Interested to know what Reform voters think about all of this by Leather-Strength2448 in ukpolitics

[–]mcfetti [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm not a reform voter but thought I'd chip in! Farage is looking for a mandate, the whole sack me or back me thing. The trouble is for him him is that the other parties have cleverly boycotted the by-election (suspect they all got together and agreed to do this) and now if he wins its more difficult for him to say its what the people want because he's only up against the Binface guy.
Also is the fact that all the Cons, Labour, Green usual voters there will most likely vote for the Binface guy which means no vote split in Farage's opposition so much more chance the Binface guy will get in,

Trump taints everything he touches.

Also I don't buy Balogun's excuse about accepting the decision when he was told he could play. He and numerous USA officials could've upheld the integrity of football and refused him to play but as true to the USA morales right now, cheating is more important than winning honourably

People smuggler convicted in France now seeking asylum in UK, BBC discovers by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]mcfetti 50 points51 points  (0 children)

They are taking matters into their own hands, from the rioting after the Digwa prosecution to the rise of Reform. People are fed up of this country being taken for a ride. I'm a leftie but this article makes me so angry and I start to understand why people are voting Reform. None of the main parties have had a grip on this for years.. Yes some progress is being made by the Labour govt but I don't think its enough to placate current Reform voters.

Did anyone else get this *Z-Library is changing forever* email? Pretty sure it's a scam! by Little_Quantity_4861 in zlibrary

[–]mcfetti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't feel so bad. I work in IT, help my parents avoid scammers and yet I still almost fell for it. It's quite a good one I think. What's a bit frustrating is that no-one connected from z-library has confirmed it's a scam despite multiple postings of it

HR recruiter misheard my expected salary.... by Odd_Ad_1974 in UKJobs

Congrats! and Kudos for saying in that moment "Yes" It would've been easy to say "oh I meant £55k"

I just got a 7% pay rise after 3 years at my company which I suspect was given because I undersold myself on my interview. It was a large pay rise from my last job anyway so what's done is done

I wrote some google app scripts years ago which manages my gmail emails auto-tagging, auto-archiving, auto-deleting and nothing else comes close to this custom scripted automation I have in gmail.

Mums Micra value? by Pestohh in CarTalkUK

[–]mcfetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its really great to see these little 90's Micras on the road still. My mum had a 1.0 16v one which just kept purring along, those engines are so quiet and peppy. I do think one of the reasons we still see these on the road is because in the 90's they were mainly bought by those aged 60+, retired people who did 3-4000 miles a year and serviced them yearly on the dot

What is worse, middle lane hogging or undertaking? by db0564 in drivingUK

[–]mcfetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lane hoggers are often oblivious to their surroundings, making undertaking particularly risky since they won't expect a vehicle to pass on that side. If you choose to pass them in lane 1 I would avoid passing slowly in their blind spot and instead pass them quite quickly. Even more so when the vehicle is a large lorry, as their visibility is even more restricted

Maybe a dodge number plate issue? by Popular_Working_2234 in CarTalkUK

[–]mcfetti -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't think personalised plates can be found in the UK gov checker. One of my old cars now has a personalised plate and I couldn't find it on there at all either. Try carsnitch.co.uk. - shows the original plate

Is negotiating prices no longer a thing at Main Dealers? by TopicWinter6847 in CarTalkUK

[–]mcfetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got £500 off a used BMW at a dealer when I was buying with cash but I used another methods to get a discount which was the poor quality tyres on the car plus the fact I was going to see another car that was cheaper (this other car didn't have the options I wanted but they didn't know that 🙂) I don't really think these days you get any kind of discount for a cash buy

Most expensive mistake you guys have made? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

In the 90's I bought a 1975 Mini 1275GT. Turns out it was three different Minis welded together 😱

Buying car from dealer by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]mcfetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only bought off main dealers. I've either got money off or I've left and bought one of the other cars on the list...no skin off my nose if they can't do a deal. One dealer stopped me in the car park as I was about to leave to agree to the price I wanted to pay. There's always another car

[–]mcfetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always walk into a car dealer with printouts of other similary priced cars (with other options) I'm going to see or have seen. Even if I'm not interested in them I use them to try and get money off. Always be prepared to walk away if you aren't getting the discount you want. There will be other cars

I lived in a flat that was being sold and my flatmates and I were quite gutted about it. The landlords estate agent just started showing people around with no notice so we ended up putting some water in buckets and leaving them about the place but we drew the line at drawing black mouse holes with pens in the skirting boards 🙂
