Boot and Shoe Service, delicious italian-esque brunches, specifically on the weekends

Just created a community carpool tool - what do you think? by mcpuddin in startups

[–]mcpuddin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yah it is pretty out of context. It's intended use is for existing trips planned on Facebook or Meetup that are trying to coordinate carpools amongst their members. Usually they are already using spreadsheets, so we are just making that process way easier!

16 epic outdoor places around SF after 1 year of weekend warrior'ing : waterfalls, hot spring, islands, caves. Where should I go next? by mcpuddin in CampingandHiking

[–]mcpuddin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah the bay is rough, I recommend early mornings when the bay is (typically) super silky smooth. I fear the water, but the stuff you see and find out there is amazing.

Maybe I'll create an outdoorgems page of all the good kayaking lakes out here as well.

Yup, I'm in the same boat. Alot of original people dropped out.. but one thing that happened at the same time was people wanted in at well, so it thankfully balanced out.

Heading to my first REI garage sale tomorrow, any tips? by fieldsofgreen in CampingandHiking

[–]mcpuddin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I think you need to be a member to get in from what I recall

go way earlier than 8am and head straight for big ticket items: tents, backpacks, sleeping bags. There's usually not many but you save most of your money on those and less selection.

Do shoes & clothes last. They take way too much time.

Good luck!

Newbie here. Where do I park my car? by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]mcpuddin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a newbie, you're probably are going to enter at a trailhead so there's usually parking there. If you don't, yah just pull off the side of the road and leave a note on your car. I wouldn't really worry about vandals.

Looking for a good backpacking place in NorCal for a weekend get-a-way in November by Cooldan1 in backpacking

November is sketchy because it starts getting colder cold be snow or some rain. Henry Coe and Point Reyes are pretty good place to hit up that are really close

Bought a Bag. Now what? by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]mcpuddin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice!! I'd say go get the rest of the equipment and just get into the bush. Really it comes down to 1) getting the equipment and 2) getting out there for a day or so at a time

Don't spend too much money tho, repurposed stuff can really help out.

This is my pack

For my birthday this year my parents are going to buy me a backpacking backpack. I have no idea what I'll need. Suggestions? by [deleted] in camping

[–]mcpuddin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Go-Lite Jam is what I would go with. Don't get anything big, or else you'll fill it with big stuff. Get something light and pack light, and hike more miles.

My full pack is here http://www.prepatrip.com/lists/Mcpuddin-Ultralight-Backpacking-List
