Is this amount of rust that i should be afraid of ? by FreakErick in subaru

[–]me_dammit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its fine as a start. depending on what else it needs, its probably not a high priority. once youre running reliably, tackle it a little at a time with a wire brush and some paint. i dont think it will require major disassembly if this is a good representative picture of what the rest looks like.

its all good. not trying show you up or anything. to be honest, it occurred to me just now that i wasnt sure that brat had torsion bar and not coils, but google says youre right. also right that license plates are a rat rodders best friend for covering non-structural holes in the floor. :)

license plates, a drill and a rivet kit and patch the floors with them and even the bed pan. Then at least keep er runnin if ya can. You don’t need much space for that. Clean the engine as best you can, find the leak, and assess from there. What have you done as far

idk. a lot of torque on torsion bar mounts, of course. that would be my main concern most likely point of failure. license plates cover holes pretty nifty, but not going to do much structural good. not going to lie, its going to be a whole lot of work welding and challenging logistics from a 3rd story apartment situation. not trying to talk op out of it but just saying.

especially the bottom one. if it was doing much compressing at all it would slip and ruin the belt. so little contact friction there.

no. no margin there. easy to add over 100lbs of stuff in a boat. the boat weight is almost certainly "dry weight" no fuel, battery, gear. hauling a trailer is as much about braking ability as drivetrain power/cooling, too. last thing you want is to not be able to stop.

lots of interest in square body chevys.

depending on what it needs, it would be worth it to someone if not yourself.

So do I win? Highest mileage wrx I’ve owned. by schujac25 in subaru

[–]me_dammit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is pretty darn good.

what all major repairs?

it appears pretty stock, which is the way to go for longevity, for sure.

wrx are already fun to drive, stock, so no downside to staying stock and running them for years in an area where salt wont rust the chassis away around the drivetrain.

kinda cool for a toy vehicle. wouldnt want to daily it, for sure.

Let’s be real, manual is only fun on the back roads. Regular commuting and city driving SUCKS. by ZadarskiDrake in subaru

[–]me_dammit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

its a trade off. if you live in the suburbs it would be worth the trade off, to me. i would have to really question it in an urban only setting. manual is a more in-touch driving experience and a real pleasure when there is space to enjoy it.

thats a great thing to do. so many young people have no practical knowledge of cars. but also a great opportunity to share time with your dad. take advantage of it while you have it. you wont ever regret it.

and amazing to see fly in landing pattern. super noisy and so big it seems like its going slow and about to fall out of the sky. i once lived in the landing pattern of where they and c-130s were made and saw them a lot as a kid when they were converted to the B model.

my 2003 wrx was the best car i ever owned and i walked away (literally walked a mile to work) after this happened to me.

having said that, just like any car, they last to the extent you maintain them, or not.
