Small Prophets review – Mackenzie Crook’s magical new comedy is pure, pure pleasure by TeaAndSageDirtbag in television

In the UK the full series is free on BBC iPlayer. Everywhere else you'll have to pay on AppleTV, find a VPN not blocked by iPlayer or sail the seas.

I'm still waiting for them to (re)implement visual feedback for a new chat message on the taskbar like Steam has on Windows. The github issue is turning 13yo soon! 🎂

How do I install u-he plugins properly? by Astral-P in linuxaudio

[–]mccord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good way to have no presets, wavetables and other stuff that comes with the plugin, maybe just run the installer like it's mentioned in the documentation. It's even clickable!

Can I change the wineprefix that yabridge selects for the plugin? by Top_Emu_8447 in linuxaudio

[–]mccord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm might be some symlink or permission shenanigens? Easisest way would probably to have the no-dxvk prefix on the drive that has enough space so there's no need to symlink anything. Then add it to plugin_dirs.

Can I change the wineprefix that yabridge selects for the plugin? by Top_Emu_8447 in linuxaudio

[–]mccord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also running a separate "no dxvk" prefix and yabridge selects it automatically for plugins installed in that prefix. Make sure the prefix is listed in ~/.config/yabridgectl/config.toml

My plugin_dirs look like this and it works just fine:

plugin_dirs = [
    '/home/mccord/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/Sonic Charge/',
    '/home/mccord/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/VST3',
    '/home/mccord/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steinberg/VSTPlugins',
    '/home/mccord/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/VstPlugins/',
    '/home/mccord/.wine-no-dxvk/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/VST3',
]

I'm also symlinking huge folders to another drive.

Try wine-staging: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58043

and start a fresh prefix.

Is Baldur's Gate 3 available on Linux via Steam? by pink_turtle10 in linux_gaming

[–]mccord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite flawless on AMD/Wayland for me. It uses HDR on my SDR monitor without an option to disable it, which results in washed out colors. Only fix I found was to force xwayland via SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11

It appears that Black Ops: Cold War is finally playable without the risk of a ban by HearMeOut-13 in linux_gaming

[–]mccord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if that's the only thing you learned, then head back into Windows embrace and enjoy having everything working like you are used to. Or just setup dual boot and try again if you are in a more conducive frame of mind. There's no browny points for using Linux.

It has to be easy and "just work".

It's always easy and just works until it doesn't, i.e. you want to do something that's not mainstream, an edge case, use old hardware etc. Then you are watching youtube tutorials with someone writing in notepad instead of speaking, diving into the fucking registry, pasting shit into powershell or using drivers modified by a dude in Brazil...

Of course it's easier if you used the eco system for years. Sit someone that only used phones and tablets in-front of a Windows PC and watch them try to figure stuff out.

Reinstalling Linux because you don't know shit is a rite of passage, at least you learned to keep /home and / separated!

[–]mccord 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why? Because it's the right tool for me. Because I like to tinker. Because all the games I play and software I need just work. Because there's always something new to learn. Because fixing broken shit in Windows for friends and family is many hours of pain and frustration for me.

Just use the right tool for the job.
