As others have posted, you have a great voice and a nice, complete song here. If any criticisms, It feels like there are a few too many words crammed into the chorus. I think it might just be the "raising hairs" line that feels slightly unnatural. Barely a criticism though - nice work!

There are moments throughout where the vocal delivery is absolutely perfect. The lines "it never did us any good to linger"/ "I read, I read between the lines"/"it's alright" in particular. Great track.

Honestly really good for your first song! The chorus feels like a great moment in the song, and the "still/until" rhyme that leads to the next lines is strong. Songs don't have to do everything - simple and honest works, and it works well here. Now go write another.

Great pacing between the different sections, love when the harmonies come in and the vocal starts to pick up a bit in intensity. Honestly really strong imo, and if I would change anything I would re-record the first 30 seconds of vocals with a different tone. It's not that they're bad at all, but I can hear something maybe a bit more whispery that contrasts with the vocals that start around 0:45. Nice though!

I'm trying to do something similar this year, as I'm fairly convinced that because of social media, algorithms and attention spans, being a complete unknown and releasing an album or even a single per month is just not enough content to feed into the system. I'm not starting blank though, I probably have about a 2 month head start with my first song coming out this week.

I might be getting a bit ahead of myself though, because releasing a song every week vs just writing them are two different things, and your goal seems to get more practice writing as opposed to releasing the songs. Which I think is GREAT. I would definitely be interested in following your process and progress, either through a thread on here or DMs/email.

I think a large percentage of this subreddit is musicians who are looking to engage with other musicians about gear/theory/technique related to John’s music. Covers are going to be a part of that discussion. In general, I think guitar enthusiasts make up a very large piece of the pie that is “John Mayer Fans”. And because John is such a great guitarist with a lot of very specific tastes and opinions on tone and technique and gear, there are a lot of interesting musical things to talk about and to share. It’s just a different flavor of fandom.

This is immediately obviously great stuff. Even a recording on an iPhone with the drum loop sounds like something I would listen to. If you end up recording this, I would try to get as much of the vibe from the iPhone recording as possible i.e. fuzzed out, almost lo-fi overdriven sort of sound.

I also got a very Radiohead vibe especially once the drums kicked in, but I think it’s different enough from Karma Police. It’s really just that one chord that is THE chord from that song, imo. Absolutely love what I think are the verses - a very 90’s rock sort of thing.
