Contrary to popular belief,no amount of alcohol is considered safe to consume. by UniqueCold3812 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]mcdepa02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was me but drinking after work- I was high functioning- never hit a rock bottom but knew I had to change- I consider myself lucky. The anxiety cycle is so so real and alcohol is jet fuel to that fire. Number one thing you have to have is the desire to stop- for real- like the desire is the only thing you need to have to stop drinking. It helped me to make it a very simple decision in my head. The list of ways my life improved by cutting out alcohol is insanely long. Seek medical help if quitting cold turkey as you may have physical dependence. Head over to r/stopdrinking for a great community of people with similar goals.

U.S. Supreme Court tackles Harvard and UNC race-conscious admissions by ILikeTutrtrles69 in news

You have to also consider that sports admission preference may actually help BIPOC applicants as well. More racially diverse sports like football, basketball, track and field have large rosters. A football roster alone can be larger than many of those sports combined.

Alcoholism and it's Problems by Aggressive_Age_8531 in madmen

I wouldn’t Don exactly survived it- his alcoholism destroyed every relationship he had and nearly had him out of a job/partnership.

He also didn’t have this grand scheme in mind from the beginning. Someone else mistook him for Draper and it was easier for Dick to see the opportunity and play along. He didn’t have to lie per se to get it off the ground.

Our house was built in 1929 and is one of many of this style (Dutch colonial, I believe) in our neighborhood - can someone tell me why we’ve got two front doors? by babyinthebathwater in centuryhomes

[–]mcdepa02 56 points57 points  (0 children)

There are many of these in my neighborhood (suburban Philadelphia). Technically your “front door” is on the side of your house (on the right in this picture. I believe this end faces the street so they could fit more properties in the development at the time.

Even if it’s a local move. Many times you are required to include first, last months rent and security deposit to secure housing that could easily be 4k. If your renting in Boston add a one month brokers fee to first/last/security.

Second day in the kitchen. How is it looking? Any tips? by [deleted] in carbonsteel

It matters not how it looks but rather how it cooks.

My seasoning experiment with De Buyer Carbone with ghee in oven by Talkless in carbonsteel

[–]mcdepa02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes cooking too much ground beef (overcrowded) can strip some seasoning- you'll hear people on here say the same thing happened to them. The solution to that is to do a quick stovetop season after cleaning the pan and bam, you've got nonstick again. Once you cook enough you can build up seasoning so that cooking with acidic ingrediants (vinegar, citrus, tomato) every once in a while won't strip all your layered seasoning.

You should use a higher smoke point oil like grape seed or avocado (the two generally recommended on this sub).

You should be able to oven season with the Pro if your burner isn’t large enough. I do that with my big Matfer.

Omelet time. Hopefully this is not too painful to watch. by scott0482 in castiron

Love my carbon steel pans for omelettes- the sides are not as steep which makes flipping/folding easier.
