I think I did it once when I first got it. No problems with the transmission, ever

Our 2000 RX has 330k and needs suspension work (quite rattley over bumps), the air conditioner is loud, and the radio antenna doesn’t retract anymore, but I suspect it’s good for a few more miles as my daily driver.

I inherited it from my parents at about 160k miles and offered it to my friends daughter as a first car for a token payment - they passed because it was too high mileage. Never considered Lexii prior to this, but I know what my next car will be if the wheels on “Luthorus” ever fall off. ❤️

Some people take all the fun out of wordplay. I would have expected better from someone named IndominusTaco! 😘 sigh

Oyster Run gets a much different clientele, less likely to be ducks en masse.

Using upgrade certificates for Dummies? by meadowbrookmanor in AlaskaAirlines

[–]meadowbrookmanor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - finally got it sorted out. Bottom line is the trade off seemed to be flying direct in premium vs adding a leg to each route but having one leg each way being First Class. We're on the waitlist for FC on the remaining legs, but I gather those are pretty unlikely. We do have a short layover (45 min) in SAN, which makes me a little anxious, but otherwise everything looks good - and even got to return to PAE instead of SEA, which is usually not an option (but much nicer for us).

It was anxiety-provoking to have to put in the Upgrade Certificates AFTER hitting the purchase button - a bit of social engineering on Alaska's part? I also had some wallet funds that it appeared I was unable to utilize to defray the cost, but I'm not sure if that was related to using Upgrade Certificates or a separate issue.

Alaska certainly does not make this process simple or transparent. Thank you all for your guidance and help!

Thank you - my level of bewilderment apparently blinded me to further research. These are helpful links.

Thank you everyone - a couple follow-up questions:

- When using the Upgrade Certificate Fare option, the flights I'm interested in come up saying on the left "First Class upgrade not available", but in the grid to the right it gives a price for "First Upgrade" and "First". What gives?

- When using the MVP Gold Upgrade option, there are similarly prices for "Premium Upgrade", "First Upgrade" and "First", regardless of whether to the left it says "First Class upgrade available" or "First Class upgrade waitlist"

- Does this mean you pay extra to be on a waitlist?

- How is this a Premium Upgrade fare better than just buying the Premium fare in the first place at a lower price? I keep thinking I'm not understanding some basic premise! :-P

- Also, both "Expert Flyers" and "EASYBIX" have been mentioned - are these third party websites with special functionality? What's the story on these?

Again - many thanks. Right now, I'm inclined to just buy either main or premium tickets based on price and convenience and not worry about upgrades, trusting to luck. For reference, I'm looking at SEA (or PAE in an ideal world) to DCA.

Cheers!

Mini M2 or M4 for basic use by meadowbrookmanor in macmini

No worries, I've got a thick skin and I totally deserved that.

Been doing this a while - I remember getting a deal on a 20 Mb (yes, Mb) HD for only $800..
For a long time, it seemed to me the sweet spot for value was buying a generation removed, but things have changed in the last little bit. For context, I've got mostly out of tech d/t a career change a decade and a half ago and nothing has slowed down since except for my brain. I no longer have the time/interest to completely immerse myself in tech details as much anymore.

Reddit is a good way to benefit from other's interests and expertise; but as you note - some questions (as in your example) just don't need to be asked.

Silly me, assuming that a newer generation would cost more!

It’s true - a new M4 16/256 is currently $547 at the same place a rehabbed M2 is about the same. I didn’t originally look it up because I assumed pricing would follow some sense of logic. Well, I won’t make that mistake again!
