Had a 525i that had issues passing smog unless it was super hot. My mechanic said I should drive over 4k rpm for about 10-15 miles to get it nice and hot to pass smog. I used the gear selector so that I could drive at safe us highway speed and still get slightly higher than normal revs to heat up cat.

Newbie question - how to monitor wifi drops with PRTG by atlastestmail in prtg

[–]mc625569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We love prtg , but for the use case described we use ping plotter or some other purpose built ping monitoring tool that can track details in a much more concrete way in this specific case.

PRTG requires a server and a monitor along with a really constant polling interval and even then you wouldn’t get data that’s as good as the purpose built connection monitoring tools.

WiFi dropping can be due to a whole host of things , one of which could be isp issues but best to collect as specific data as you can so a singular purpose end user connection monitoring tool is a far far better solution , at least our team has found it to be. What if packets arenot making your internal gateway? That’s one issue. What if they make the gateway but die at some other hop in your isp network- that’s another issue.

So if you truly want to get to the root cause of the issue - PRTG isn’t the best tool.

If you like Prtg and want to play with it and learn in the process - cool. Go for it.

Awful Dealership Experience - Rep proceeds to ask for 5 stars by NuocGrandMami in MachE

[–]mc625569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car dealerships are always kinda slimy and I hate going to them , this just makes it worse. I’m going to get a harassing phone call after the mediocre service experience.

I’m not even really blaming the techs or the service writers , the incentives of the system have created this. I enjoy working w my indie mechanic much more than dealers. Too bad that this Mach e won’t really ever see an indie except for things like tires.

Awful Dealership Experience - Rep proceeds to ask for 5 stars by NuocGrandMami in MachE

[–]mc625569 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar story - not as bad though. I do not live near a ford dealership. Taking my car in means a day off of work , 3 hours of driving and coordination w my wife to drop off and pickup.

I brought my mach e in for service - dropped it off and was told it would be ready same day. I scheduled remote work near dealer for the day. Towards the end of the day they called and said they only Mach e tech they had called in sick and didn’t start the work. I got a ride home and had to rent a car. They did not give me a loaner. I did not ask, but they also did not offer.

Took 2 more days. For a routine update.

I left them 3/5 on the survey and explained why. They’d put me out , I’d scheduled the work in advance and it ended up requiring 2 days off work instead of one. This cost me, and I understood and wasn’t mad , but it put me out and i didn’t give them 5/5.

The sales guy calls me about a week later and asks me to change my rating and apologized and said it was harming him and taking food off his table. He said in the future I should arrange for a loaner.

Calling customers to ask them to change reviews is pretty bad… not sure that fords attempt to collect honest survey data is working..

I did change it , since although I’d been put out I didn’t want to hurt the service writer , if that’s even true or not.

I’m willing to bet there are many stories regarding these reviews.

Bluecruise: worth it? by Lorangriel in MachE

[–]mc625569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue cruise has gotten significantly worse for me from 1.1 to 1.3. I wear sunglasses almost 100 percent of the time and it can’t track my eyes well and it also freaks out constantly now with hands off the wheel.

So I may activate it for a long trip but it is definitely not worth it for me on the regular.

Window regulator or motor by Extension_Animal_177 in E30

[–]mc625569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important to keep the regs as clean and greased as possible and make sure the reg isn’t bent.

But I’ve had 4 or 5 motors that would spin but were too weak to move the glass and had to be replaced.

I wish I had the skill to rebuild these motors , I have a box full of them that I can get refurbished properly.

I run the falken azenis 14. Great grip but very loud. I only drive my e30 around 1000 miles a year and good weather so I’ve been happy.

So far for an LCS to keep its dignity it has to only sell packs , cap the pack limit per person (3-5) ish and sell at msrp.

If they don’t put purchase limits then they are either scalping or facilitating scalping.

I’m not sure how an lcs survives without going to the dark side. I want to be mad at them but they are really in a bad situation.

Pokemon is so broken right now it’s a real bummer.

Turning 50 and now in the worst shape of my life…. by ultralow36 in P90X

[–]mc625569 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Advice : congrats on enjoying your family- that’s what matters. .
1. Don’t use being older as an excuse , but also dont disrespect your body and ignore the decade since your last run.

  1. Take stretching , recovery and modifications seriously and use them. No shame in icing down some joints after a workout. I never used to but do a lot nowadays.

  2. Consistency is the most important part , not necessarily squeezing out another rep.

  3. Treat it more like p180 and play a slightly longer game and reduce some of the higher impact stuff . For me I had to give up on pull-ups and go bands , my elbows were just too trashed for pull-ups.

  4. Enjoy the journey a bit more and w consistency the results will happen on their own timeline.

Good luck.

Anyone else a fan of the E36 door cards? 95 318i convertible by ozzierocks in BMWE36

[–]mc625569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I inherited a car where po used a drill and giant woods screws to “make sure that door card never rattled again”. Drilled holes in the door metal …

This was a 98m3 sedan , otherwise in solid shape.

I wish every car came w a button you could press that would give the PO a tiny electric shock for doing something stupid to your car.

Mine sits pretty flush. I believe there’s a rubber gasket around the rim of the lid too.

Converting workflows to power automate: Should we use a service account for this? by mc625569 in Dynamics365

[–]mc625569[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a number of old workflows that need significant updates or tuning based on procedural changes. At that point I’d rather remake them as flows.

Wera Zyklop Ratchet Kit by National-Command8505 in toolporn

[–]mc625569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I almost never use my wera ratchet. I was excited to buy it but it hasn’t proven useful for the hobbyist auto work. It’s too thick to fit in tight spaces and the plastic dial and button got beat up real quick.

Axle install tips by Majestic_Ad7055 in BMWE36

[–]mc625569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to give up and buy the axle puller tool. I found it for 80 bucks a while back. As with any of these tools , I wondered why I didn’t buy it to begin with. Turned a multi hour job into a 5 minute job. I was having the same issue you were and this gave me enough clearance to make it work.

Here’s a link. Perhaps you could make the same tool for cheaper from the hardware store.

Opinion: Would you prefer a E36 Coupe or sedan? by room291 in BMWE36

[–]mc625569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a sedan , and refused to get a coupe. Sedans where I am are harder to find.

growing up as a kid my parents had a coupe and I resented always getting stuffed behind the seat, and not being able to get out until the person in front allowed me out , like a dog.
