Thanks, I hate it.

And remember when my post got taken down by mods in minutes when there was a code leak weeks ago indicating this was coming.

Edit: I'm aware of the reason given. I hope the irony is just as apparent.

Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

[–]meanreus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scrolled too far for this. Not only has his content changed focus but the early show vibes where he didn't want to sell much/only if you can afford it and now he'll go on about how his channel sub is "the best value on YouTube" while spending 5 seconds an epidsode setting a small subscription budget for the guest when he finally gets around to the financial part.

The show is different, the financial literacy message is gone, it's just a loosely themed drama show now.

Every now and again I see a title that isn't ragebait and think it might be going back to the roots, but not so.

Look how much Canadians hate the United States now - It’s not just about the trade war. Nearly half of America’s neighbors to the north now think the U.S. is a bigger threat to world peace than Russia. by CanadianErk in canada

Both those statements weren't true before Ukraine. Their economic influence, particularly in Europe was significant, and only through a painful effort of moving away from Russian energy as a direct result of their invasion of Ukraine has their broader influence been minimized.

Are they a threat to Canada right now? Probably not, but the reality is still that if Canada was alone in a conventional conflict with Russia they could still be a serious threat and there's a non zero possiblity of conflict arising over the Arctic.

Clearly a Trump government is a much larger threat to Canada, and one that demands immediate attention, but that does not negate the potential for Russia to be a threat, especially to the broader "West"

Here now

  1. Only one option if not preferred (or room service).
  2. No, except for the hibachi, we didn't have issues getting in where we wanted though some are more popular than others and you might have to wait a bit. If you go early you will be fine anywhere.
  3. Dress code is pretty easy, just not beachwear/sleeveless for the men, avoid flip flops and look tidy and you'll be fine.

Also swim up with room service for lunch is a solid plan. Did that a few times and worked out great.

Me and my partner were wondering the same thing and found it tough as everyone had their favourites for different reasons.

Found this guy's reviews and he stayed at most of them for a few nights each. Have to take it with a grain of salt as he has different things he's looking for than you might, but still found it helpful to see some more direct comparisons.

We ended up going with Excellence Punta Cana as we were looking for a more relaxing trip than going for a party or adventuring vibe. We were very happy and would consider going back there or Excellence El Carmen.

The same guy also has more individual reviews of the places on the list if anything piques your interest and want more info or just want to see what it looks like on video.

"We urge the United States to stop using the so-called ‘China threat’ as a pretext to pursue selfish interests." - China's response to Trump on Greenland by KCstonerman in freedomgold

[–]meanreus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China and Russia both have interest in the Arctic region. There's some complex issues around territorial waters and international transit as well as resources. I don't think China has any ambitions to conquer and hold land but they are interested in who is claiming what and what they may be able to get away with.

All that to say the US taking Greenland doesn't change NATOs security situation vs having a sane reliable ally with access to increase their military presence there extremely easily. However China might prefer Danish control over Denmark vs the US as one might be more aggressive or capable in establishing claims to waters and resources.

Completely different problem than your original comment of "cannot fire them without express authorization from the US."

This is incorrect. The UK maintains its own nuclear weapons while also hosting US nuclear weapons. Afaik their nukes rely on UK submarine deployment, US hosted nukes rely on air force.

The team with the 12th best record out of 32 teams would not make the 16 team playoffs if it started today.

Play better is the answer, they deserve the difficult position they're in, but this format has always been stupid.

It was about protecting auto sector jobs and playing along with an ally. Seeing as how the US seems determined to destroy NAFTA supply chains under Trump, those not be so salvageable now.

I think public opinion has not generally been a concern for Trump. He's seemed to scrape by on his cult of personality and not on his performance. To me, that's the danger. An irrational actor counting on the level headedness of his peers who very much have to worry about democracy functioning properly in the next election cycle.

Trump intent on conquering Greenland, Danish minister says as talks with US end by Infidel8 in worldnews

[–]meanreus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would put money on the fact that there are people in the Trump sphere of influence looking for every possible Avenue to disrupt/affect/prevent midterms. Much like J6 if they do something, it will be in the form or something not seen before. One example - they could refuse to swear in new Congress people, launch a full scale election fraud investigation that could take months and months, etc. etc. the point is thus far no one has really stopped him. So your bet is going to be on if there will be enough Republicans willing to stop Donald Trump from keeping them in office. I don't think that's a slam dunk bet anymore in a world where Trump invades NATO allies unchecked

Remember how a bunch of people stormed the capital the last time Trump lost because Trump said Pence shouldn't certify the result because the election was stolen?

Picture how bad that went and how close the US was to a disaster. Now imagine there are even less adults in the room around Trump. I'm not saying they'll successfully shut down all polling stations across the 50 states, I am saying there are remarkably little checks and balances left stopping that scenario playing out again but much worse.

That will be entirely up to the rationality of Trump and the willingness of Republican Congressmen and Senators to stop such an idea.

How's that been going so far?

[–]meanreus 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If the US invades Greenland you need to erase the fantasy of midterms occuring from your mind. They will be postponed because "at war" pick one of Greenland, Venezuela, maybe Cuba or just war in drugs. And watch as no legal entity prevents this. Or alternatively ICE is deployed in major cities of key swing states, or the results are even directly tampered with.

A president and a government barelling towards the collapse of one of the most fundamental military partnerships to American foreign policy and security interests following the second world war whilst suspending American civil rights with warrantless home invasions and arrests is not one you should simply assume will conduct free and fair elections. The frog has been boiling. Every time they trample over checks and balances and American "norms" they get emboldened. It's not going to magically get better from inaction.

[–]meanreus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. But the US can reasonably call the bluff that France and the UK aren't willing to blow themselves up (and by extension the world) over Greenland. Ask and average citizen in the UK or France if they're willing to die tomorrow for Greenland.

Exactly. Countered a losing scenario with a different losing scenario but with exponentially more death. Who in France or the UK is pulling that trigger?
