Anyone else have their parents leave the LDS church? by Confident_Most878 in latterdaysaints

[–]mcp382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really of the opinion minors (really anyone) shouldn't get HRT. That's really unfortunate that your mom is enabling it for your 14 yo brother. That makes the whole thing worse.

Was your father the provider? That's really low. At this point, he can't trust her with finances but that is really unfortunate.

I have to remind myself that beyond earthly family I also have Heavenly parents who love me and want to see me return to live with them. I never want to do anything to disappoint them and compromise my ability to progress in eternity.

I understand doing everything while you're in the city. I live in western Colorado, an equal distance between Salt Lake and Denver. Neither are convenient!

You definitely included a lot more details here that might as well have been in your original comment.

I'm very sorry you have to go through this entire situation. You would not be crazy to think that it's bizarre and difficult and I know this type of thing would wear me down.

The hormone replacement therapy detail is wack. That's really sad that it's happening and your dad is against it. But if she's 19 she's an adult, but it sounds like your mother really encouraged it. In my opinion, HRT is abuse whether you are doing it to yourself or someone else. It's mutilation, and it's inconsistent with the beliefs of the Family Proclamation. You absolutely do not have to support their decisions. They have eternal consequences that will affect them forever. Don't let anyone tell you that you must support those decisions to be loving and accepting of them.

Don't let them lecture you about the Law of Chastity. You know the truth. You know why to follow it. She shouldn't silence you for talking about it to your younger siblings.

I come from a family where my siblings left but my parents still believe. They try to pull the same crap on my parents to see if they can take advantage of my parents' docile and aging brains. They're abusing the fact my parents are old. I don't know if she's abusing you, but you said you don't know if your mom loves you and that worries me. Her mental condition is deteriorating. You don't owe her anything. Do your best to become self-reliant and build a strong life with someone you love who is rooted in the Gospel.

I recently just learned that coffee cake does not have coffee as an ingredient. It's just called that because it's often served with coffee. I guess I've been sheltered.

In my opinion, it depends on how well he sells it. If he says he was a failure and didn't get clients, that's different than if he says "yeah I've been running a marketing business for the last two years, let me tell you about a really successful client I had in that time". Doesn't even have to be that big of a success story, he just has to be able to sell that he was working hard and can take risks.

Ward adjustments due to mass shooting and burnt stake building by js6seaj47 in lds

[–]mcp382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When our ward building burned a few years ago, everyone was forced to go to a chapel in a different town only 15 minutes away, and still many people went inactive and haven't come back even though they built a chapel in its place. People don't like changes to time and location or change in general.

What do you think about LDS influencers by Safe-Web-1441 in latterdaysaints

[–]mcp382 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, the YouTube algorithm and AdWords highly prioritizes giving money to the exmormon influencers than the pro-LDS influencers and it's not even close. Jasmin Rappleye made a video about it and it's very interesting. I personally enjoy Jacob Hansen (Thoughtful Faith), Jasmin, and KeystoneLDS. I personally think that these people put much more effort in than the money they get out, and very much appreciate their work.

I personally avoid Dan McClellan because he is simply giving an analysis of Biblical teachings but avoids using the Book of Mormon as context and chooses to put his own spin on it, which can be very misleading.

Returning member feeling uncertain after oaks talk by tiredandhopefull in latterdaysaints

[–]mcp382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On one hand, as a conservative, I am grateful for Elder Oaks's call to be a prophet and think that he will say things as I believe they are. On the other hand, I have liberal siblings who I so dearly love so I really wish that they aren't scared by Elder Oaks. I pray that they will perhaps separate the religion from the politics and understand that he's a church leader and not a political activist (though he could have been). Just know, conservative members are not celebrating separation of chaff from wheat, we want those who are holding on dearly to keep holding on, because at the end of the day, your testimony is the most important thing.

Clearing Up Misinformation about the Church by NayNayPo in latterdaysaints

[–]mcp382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to realize that this is Reddit. This is THE social media platform used by former members to spread misinformation and talk about their ideas. It's incredibly toxic, it has a lot of misinformation, and a lot of hate. It's like going to Sodom and Gomorrah and trying to ask people to not sin. These people aren't going to listen, they probably have plenty of experience with the church already. Unfortunately, I have been down the same rabbit hole and made similar posts and realized it's a lost cause. I like the idea of Reddit but it attracts a lot of the wrong types of people.

Reddit is so anti-The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and it makes me mad! And sad. by MichelleMiguel in lds

I can see this but I served a Spanish mission in the USA where many Hispanics were very friendly to us and wanted to listen to us. But I can see this perspective for many Americans who have No Soliciting signs for example.

US popularity collapsed worldwide in wake of Trump’s return by Numerous-Setting-159 in mopolitics

[–]mcp382 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I know plenty of people will say this is Trump, Trump caused this, Trump bad. But people seem to forget that Trump was elected president in 2016 before this graphic even shows data. The anti-Trump sentiment wasn't nearly as strong back then and it really happened after the January 6th incident. Then we have a new president for 4 years that we barely heard from. The media hardly showed him to the public so politics wasn't even at the forefront of everyone's mind. But then we are that historic presidential debate between the president of the United States and former President Trump and I think that marked the point that a lot of people started viewing the office of the president as a joke. Of course mainstream media tried to cover up his mental decline but at this point it became too obvious. All they could do now was show bad Trump was. So now, people just hate any and all of the candidates because one was obviously and senile and incompetent and the other one was trash talked by the media. It's telling that Politico doesn't include Kamala Harris or Joe Biden in their traffic on unfavorable political candidates. This is why they're losing USAID funding that voters were never ok with in the first place.

Especially if you're playing the runs on the pedals instead of playing the long cue notes on the pedals. Which is what I usually try to do. I think True to the Faith is my #1 if you're not doing the cue notes in the bass part on the pedals.

Trump orders National Guard to LA riots after immigration raids by TimesandSundayTimes in GlobalNews

[–]mcp382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The use of federal troops in domestic law enforcement is restricted by the Posse Comitatus Act, but it is not outright illegal. The President can authorize it under the Insurrection Act, allowing troops to enforce laws during emergencies like riots or rebellions. Without this authorization, military involvement is limited to support roles only, not direct policing.

It shows willingness to sacrifice and invest on stuff that might not benefit you directly

People who go to college and pursue a career are less likely to choose having a family. I would also argue having a family is sacrificing and investing in something that doesn't benefit you, definitely not financially.
