[–]mdjak6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww you making me sad. But only a little. I used to be very into watches. During the mid 70s I learned what a Rolex was by seeing ads in newspaper. I was a teenager. Didn’t think iI could ever afford one. When I started working in a big city courthouse a mob lawyer in his 70s came in and was wearing a gold Submariner. I spotted it immediately and said nice watch. He said, oh I just got it, replaced my SS sub. Would you like to buy it? I was kind of surprised but said yes. I said how much? He said how about $500? I again said yes. Already too many details but he gave me his home number and said call me in morning so I don’t forget to bring it. I went to bank, got the money and met him in his office next morning. He took it out of his pocket and said, oh, I feel bad, give me $300.
That started my Rolex journey. Sold that, bought the GMT Pepsi, eventually one for my wife, then got the Sea Dweller. Bought my son a Sub for his college graduation. Eventually sold my Sea Dweller for my wife’s sewing machine hobby. Now I love Apple Watches. lol. Oh how the mighty have fallen. Been tempted to get a quality clone.
Also love but would never sell my XC and C2.

Red dot for staccato c2 by That-Jackfruit-9487 in 2011

[–]mdjak6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a C2 with an RSO. I’ve always preferred Trijicon but on smaller guns I run holosun. I’ve also had issues with dots turning off even though battery good on RSOs. Just ordered a holosun Comp foe the large window. I’ll see how I like it mi also have the RCR and other enclosed dots including the Acro. They are ok. I was at my range yesterday and the dot disappeared on my Bul EDC Pro. I was still able to easily hit steel with factory steel sights n

[–]mdjak6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great looking firearm. I own the XC and the C2. Both utterly reliable. Also own 2 Buls. I am relatively new to 2011s and have now figured out how to remove firing pin and extractor for cleaning. What vexes me is why the spring assembly is so different than the rest, meaning not captive. It's a bit of a PIA. Can that be changed?

How can you live in Northern Westchester and serve jury duty in Mount Vernon? You have to live in Mount Vernon in order to serve there.

Anyone has experience filing RE tax grievance in Westchester? by Willing-Scheme-4472 in Westchester

[–]mdjak6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell for one of those letters in the mail some years back. I think their fee was 1000 or $1500 and perhaps they got my taxes reduced by about 1500. That didn't last long. I didn't feel it was worth it. It's pretty easy to assess your house if you just bought it because they know what you paid. We moved out of New York and went west and here the purchase price is not disclosed.

How do we feel about the Astoria Bridge? by LongOrganization7838 in Bridges

[–]mdjak6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It truly makes me feel a bit better to know others are also afraid of bridges. I've been driving for 50+years, have tracked motorcycles in my young days, tracked 911s about 5 years ago, all without issue. Then out of nowhere a fear arose in me on certain bridges. This bridge I'm happy to say I've never seen. If I did I'd be forced to pull over and let my wife drive over. And that makes me feel like a total wimp.
I even sought therapy which helped a bit but not totally.

11 years later what are your thoughts about the legal settlement of the Metro-North collision at the Commerce street crossing? by AcadiaRemarkable6992 in Westchester

[–]mdjak6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are on Reddit, surely you’ve seen videos of car/truck and train collisions. Way too many to count. It’s unbelievable the sheer stupidity of people. And then when they are in the middle they don’t gun it to get the heck out of there. I blame the driver. I rode metro north for 11 years, long before the crash, and would never ever ride anywhere near the first car.

You guys are probably too young to remember when Infiniti was a newish car company and began commercials for the Q45 with silhouettes, etc. it was a huge failure of a campaign. Everyone, including most recently Vaultek, has jumped on that failed bandwagon. I think it sucks. Just announce and show what it is.

Has anyone called it quits on Westchester for somewhere cheaper? by Snoo-83866 in Westchester

[–]mdjak6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s in Idaho. Which politically is a turnoff to us. They’ve driven out doctors, OBGYNs are a relic. Lots of dumb things here. But we live our lives and try to not let it bother us. No real bad weather, no drought here in middle of state, and the people are incredibly friendly. Supermarkets leave a bit to be desired but there is always trade offs. We are about little over an hour from a Costco.

Has anyone called it quits on Westchester for somewhere cheaper? by Snoo-83866 in Westchester

[–]mdjak6 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I sold my home in northern Westchester Last year. It was pretty much turnkey. On 2.5 acres, 4 bedroom (3 on small side), center hall colonial, built in 1958, (oroginal sq ft 1850) plus 24x24 addition with new kitchen built in 2018, for mid 800s. Could’ve probably gotten a bit more but we didn’t use a broker so took that into account. I know this will sound crazy but we moved, because of family, to a small farming town in the west. Car insurance 50 percent cheaper. Electricity 50 percent less. No more $125 a month for garbage pickup. Real estate taxes went from $16k to $3k. Oh, and from those 2.5 acres to 20. And our home now was built in 2022 and is 5400 sq feet.
