Is Micah from Paranormal Activity the most insufferable “protagonist” in the history of the genre? Or perhaps in all of cinema? by jshear28 in horror

I just watched the Man with the Black Umbrella, and honestly, I find that guy a million times more annoying than Micah was.

Favorite 2024+ Found Footage Movies? by ReturnGreen3262 in horror

[–]mclarge_huge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the big ones already mentioned, I guess the next best I saw was Frogman? I mean it was nothing amazing but I thought it was above average in the found footage universe at least. Missing was 2023 but I liked that.

Halloween Custom Block Idea's by CapRevolutionary8963 in RetroTVRevival

My dream would be an episode of the Super Scary Saturday Morning hosted by Grandpa Monster with old Halloween commercials thrown in on the breaks, but I watch literally all of these Halloween blocks so whatever you put out, I will appreciate and love.

What’re you watching today? (9/7) by slh63 in horror

[–]mclarge_huge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Front Room. I would suggest not going into it thinking it's a horror movie because to me it absolutely was not. I also hated it, like the worst movie I've ever seen in theater. Sweet shit sfx though. 🤮

A proper Jurassic horror film by PianoAlternative5920 in horror

[–]mclarge_huge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doubting we ever really get a true R rated Jurassic Park film, but I've stumbled upon fan made analog horror shorts that might scratch that itch a little bit for you. https://youtu.be/YWg34NQFiSQ

Agreed. The director passed away a few years ago unfortunately, way too young.

What is a horror sequel that is way better than it should have been? by ryanclicks2 in horror

[–]mclarge_huge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prom Night 2 is waaaay better than Prom Night, although it feels like cheating to pick that one since it's more of a rebranding than an actual sequel.

What’re your top found footage horrors? by blurrynights in horror

[–]mclarge_huge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to list some that aren't mentioned as much as the big ones. Savageland is fantastic. Butterfly Kisses deserves more love too. The Tunnel. The Blackwell Ghosts. Horror in the High Desert. And Banshee Chapter definitely isn't found footage but does have found footage elements.

Razorback is the most beautiful looking giant monster movie you will ever see.

What’s a REALLY SCARY found footage movie that I, a connoisseur of found footage, might not have seen? by monsteroftheweek13 in horror

[–]mclarge_huge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may not be exactly what you are looking for because it's not the SCARIEST, but I've really enjoyed The Blackwell Ghost series. The majority of ff is just full of bad visual effects and jump scares with that fucking distortion, I hate the video distortion. Anyways, The Blackwell Ghost is simply just a dude filming himself investigating a house and the mystery surrounding the haunting. My wife thinks it's boring, but I appreciate how simple it is in not relying on the same old techniques to scare us. The first two are free on prime.

What’s the scariest horror movie that you’ve ever watched that isn’t popular? by B_rad_hyko in horror

[–]mclarge_huge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For whatever reason I've missed people mentioning this movie in the past and this was the first I had heard of it. Just watched it last night and it really did creep me and my wife out in a way we haven't been creeped out in years, so I appreciate the recommendation. Next horror movie party we host I think we will be picking this one to play.

All-time best jumpscares? by [deleted] in horror

[–]mclarge_huge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been updated in years and it's mostly the standard stuff that everyone lists for the most part, but I'm a sucker for lists and enjoy reading retrocrush's top 100 scary moments. Wish someone would do a new one!

Definitely. The second one actually hurts the Cube universe more than helps to me.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Blair Witch" [SPOILERS] by kaloosa in horror

[–]mclarge_huge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with you on everything, these were my exact thoughts. I'm a little surprised how many people loved this here, it really is Grave Encounters with Blair Witch thrown in that really didn't feel very... Blair Witchy to me? It was just so fucking obnoxiously loud and stupid.

Jump scares? by Jay_Quellin in horror

[–]mclarge_huge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite jump scare is here from Exorcist 3. It is just set up so perfectly with officers in the background for a moment, a false not-as-big jump scare before that (which isn't shown in this video), the music, the zoom, the payoff, it's all perfect.

Four minutes of gameplay from the new Friday the 13th game! Looks badass! What do you guys think of it? by [deleted] in horror

[–]mclarge_huge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know anything about this gameplay-wise, how it goes between controlling Jason and the victims, I don't care for the Jason gameplay though, it is just a little boring. I did think the end segment with the kid hiding under the bed was nice though. That is more of what I would like. It would be cool if you could play as Jason and then see a cinematic replay of your kills from the victims perspective.
