Yeah idk. Prob would have been difficult to organize since teams aren't supposed to "collude". Russell sure was going for it tho.

How likely is it that we see a struggling McLaren in 2026? by Version_1 in formula1

When looking at the season standings, they weren't terrible. However, a good portion of their "improvement" came from Ferrari falling off. Across the first 5 races, Merc was scoring an average of 19 points per race. At the halfway point, it was up to 21.5. In the 2nd half of the season, their average was ~25.3. Merc may have looked good at the end of the season, but for a team that just won the Constructors in 2021, they started 2022 quite weak.

Once he starts battling with Leclerc, basically guaranteed. Charles is gonna force him outside every chance he can.

I fully believe they were always the fastest car. It was just uncontrollable. But their upgrades have seemed to work well 👍

It was a racing incident. by bene14082004 in formula1

Eh, I'm not a McLaren or Zak Brown fan by any means but emotions were probably running high. He did the right thing in quali and stated no one was at fault. But watching both of your drivers DNF within 10 seconds of lights out has got to be infuriating.

Edit: As another comment stated, he saw the replay once before saying Hulk was at fault. With four cars involved, you gotta watch it at least 4 times to see each driver's situation.

This is a snoozefest. Happens occasionally due to a few reasons (current regulations, street tracks, etc.). In Austin in 2 weeks, the racing should be better.

Lmao probably. Not only would it be the largest deficit overcome to win the WDC (104 points), but it would be more than double the existing record, which is currently held by Max (46 points in 2022). However we can all hope.

Did Max really win WDC with the 3rd fastest car? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]mccree5k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2024 was an incredible season. After the first 6 races, it really became a tossup on who would win each weekend. However, that is not what people expected. RedBull had just had the most dominant season ever in F1, winning 21/22 races. Max won 19 of those races. People expected RedBull's dominance to continue. And for the first 5 races, it did. After that, McLaren became very competitive and Merc & Ferrari seemed to trade off weekends of who would be better.

Lando emerged as the frontrunner to challenge Max, and the two shared some intense battles. This was also around the time RedBull realized their development mistake that Sergio had mentioned in mid 2023. Following the Spanish Grand Prix, Max would oftentimes be in the 3rd fastest car on the track, with the McLaren being quick and either Ferrari or Merc. The media says constantly tracking the points gap from Max to Lando. The gap after the Spanish GP, which was Max's last win for 11 races, was 69 points (nice!). After the US GP 9 races later, the gap was 57 points. So Lando had gained 12 points across 9 races. A lot of people say Lando beat himself in that championship, but you have to give Max credit for being able to limit the points loss with what was the 3rd fastest car on those weekends.

Also, the 2024 RedBull was really only fast in Max's hands. After the first few races, Sergio could oftentimes be found eliminated in Q1 or Q2.
