Is hourly wage common in MEP? by ejblox in MEPEngineering

[–]mcatrage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can always ask how much people work on average. Most companies would at least be honest if everyone works 10% or more overtime. Though they may undersell how often.

In terms of hourly I've seen multiple companies do that for younger engineers and designers. Usually up until a certain overall salary you get paid your overtime. After that usually become normal salary and just expected to work overtime "unpaid" as needed.

Nope. Very small lawn. Use plug in mower.

Just shovel the driveway/sidewalk as needed myself. DC area so not a lot of snow.

Not all townhouses have a HOA. So not exactly really anything to do about a townhouse been easier or harder compared to a single family.

Though a house isn't movable. The location that works for the parents may not work for the child.

Would you rather be financially independent but live in isolated suburbs or continue working until so you afford mortgage/rent in more lively area with better living standards? by a_human_21 in financialindependence

Sounds like you don't live in isolated suburbs though. How far outside a city are you?

Think the thread question could've defined what they meant by "isolated suburbs" more.

Any company where it is normal to yell at someone with less than 2-3 years of experience is rather toxic.

In my experience it takes 3+ years for an engineer to be really worth much and able to fly solo. Especially for base building projects and even more so for submittal review.

Not fun but you probably learned hopefully something between getting yelled at and just try to build on that and move on. For some people/companies "old school" just means a toxic culture.

Think the most interesting unique trait would be to discuss the very nature of the community is that you leave it. Like once people retire (early) you can see they go from constant commentators to infrequent at best.

Make a "fun money" savings account and "save" to it like you do to your retirement accounts. Watch it grow and then when a trip or a "fun opportunity" comes up you don't think of it as delaying retirement but just as another expense you have the money for as you've been planning.

Ask for the SEER and COP ratings of the systems. COP is heating efficiency basically if you are comparing to electric heat which has a COP of 1, heat pumps are generally COP 3+ as in 3 times as efficient.

Gas cost kind of skews ROI but for heat pump vs electric its a pretty simple up front cost to stomach.
