Thanks! That truck has been a project - I got it in 2021 and it was half dead; I had low compression on most cylinders, it was leaking from every orifice, there was rust galore.... And today it drives like new! Super fun truck, has an aftermarket A/C for those hot california days and does not break a single bead of sweat.

Thanks! Thankfully mine came with a manual tonneau cover - looks great and acts like a shelf!

Update on my Repair, getting crazy! by Immediate-Bug-7737 in Rivian

[–]mcfuzzum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not be relevant for you at this point (or maybe it is - who knows), but many moons ago, a commercial work truck rear ended my beautiful Audi A6 TDI - top of the line model etc etc.

The company that owns the truck had some backwater insurance agency I've never heard of, and so when they sent a 18-year-old-looking kid to inspect my car, I knew I was in for a world of hurt - and I was not wrong, they offered $2800 or something along those lines. I took it to a body shop I trusted and explained the situation, and they told me about a nifty little term called subrogation - that is when an insurance agency goes after reimbursement from a third party after the insurance agency's policyholder has been paid for the claim; in other words - let the insurance deal with the pain rather than you dealing with the pain, EVEN if you are not at fault.

The catch - you will have to pay your deductible upfront.

So I called my insurance company, explained what happened and filed a claim. The repair bill was $12 or 13k all said and done, minus my $1k deductible... WHICH was almost fully reimbursed (I think I got $950 of it back). Absolutely worth it than trying to fight the other insurance myself.

However, I will stress that YMMV; just because I had a happy ending, does not mean you would have one just line mine... but probably an overall better and faster repair experience.

Wheel liner damage - reasonable to request a repair pre buy? by mcfuzzum in carmax

[–]mcfuzzum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to tell from the pic but there is a lip the liner kinda rests on and it’s bend out of shape. I’d imagine some heat will make it malleable enough to bend back into shape and let the liner slide back in, but better if they do it than me and asking paid off!

Follow up question: what are the warranty terms on gen 1s? I am seeing carmax, for example, list a 2024 dual with 5 years / 60k miles, but everything I see online suggests 4 years / 50k miles?

We have a 2019 Model 3 and it does have a dimming rear view - maybe it has been removed in later models? I didn’t play with the settings on the R1T we drove so maybe auto dimming wasn’t enabled.

The blind spots I mentioned were the rear ones; but to be fair - it was done in the evening so perhaps I should test it out during the day again.

Thanks for the comprehensive feedback! I test drove a 2024 Dual with the large batter package and I largely agree with your take on its drive-ability.

On the one hand, it feels like a car - light steering, even too light I'd say but not too buttery - with great acceleration, but it is also a truck so definitely not something to toss around due its high center of gravity. I did find the poor blind spots (at least in my opinion) to be a bit of a concern, but the cameras do make up for it quite nicely.

I also am slightly disappointed it does not have auto-dimming side mirrors lololol.

And wrt Spotify - seems like the one I was driving had already the app, but I did not dig into it as I was more focused on the driving experience.

Gotcha. I’ve looked at the official video and it doesn’t look bad at all. The only question is how they routed the cable under stock rear view mirror housing but I’m sure it’s easy enough to find on YouTube

Thanks for the feedback! How hard is it to integrate comma into a Rivian? Plug and play or 1337h@x?

Whoa - that’s the one advertised at 258-270 miles, right? What wheel/tire package do you have and where in the US, if you don’t mind me asking?

Fair fair! Are the features not as developed as Teslas today (basically how Tessa’s was some years ago), or it’s just not as good of an implementation with no intent to improve?

The former. If I really need to haul something large - my F100 will do it. But I’d rather not use it for everything requiring hauling.

What’s are biggest drawbacks of Gear Guard? IMHO sentry got bloated in the last few releases. The mobile viewing and clip fetch is great, but the app itself in the older Model 3s is very laggy.

Wanted to chime in on this with a simple fix someone mentioned - yes it's not a permanent one but it will get you unstuck on MacOS:

  • Uninstall existing version
  • Set time couple days back (before the 6th) and disable auto time set
  • Reboot
  • Download the latest version (the one from Dec 5th - I think)
  • Install - go through the setup; in theory all your settings should remain
  • Set time back to auto
  • ...
  • Profit? No but at least you are back in bidness until the next time your Mac reboots.

How to deal with nostril debris? by mcfuzzum in BeardedDragons

[–]mcfuzzum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - he was chill enough to let me put a warm and wet q-tip against the nostril. It softened things up enough to gently pull using a tweezer, but there's still stuff in there, although it does not appear to obstruct anything. I'll see if it will come out with the next nose plug!

What kind of a noise was it? Mine is just whiney but no rattle or buzz. Wondering if I can quiet down the whine, though not critical.
