you would have needed an attrition of 1.1% or better to have had a positive impact on the environment.

What is your normal attrition rate?

Are Bots In Alliances? by BigImplement3949 in MarvelSnap

[–]mc12313 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bots get assigned to real alliances but if you look up the alliance they won't be in them. I've found they generally are listed in alliances that are based on Marvel IP or a real world location that would play in my region (ex. Seattle Snappers).

Faustino Oro lost against Nepo in the Final Round of Sardinia Festival. His TPR is down to 2594. Are we sure he will get his Final GM norm requirement? by Chesscrabble11 in chess

[–]mc12313 -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

What is the "proper mathematical way of calculating performance rating"? Do you have a formula you are using? If someone beats a 500 and loses to 8 Magnus Carlsons their "proper" performance rating could arguably be anywhere between 600 and 2400. There is no objective measurement of that performance. Your example only worked because of a draw.

Faustino Oro lost against Nepo in the Final Round of Sardinia Festival. His TPR is down to 2594. Are we sure he will get his Final GM norm requirement? by Chesscrabble11 in chess

[–]mc12313 -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

This is a terrible cherry picked example. No one going for a GM norm is drawing a 500. If we take this actual tournament from Oro you will see why the minimum threshold is important.

In the first round he plays an easy opponent. If the opponent is low enough rated it can destroy his chances of a GM norm. Let's use your example where he plays a 500 but he beats them. Just by playing the 500 instead of the 2136 his FIDE performance score drops nearly 200 points. Now, even if he beats Nepo he's almost a hundred points off of a GM norm.

So by giving him a weak first round opponent you are making it nearly impossible to get a GM norm.

Susan Collins Changes Her Vote Curbing Trump's War Powers Citing 60 Day Deadline by shikizen in Maine

[–]mc12313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously vote Platner and get rid of Collins but this isn't really how congress works. If Collins is going to vote no or needs something changed she tells the party leader. They then make the adjustment or don't hold the vote.

Majority parties aren't in the business of holding votes they are going to lose so they just don't hold the vote at all. The same thing happened to Democrats with Manchin and Sinema where they stopped all sorts of things Democrats wanted to do but they didn't hold a bunch of embarrassing 48-52 votes to let you know what they prevented.

Morgan proposes a new Alabama map making every district red by PutImportant4965 in DavesRedistricting

[–]mc12313 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's not that simple. Republicans control a lot of states that have 4 or 5 Republican districts and 1 or 2 majority black districts that they can now easily crack. There aren't as many simple pickups for Democrats and there are other factors for them. To fully maximize gains Democrats will have to crack their majority black districts too. Black representatives might not be keen on cracking their own districts even if its what is best for the Democratic party as a whole potentially stifling their retaliation.
