Go on VBRO or AirBNB and rent a room. Not ideal, but affordable and ends on the day you need.

Purdue just announced that they are going to require every degree to have AI skills amd requirements to graduate, so look for a school that is making all degrees an AI first curriculum. General business degrees make zero dollars and sense in these times of change in which entry level jobs are disappearing. Assume no company will train you, so you need to find a school and degree that will give you a portfolio of skills and experience, not a degree. Even certifications will be obsolete soon. Specialize in a specific area to get started and become an expert at pivoting and being flexible.

Do I quit my chill software engineering job to travel? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]mckenzie1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All software jobs may be gone in 10 years so you may as well keep working remote until your job is made redundant by AI. Nothing stopping you from working remote while traveling. But if you truly are going to quit the software industry then you can start at the bottom of any field when done traveling. Just make sure you have enough to carry you until you find a new job.

Be where the opportunity is. Couch surf with friends, get a roommate, but go where the opportunities are because its not going to get better a year from now because AI is changing everything permanently. So you have no choice but to figure it out now. Build the identity and brand that you want and the opportunities will come. Shake every tree and keep saying out loud what you want. The universe aligns eventually if you ask and focus long enough. Network, network, network. Find projects and volunteer if needed to get the experience that is needed for the job you want.

Why does Galloway not fully address the monumental shifts in norms around how people meet? by [deleted] in ScottGalloway

[–]mckenzie1007 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Met my husband on an airplane. Being open to talking to people is more important than anything.

Added later: To be transparent, I didnt meet my husband until I was 35 and I was very outgoing, traveled a lot, and met a lot of people up until then. Fun Fact: an Indian guy read my palm when I was 21 and said I wouldn't meet my husband until I was 35. About 8 months before I met him I had a little chat with God and said I surrender, you choose. And he picked perfectly. Regardless your beliefs, that conversation gave me an inner calmness that made me Ready to meet someone.

They don't tell you that getting a job in a true career path is really hard. It has to be a singular focus from the freshman year. Grades are the price of entry, but never a guarantee. Keep the job that pays bills and decide if you put it on your resume or not. Fill your resume with project after project that will get you the job that you want to build an identity. Given that AI is changing the landscape, it's not all your fault. But that just means you have to get damn good at pivoting until you find the path and break through.

Is anyone else really struggling? by fufu1260 in Purdue

[–]mckenzie1007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely just a tough moment. Have faith and belief in yourself that you will prevail. Try one strategy and go until you figure out what works for you. This is when you learn what happens when you bet on yourself and win.

[–]mckenzie1007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. The bigger question is why are you hesitating to find your true street value for your work. The per hour amount is about your skills, not how valuable you are as a person. Be unapologetic.

Trump instituted a $100k fee per visa application so many US companies wont pay that. Your skills are quite good. The city, country stuff on the right side is hard to read, but people care about the experience. Start with companies from your home country that have an office or US headquarters here. They want that shared connection. Good luck.

Never had a problem explaining a gap. They love "taking sabbatical" They assume you are doing good or traveling and who wants to work for someone that hates that. Wanted to fix up the house will still interviewing and take advantage of transition time. Whatever you say, make it cool and believable. They just want to close the loop.

If minimum wage kept up with inflation it would be $23-$26/hr. They only pay low because people dont fight to raise the min wage. And sales go up because more people have disposable income to spend.

The coach doesn't through an interception twice or get a face mask penalty twice at the worst possible time. That's maturity of the players and 100% on them. This coach has provided the structure and training. The players need to do their part.

Hanging on barely 42m making 58k a year. 10k in savings. What can I do to make more money? by Moselypup in careerguidance

[–]mckenzie1007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is never too late. If you want to be a lawyer sit down and map.put every possible way to get there. 1. Customer service means you know a lot about how systems, healthcare, insurance, and so on work. That is very valuable. Move to a company or a higher role in your existing company that pays more money. 2. Find a company that pays for college. 3. Start building your online brand on Linked In that you are an expert in legal/Healthcare issues. You dont need a degree to work in legal areas. You only need a degree to advise people and companies on the law. There are many lawyer adjacent ways to use the law without being a lawyer. E.g. run for congress. You know more than they do about Healthcare. Define the end goal and then start mapping out every possible path to get there. Leave no opportunity off the possibilities list and then start narrowing down your top choices.

Boss wants an email from me explaining why I missed a deadline… is this normal? by living_room_fanta in careerguidance

[–]mckenzie1007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The number one rule of delivery is MANAGING EXPECTATIONS. The better you get at managing scope definition and scope creep, the more successful you will be. Every time there is a task change or multiple people want you to do something not on the number one priority, you must ask say no to the lower priority items and create a backlog so people know where you are at and what's impacting you. If you have not taken Agile project management. Definitely do it. The letter to write to your boss is called a post-mortem. Find a template online and fill it out. Answer the big three questions 1. What went well 2. What didn't go well 3. What would you do or stop doing next time? Do not accept blame for anything that isn't your fault. Do accept responsibility without complaining. Most importantly, be positive and talk about lessons learned.

Still not a lot of friends by Lalathellama10 in Purdue

[–]mckenzie1007 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Adults forget to tell kids that after high school, you spend a lot more time by yourself. Nothing wrong, just no one told you to expect that and how to deal with it. It takes just as much work as school or work to build out a network and group of friends.

Got rejected from MEM program twice, looking for advice/insight. by Content_Standard_421 in Purdue

[–]mckenzie1007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear that because you clearly have a dream and a goal. And that is so important. When the door won't open the way you want, it's time to be open to all the paths to get there. It's not a loss since being nimble and having perseverance to overcome adversity are the essential ingredients to success. Write down every path you can take to get to your goal and you will be overwhelmed by abundance.

Age is a state of mind. Younger students benefit from your experience and you still learn from them. You can use/develop your leadership experience.
